‘NO ONE CAN PREDICT THE PEOPLE’S VOTE’ – CHISENGA CHALLENGE HH’S NINE-PROVINCE CLAIM
Governance expert Gilbert Chisenga and Green Party President Peter Sinkamba have challenged President Hakainde Hichilema’s assertion that nine out of Zambia’s ten provinces have already decided to vote for him ahead of the August 13 General Election.
Mr. Chisenga described the President’s remarks as inappropriate for a sitting Head of State, arguing that no individual can accurately predict the outcome of an election before Zambians cast their ballots.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Chisenga said the will of the people can only be established on polling day, stressing that the true verdict will only be known after votes have been counted.
He further warned that convincing oneself that victory is already guaranteed could prove politically costly if the electorate ultimately makes a different decision.
Meanwhile, Green Party President Peter Sinkamba questioned why the President continues to campaign across the country if, as claimed, nine provinces have already resolved to support him.
Mr. Sinkamba argued that if such overwhelming support had indeed been secured, there would be little reason to repeatedly campaign in those same provinces.
The remarks by the governance expert and opposition leader come after President Hichilema stated during a campaign engagement that nine of Zambia’s ten provinces had already decided to vote for him, a statement that has since sparked political debate as parties make their final push ahead of the August 13 polls.
