NJOBVU DEMANDS FOR INVESTIGATION INTO NRC SCAM
Democratic Union president Ackim Antony Njobvu has demanded for an immediate investigation into a scam where people in Misengo area of Northern province are being issued with defective National Registration Cards (NRCs).
The residents in Misengo have expressed concern with NRCs being issued with some them being hand written.
The quality of the national identity cards has given some people especially farmers difficulties to conduct their business.
Chief Misengo has also expressed concern over matter.
In reacting to the same, president Njobvu said the revelations calls for an immediate investigation to ensure that there is transparency in view of the 2026 elections.
The outspoken political leader has further demanded that a correction of defective NRCs be done in a transparent manner.
“I would like to warn the UPND government to desist from the criminality being perpetuated in some parts of the country, as evidenced in Northern Province where defective NRCs are being issued to citizens,” he cautioned.
Njobvu said the deliberate issuance of flawed documents risks disenfranchising thousands of eligible voters ahead of the elections.
The opposition leader further said the development is not just an administrative error, but claimed it is a calculated move to suppress votes in opposition strongholds.
“For me this is a serious concern and one that speaks directly to the integrity of Zambia’s democratic process.
If National Registration Cards (NRCs) are defective or contain inaccurate information, it could indeed hinder citizens from registering to vote or casting their ballots in 2026,” he said.
“And if this disproportionately affects regions with strong opposition support, it raises troubling questions about fairness and representation,” he added.
