More Police officers to be deployed to support Meewa’s, “Operation Clear Path” – Government

HOME Affairs and Internal Security Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dickson Matembo has warned that citizens who attempt to disrupt Lusaka Mayor-elect Mwewa Chitambala’s efforts to eliminate street vending will be dealt with by the police.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Matembo says government has provided adequate security to ensure that the mayor-elect successfully implements his vision of restoring cleanliness and order in the city.

He says although the police and the Lusaka City Council have a joint operation dubbed “Operation Clear Path” to remove street vendors from unauthorized trading areas, additional police officers will be deployed to support the mayor-elect and prevent any attempts to undermine the initiative.

Matembo has called on citizens and political players to support the mayor-elect’s developmental agenda, stating that efforts to improve urban sanitation and order should be encouraged.

He has further urged stakeholders to embrace progressive initiatives and abandon practices that promote disorder and exploitation of vulnerable people.

The Lusaka City Council, in collaboration with the Zambia Police, will today commence the joint operation to remove street vendors from unauthorized areas and facilitate their relocation to designated markets across the city.
