NGOCC DEEPLY CONCERNED BY THE CRITICAL HEALTH CONDITION OF HON. FAITH MUNTHALI
PRESS STATEMENT
For Immediate release
15th September 2026
We have learnt with deep concern of reports that Mafinga South Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Faith Munthali, is critically ill and currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of a health facility, in Isoka. Her current health condition is a matter of grave concern not only to her family and constituents but also to the broader women’s movement and all citizens who value justice, human dignity and the protection of fundamental rights.
We wish to remind all relevant authorities that every citizen is entitled to the highest attainable standard of healthcare and humane treatment, regardless of their political affiliation, status, or legal circumstances. Human rights principles and constitutional values require that every person in custody or under state responsibility be treated with dignity and respect.
Therefore, we demand that Hon. Faith Munthali be accorded the dignity befitting her humanity and the courtesy due to a civic leader of her stature. We further emphasize that she remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law and should not be subjected to any treatment that undermines this fundamental principle of justice.
In light of the seriousness of her condition, we call upon the Government to urgently facilitate her medical evacuation to Lusaka, where she can access specialized medical care and better-equipped health facilities.
At this critical moment, the preservation of life must take precedence over all other considerations. We urge the authorities to act swiftly, compassionately and responsibly to safeguard Hon. Munthali’s health and wellbeing.
NGOCC stands in solidarity with Hon. Faith Munthali, her family, and the people of Mafinga South during this difficult time and accordingly, wish her a quick recovery.

When NGOCC says; “we have learnt with deep concern of reports that Mafinga South Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Faith Munthali, is critically ill and currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of a health facility, in Isoka.” Where did they get this report? It seems they are not sure of what they are talking about. Reports should always be verified before they are put into public domain. While we appreciate their concern, verification of reports is also very important. Ministry of Health is well organized structure, and is very accurate when it comes to giving information on patients. NGOCC can easily contact the PS Technical Services at MoH Hq who also have Directors under him and can quickly contact the PMO, Muchinga Province who also can contact the District Director of Health who also can contact the Medial Sup Medical Officer in charge at Isoka District Hospital. The Medical Sup can either go there in person or he can direct the Hospital Admin to quickly check from ICU to confirm if the Hon MP is admitted there or not. Then the report can start coming back up to MoH Hq and this time as a verified report. So just hearing rumors or unverified reports does not help. Moreover if the patient is in ICU and is adequately being attended to by Doctors, what can your concern do to help the situation? The answer is ; nothing. Such cases should be left to Doctors, they are the only mandated and competent people to handle them. Patients’ conditions are always being monitored, Doctors advise which patients can be moved/evacuated and which ones can not. Some conditions don’t allow the patients to be evacuated until they stabilize. If you evacuate an unstable patient, you may end up doing more harm than good because the patient can die before reaching the next destination. Can NGOCC through relevant authorities get a verified report instead of expressing concern on social media, something which can’t help us anything.
