MUKANDILA DENIES FOREIGN NATIONALITY ALLEGATIONS, SEEKS HABEAS CORPUS
TONSE Alliance Secretary General Celistine Mukandila has denied allegations that he is a foreign national and fraudulently obtained a National Registration Card (NRC).
Mr Mukandila, who was arrested on immigration-related charges, has remained in custody since August 20, 2026.
He has since applied for a writ of habeas corpus, challenging what he alleges is his continued illegal and unconstitutional detention.
Mr Mukandila contends that his continued detention is unjustified, particularly because the charge against him is bailable.
In his application, Mr Mukandila says he fears for his life due to the conditions under which he is being held. He has submitted that the police continue to detain him in adverse conditions, making him feel as though he has already been condemned and sentenced.
Mr Mukandila is asking the court to intervene and determine the legality of his continued detention.
