NG’OMBE WARNS PRESIDENTIAL TERM CHANGES COULD AFFECT ZAMBIA’S DEMOCRACY

Citizens First Party Eastern Province Youth Chairperson Gilbert Ng’ombe has warned that any changes to the constitutional provisions governing the presidential term of office could have implications for Zambia’s democracy and constitutional governance.
Mr. Ng’ombe says constitutional amendments affecting the tenure of the presidency should be approached with caution and subjected to broad public debate, as changes to the rules governing presidential elections could affect democratic accountability and the country’s political system.
He has urged Zambians to remain vigilant and ensure that any proposed constitutional changes are made through the prescribed legal processes and reflect the interests of the country rather than those of individual political leaders or political parties.
