POLLING BRIEF | Mundubile Urges Voters to Return to Polling Stations After Voting
Opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has urged voters to return to their polling stations after voting closes at 18:00 and remain vigilant as counting begins.
“I’m calling upon all of you fellow Zambians that have voted along with me today to go back to your polling station and stay there and protect your vote after the stations close at 18hrs,” Mundubile said after casting his ballot in Lusaka.
Mundubile also raised concern over reported delays at some polling stations in Northern Province, claiming some did not open until 13:00 instead of the scheduled 06:00.
“ECZ must explain this,” he said. The extent of the reported delays and any arrangements for affected polling stations will require confirmation from the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
The opposition leader framed the election around both economic conditions and civil liberties, saying: “Remember this is a vote against cyber laws; it’s a vote for free expression and association, including poverty reduction.”
With less than two hours remaining before the scheduled close of polls, attention is beginning to shift from voting to the next sensitive phase: closing, ballot reconciliation, counting and results management.
Mundubile’s appeal signals the opposition’s focus on monitoring that process as Zambia waits for its first polling-station results.
