…Chris Zimba fires back at Mundubile prison suspension

OUSTED Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance secretary general Chris Zimba has broken his silence, calmly dismissing his disciplinary suspension by incarcerated leader Brian Mundubile.
“There is no need to worry or hurry,” Dr Zimba stated following the announcement of his immediate removal.
He choose to downplay the urgency of the disciplinary measures being instituted against him while his political rivals celebrated the ouster.
The pushback follows a formal letter dated September 7, 2026, signed by Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance president Brian Mundubile from behind bars.
In the letter, Mr Mundubile invoked Article 13(6) of the alliance constitution, accusing Dr Zimba of issuing unauthorised Press and social media statements that dragged the organisation’s standing into bad repute.
The fallout exposes a bitter ideological rift within Zambia’s opposition coalition.
While Dr Zimba maintained that his calls for Mr Mundubile to publicly recognise President Hakainde Hichilema were essential to unlocking stuck reconciliation talks, the alliance’s top brass had labeled him a rogue actor operating in his personal capacity.
Meanwhile, fissures within the wider alliance were already beginning to surface.
Christian Democratic Party (CDP) president and Tonse-Psmodzi Alliance vice chairperson Daniel Pule quickly issued a separate statement urging members to maintain unity.
Professor Pule argued that no member should be removed or suspended until the alliance’s top leadership structure was fully settled, directly challenging the validity of the suspension executed from Mukobeko Maximum Prison.
As Dr Zimba takes a relaxed, wait-and-see approach, the alliance finds itself navigating dual crises: fighting serious treason charges in court while wrestling for control over its own leadership and political messaging.
