BREAKING: Niger Army Regains Control in Niamey with Russian Support
Niger’s loyalist forces reportedly regained control of the situation in Niamey on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with direct support from Russia.
According to reports, mutinous soldiers had taken refuge inside Base 101, prompting Niger’s military command to officially request assistance from Russia’s Africa Corps, under the Russian Ministry of Defence, to launch an assault.
The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) praised the courage of Niger’s republican forces, describing the mutiny as an act of betrayal.
