In a development that has left residents laughing louder than a campaign rally loudspeaker, aspiring politician Mubita C Nawa has performed what many are calling the fastest political U-turn of the season—gracefully exiting the battlefield of Mongu Central Constituency and reappearing in the freshly minted Mongu East.
Mongu Central, now unofficially renamed “No Place for the Faint-Hearted,” has attracted more than nine ambitious contenders. At the center of it all stands Kennedy Makai Makai, widely viewed as the man currently holding the political steering wheel while others are still looking for the ignition key.
Sources (and amused residents) suggest that after surveying the Mongu Central political terrain—and possibly spotting Mr. Makai Makai comfortably ahead—Mr. Nawa made what can only be described as a “strategic retreat with excellent timing.”
Observers say the shift to Mongu East, a constituency largely covering rural parts of the district, is either a brilliant redistribution of political energy… or simply choosing a football match where the goalkeeper is still being recruited.
Adding spice to the story is Mr. Nawa’s recent burst of “community enthusiasm.” After spending much of his time in Lusaka, he has suddenly become a familiar face in Mongu—seen sweeping, posing for photos, and engaging with locals in what critics jokingly call a “full-service campaign package.”
Long-time acquaintances, however, are still adjusting to this new version. Some recall a time when speaking Silozi was not exactly his preferred hobby. Today, they say, the transformation is so complete it deserves its own documentary: “From Lusaka to Mongu: The Sudden Awakening.”
Meanwhile, back in Mongu Central, the race continues without interruption—and without Mr. Nawa. Kennedy Makai Makai is reportedly maintaining strong grassroots momentum, leaving the remaining contenders to battle it out in what is shaping up to be a political survival contest.
As for Mongu East, it now hosts a candidate arriving with fresh determination, new energy, and perhaps a slightly lighter level of competition.
Whether this move will go down as a masterstroke of political intelligence or the most polite form of surrender in recent memory is a question voters will answer in 2026.
Until then, one thing is clear: in Western Province politics, even the exits are entertaining.
