ONLY GOD DETERMINES THE MYSTERY OF D£ATH – HH
BWEENGWA – President Hakainde Hichilema has said that only God determines the mystery of death, urging mourners to accept the passing of his uncle, Maxwell Hichilema.
The President was speaking yesterday in Mooya village in Bweengwa, where he led thousands of mourners gathered to pay their last respects.
He told family members and the community that they should come to terms with the d£ath of Mr Hichilema, who di£d at the age of 67 in a road traffic accid£nt on Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Monze–Niko Road.
President Hichilema said it was unfortunate that his uncle di£d suddenly without illness, noting that road accidents were more commonly associated with urban areas than rural settings.
He described the late Mr Hichilema, fondly known as Mukanmwando, as a hardworking man who owned hundreds of cattle, adding that his d£ath in such circumstances was deeply painful.
The Head of State said that despite the tragedy, it was important to recognise that God is the giver of life and the only one who determines when it ends.
He stated that human beings do not know how or when life will be taken, emphasising that only God decides the mystery of death.
President Hichilema further urged mourners to accept the d£ath as part of God’s will, warning that questioning death was tantamount to challenging God.
He also cautioned motorists against speeding on the Monze–Niko Road, stressing that the road was meant to improve travel and not to cause loss of life.
He added that he had directed that speed humps be installed on the road to enhance safety.
The President expressed gratitude to the community and all those who attended the funeral, calling for peaceful and orderly mourning.
Meanwhile, Chief Hamusonde of Bweengwa described the d£ath of Mr Hichilema as devastating to the community.
