Yesterday I got calls and news on social media about a lady that allegedly gave birth in the corridors of solwezi general hospital amd went there first thing in the morning with Doctor Msiska who is the provincial health director.
The facts on the ground are that indeed this did happen and I took time to meet a young lady who is 17 years old and this was her first pregnancy and had challenges to understand the signs of labor and transport to get her to the hospital in time. However this does not justify the fact that she was not attended to in time by the medical staff.
I would like to assure the public that as provincial administration we are handling this issue very seriously and have made some recommendations to change the entry points to the maternity ward more and easily accessible.
So that the maternity ward has its own access route.
I engaged managed on how we can objectively work together to help change the bad perception that solwezi general hospital has to the public.
Beatrice the young lady is 17 years old and a school drop out,we will follow this up as an administration to ensure that after some months,she is put back in school as she showed interest to finish school and support her.
