“NO BAIL FOR DRUG THIEVES” – PROF. ROMA CHILENGI
Newly appointed Minister of Health Professor Roma Chilengi has issued a stern warning against the theft and diversion of medicines from public health facilities, saying those caught will face serious consequences.
Speaking in an interview with ZNBC, Professor Chilengi says the directive from President Hakainde Hichilema is clear, there must be no more stealing of drugs intended for public health facilities and patients.
He says anyone caught stealing medicines will have no bail, stressing that the offence is equivalent to an economic crime.
Professor Chilengi has further pledged a hands-on approach to his new role, saying the new team will roll up its sleeves and get to work to push the health sector agenda forward.
He says the focus will be on translating the President’s directives into action, strengthening accountability and ensuring medicines and other public health resources reach the Zambians they are intended to serve.
