New details emerge on North Korea’s Kang Kon-class destroyer

Newly released information suggests North Korea’s Kang Kon-class destroyer represents a significant leap in the country’s naval capabilities.

According to the latest assessments, the warship is equipped with 74 vertical launch system (VLS) cells, providing the capacity to carry a wide range of missile types. The vessel is also reportedly fitted with four AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar panels, greatly enhancing its target detection, tracking, and air-defense capabilities.

If confirmed, these features would make the Kang Kon-class one of the most technologically advanced surface combatants ever fielded by the North Korean Navy, marking a major step forward in Pyongyang’s naval modernization efforts.
