Nevers Mumba Resigns From his Party and Retires from Active Politics After Being Reminded that he was Breaking the Law
On Monday I cautioned the former Vice President, Dr. Nevers Mumba, that he was breaking the Constitution and the provisions of Former Presidents Benefits Act of 1993 (as amended in 2026) by receiving pensions and benefits while holding the partisan position of President in New Nation Party, he mocked me.
Mumba’s side-kick and desperate praise singer George N Mtonga even reproduced his mocking comment.
I reminded Dr. Mumba that this was the reason Zambia’s Sixth President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu voluntarily lost the benefits when he returned to active politics on 28th October 2023.
I guess Dr. Mumba knew the matter I touched was serious. So besides consulting Secretary to Cabinet and his lawyers, he came to the inescable conclusion that he was truly breaking the law.
To retain and enjoy these benefits, he put up a show today and resigned from his position and retired from active politics.
Ma benefits, ignore the pageantry and drama..Ma benefits!
