Mwaliteta warns civil servants who opposed Hichilema

UPND Kafue West Member of Parliament Obvious Mwaliteta has warned civil servants who openly opposed President Hakainde Hichilema during the August 13 general election that they could face difficult times if they continue frustrating government programmes.

Lusaka, 14 September – Mwaliteta said public officers who were opposed to President Hichilema’s administration should not remain in government while allegedly working against its efforts.

He said his team had started compiling the names of civil servants who celebrated after opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile claimed victory in the 2026 general election.

Mwaliteta was speaking about what he described as the political conduct of some public officers, particularly in Kafue, following Mundubile’s early claim that he had won the presidential election.

“We can’t have civil servants who are going to frustrate the efforts of government. Today I want to tell you, these five years will be difficult for you,” he said.

Mwaliteta argued that civil servants could not simultaneously work for a government while being openly opposed to the President heading that administration.

“There is no way you can work for Hakainde’s government when you don’t want Hakainde himself. There’s no way you’re going to be a police officer in Kafue when you are against the government. You can’t serve two masters, you can only serve one master at a go,” he said.

He said the celebrations following Mundubile’s claim of victory had, in his view, revealed the political loyalties of some civil servants.

Mwaliteta maintained that government would not tolerate public officers who were politically opposed to the administration and subsequently used their positions to frustrate government programmes or operations.
