Netanyahu Says Israel Warned UK of Iran-Backed Attack Before RAF Fairford Plot Was Foiled
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Fox News that Israel had warned the United Kingdom about the possibility of an Iran-backed attack on British soil, shortly before authorities reportedly foiled a planned attack targeting RAF Fairford, a military airbase in Gloucestershire, west of London.
The RAF base has been used by U.S. military aircraft involved in operations against Iran.
Netanyahu said Israel had provided the British government with a warning about the potential threat, but claimed that instead of responding to the warning, the UK imposed sanctions on Israeli entities.
He described the British response as surprising and criticized the UK government during the interview.
Netanyahu also sharply attacked Britain’s governing Labour Party, which has increased pressure on his government over Israel’s policies toward the Palestinians, including settlement expansion and decisions affecting the displacement of Palestinians.
