NO ROOM FOR NON-PERFORMERS IN SECOND-TERM CABINET – HH
VICE PRESIDENT W.K. Mutale-Nalumango says President Hakainde Hichilema has warned newly sworn-in Cabinet Ministers that there will be no tolerance for failure to deliver during his second term.
Dr. Mutale-Nalumango said this after joining President Hichilema at State House during the swearing-in ceremony of four Cabinet Ministers.
Those sworn into office were Professor Roma Chilengi as Minister of Health, Dr. Gilbert Siame as Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mulambo Haimbe, SC, as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane as Minister of Finance and National Planning.
The Vice President said the President had made it clear that the second term would focus on transforming the lives of Zambians through effective delivery.
“The second term is about getting on with the work of transforming the lives of our people,” Dr. Mutale-Nalumango said.
She said President Hichilema had cautioned Ministers against treating public office as a platform for personal comfort or political manoeuvring.
“The President emphasised that he does not want people who ‘play’ in his Cabinet,” she said.
Dr. Mutale-Nalumango added that the President had warned that Ministers who failed to meet required standards would face consequences.
“As the President put it, some of the former Ministers who did not meet the required standards are ‘gone forever,’” she said.
She urged the newly appointed Ministers to serve with humility, diligence and commitment while ensuring that the Grow Zambia Agenda delivers tangible benefits to ordinary citizens.
“The people of Zambia have entrusted us with the responsibility to serve, and we must honour that trust through hard work, integrity, accountability and measurable results,” Dr. Mutale-Nalumango said.
