Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has declared that the 2026 general election will mark his final bid for the presidency, bringing an end to a political career that has spanned nearly four decades.
The 80-year-old leader, who has ruled Uganda since 1986 ( almost 40 years), said he would not seek office beyond 2026 and urged Ugandans to turn out in large numbers to support him for the very last time.

Mzee, it is time to hung up your gloves. Let Ugandans elect their leader in a transparent and participatory environment. You have played your part. You will be remembered as patriot and a pan-Africanist which we all cherish.
