MUNDUBILE, MAKEBI ZULU MAY NEVER SEE FREEDOM AGAIN

The fate of two Zambian leaders, Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu, appears to have been sealed. The gravity of the charges slapped against them could mean the end of their political careers, and they could spend the rest of their lives in prison if found guilty.

A person convicted of treason in Zambia faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, sedition or seditious practices under the Penal Code carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a fine, or both.

  1. Of course they will see freedom even if they are found guilty. They can be pardon by the current President or one of the future Presidents.

They will not be the first ones to be imprisoned for treason. There were others like Mr. Lungu (alias Captain Solo) and Mr. Luchembe who were sentenced under Mr. FTJ Chiluba and Dr. Kaunda respectively. Both were pardoned.

Anyway, they have not been tried and they have not been found guilty yet. So it is premature to start speculating about them spending the rest of their lives in prison.
