The mother of the Zimbabwean woman from the Zion Christian church who died a few days after her lobola ceremony due to alleged food poisoning has also passed away.
A woman by the name of Renia Gwarumba has been trending since she died on the 3rd of January 2025 after she got traditionally married on the 22nd of December.
Reports have it that she was served poisoned food on the day of her lobola ceremony, which she ingested, and it ended up killing her. Her burial was held on the 5th of January, and family and friends attended it.

Upon learning about the death of her daughter, Renia’s mother is said not to have handled the news well. She also then passed on on the same day her daughter was buried.
The Gwarumba family was left devasted and mourning the loss of the once bubbly mother and child. Some reports are saying that Renia’s mother may have also ingested the poisoned food, but no official statement has been made in that regard.
The mother leaves behind a son named Eric and a mourning husband who is also claimed to be experiencing a psychotic breakdown due to the overwhelming of the two losses in a short period.

Many Zimbabweans have been shocked by the news of losing the young woman’s life this way. Some are warning people against having many family members and friends around for special occasions like these. Others are calling for traditional healers to help the family by doing ‘back to sender rituals’, which will have the perpetrator die or lose their mind, leading to a confession.
