NALUMANGO TEASING ZAMBIANS OVER ROLLER MEAL REMARK ALA BWESHENIFYE UBUNGA – MUNDUBILE

Lusaka, Saturday (February 4, 2023)

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile is disturbed by Republican Vice President Mutale Nalumango’s proposal for Zambians to eat Roller meal if they cannot afford Breakfast.

Featuring on Radio Phoenix yesterday, Ms Nalumango insisted that Roller was the best option stating that other Opposition leaders eat Roller meal.

Reacting to the Vice President, Mr. Mundubile who is also PF Presidential Candidate said the country needed practical solutions towards reducing the cost of mealie meal as opposed to Ms Nalumango’s proposal which was seemingly teasing Zambians.

Mr. Mundubile said the PF had practical solutions as it organized milling plants in order to reduce the cost of mealie meal.

“If I may take you back, during the PF when Government promised to reduce the cost of mealie meal they went ahead and acquired 2000 solar powered milling plants and a number of industrial milling plants constructed in Provinces such as Southern and Muchinga,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said the cost of Green Eagles mealie meal is lower in Southern Province because of the industrial milling plant built by the PF administration run by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) in Monze.

“This was a practical solution and we have seen the milling plants working in most parts of the country. If you go to Southern Province in districts such as Monze, Choma, Sinanzongwe among others, the price of mealie meal (Green Eagles by ZNS) may not be the same as obtaining in other parts of the country.

Mr. Mundubile said Government recently commissioned another plant in Mongu District in Western Province where it was expected that the price of mealie meal in that area would be low.

“What is expected is against the promise that they made of reducing the cost of mealie meal, we should hear practical solutions. What I have highlighted are solutions that were brought about by the PF,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile wondered why the UPND promised to reduce the cost of mealie meal without a plan on practical solutions.

“The questions that begs is that in the case of the UPND, when they were promising cheaper mealie meal, what exactly did they have in mind? It is therefore, unfortunate that her honor the Vice President is making proposals that are seemingly meant to tease the Zambian people,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile called on Government to take the issue of high cost of mealie-meal seriously and find lasting solutions to ensuring that prices were reduced.
