MUNDUBILE SPLASHES MILLIONS ON ELECTION COURT BATTLE

Defeated presidential candidate Brian Mundubile is pressing ahead with a legal challenge to President Hakainde Hichilema’s re-election. He has reportedly engaged lawyers Chifumu Banda and Bonaventure Mutale who have been paid in the region of US$750,000 each to lead the challenge.

The figures are already stirring debate over the resources being poured into contesting the result when many voices across the political divide have called on the nation to move forward.

Mr Mundubile, who stood on the NRPUP ticket, rejected the results just hours after voting closed. His early dismissal of the outcome came well before the Electoral Commission of Zambia had completed its national count, which ultimately returned President Hichilema as the winner.

State House has said Mr Mundubile is free to petition through the courts. Yet his stance has left him increasingly isolated, with alliance partners such as the Resolute Party and NRPUP President Ezra Tembo conceding defeat, and Tonse Secretary General Zumani Zimba urging dialogue and reconciliation over a divisive court battle.- Open Zambia

  1. Hahaha I believe they have agreed with bene Chifumu Banda to siphon that MONEY from FUNDERS.

MOREOVER Dr Zumani Zimba knows what happened in 2016 where ECL played mingalato where HH & GBM’s PETITION was NOT Heard.

Bene HH will play the same .
God is so good, those guys (PF) thought they were WISE but it will work for HH’s good.

  2. That money should have been used to form and enhance structures in North west, Western and Southern provinces where they performed badly if they had a vision. A petition will not work. Mundubile and Makebi should take a vacation to reflect on the outcome of the just ended elections, they have got a very large support base. I really don’t how long they intend to remain in their hiding place and what that means to their followers.

  3. The current toxic political environment has its genesis in the 2016 presidential election petition by HH, which the Constitutional Court in its strange wisdom, refused to hear on the technicality that the petition had lapsed. Famously, 14 days is 14 days.

Consequently, HH refused to recognise Mr. Lungu as President. Hence was set in motion the cat and mouse relationship between the two which reached a climax with the drama over the burial of the late former President, Mr. Lungu.

Fast forward to 2026 and we have come full circle. This time, the shoe is on the other foot. Another presidential petition is in the offing. My hope is that this petition by Mr. Mundubile will not be sabotaged. It offers an opportunity to clear any lingering doubts on the integrity of the last elections and put the matter to rest conclusively. It will also help us improve our electoral system.

Failure to hear the petition for whatever reason, will only make our politics more toxic and dangerous for our country. And the next elections in 2031 might be explosive.

Let Mr. Mundubile’s petition be heard.

The writer is not speaking from a matter of fact. This is another article written to fuel speculation. If Mundubile are petitioning. Let them file their arguements in court. Not here.
They cried for time to campaign. They campaigned. Zambians voted.
Why are they using “their” views to question the response from Zambians? Let them file their petition that they found wise in their minds.
