NIGERIA’S PRESIDENT ORDERS AN 80% SALARY INCREASE FOR JUNIOR SOLDIERS

Nigerian soldiers will receive a major salary boost after President Bola Tinubu approved a second pay increase in just one month, describing it as a show of the government’s “deep appreciation” for troops tackling the country’s security challenges.

In July, the monthly salary for the lowest-ranking soldiers was increased from $36 (about K686.85) to $73 (about K1,392.78). From September, that figure will rise again to $132 (about K2,518.45) — an increase of up to 80% under the latest adjustment.
