“My nickname is, Umuntu Mutwe,” MP sends petition courtroom into wild laughter
THERE was comic relief in a fully packed courtroom on Wednesday when Chifubu Independent Member of Parliament, Kondwani Winga, whose seat has been petitioned told the Ndola High Court that his nickname is “Umuntu Mutwe”
TV Yatu’s #Sanfrossa Mberi reports that, Winga who is the First Respondent in the matter his rival, UPND’s Lloyd Lubosha has petitioned the court seeking nullification of his seat over alleged unfair electoral practices, lightened the tense mood during cross-examination.
The court had endured a tense day of serious video evidence and audio evidence, when the moment came.
Winga divulged his nickname when he was asked what his popular nickname was. Without hesitation, the MP told the court that his nickname is “Umuntu Mutwe”.
The explanation immediately triggered laughter across the courtroom.
The judge who jotted down submissions, momentarily posed to smirk as everyone else laughed out loud, bringing rare relief after hours of tense testimonies.
Winga, who was trying to explain the meaning behind the name, maintained that the nickname should not be taken lightly.
The petition, filed by his rival awaits judgement slated for November 27, 2026.
Winga, polled a total of 15, 552 votes, while Lubosha polled 8, 322 Votes.
