OPPOSITION APC DOESN’T WANT EXAMS AT GRADE 7 LEVEL

All People’s Congress Party President, Nason Msoni, has called for scrapping of Grade 7 examinations to allow every child an opportunity to complete their education.

Msoni has since called on government to maintain a policy which was introduced by the Patriotic Front that allowed all Grade 7 pupils to proceed to the next stage without focusing on cut-off-points.

He argues that a good education policy should not filter out young children prematurely into the streets without providing them with any alternative career prospect.

Msoni notes that the current social-economic system does not provide employment opportunities for school drop outs as it was in the past where they could be incorporated in the Civil Service, hence the need to allow children to complete their education.

He proposes that those with difficulties in progressing through a particular grade must be given a chance to repeat as opposed to declaring them untrainable through cut-off-points.

During the announcement of Grade 7 and 9 results in December, 2022, Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima stated that government is discontinuing automatic progression to Grade 8 from 2023 going forward.
