BREAKING: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he is backing Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup, but insists his support has nothing to do with football icon Lionel Messi.
Speaking during a media exchange, Netanyahu was asked why he believed Argentina would lift the trophy.
“I support Argentina to win the World Cup. Do you know why?” Netanyahu said.
When a reporter replied, “Is it because of Messi?” the Israeli leader answered:
“No, not because of Messi. It’s because of Javier Milei. He is a global star and Israel’s greatest friend.”
Netanyahu’s remarks highlighted his admiration for Argentine President Javier Milei, whose government has significantly strengthened diplomatic ties with Israel since taking office.
Milei has repeatedly voiced strong support for Israel on the international stage, making him one of the country’s closest allies in Latin America.
