Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has pledged to protect Zambians’ constitutional rights, saying citizens will be free to criticise his government without fear of punishment if he is elected President.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Luapula Province, Mr. Mundubile said his administration would restore what he described as citizens’ freedoms and ensure that constitutional rights are respected.

“We will give you back your rights. You will be able to criticise us as you should because those rights are guaranteed by the Republican Constitution,” he told supporters.

Mr. Mundubile said his government would welcome public criticism if it failed to deliver on its promises.

“We pledge today that if we fail you after the elections, you have the right to criticise us and you will not be punished. It’s your right. How else will we know that we are not delivering to you?” he said.

The opposition leader urged voters to support the Mundubile–Makebi Zulu ticket in the 13 August General Election, saying his administration would uphold constitutional freedoms and strengthen democratic governance.
