🇿🇲 DEVELOPING | Opposition Networks Continue to Confirm Jay Banda’s Capture

More figures within Zambia’s opposition diaspora networks are reporting the capture of fugitive former Petauke Central MP Emmanuel Jay Banda, although police have yet to issue an official statement.

U.S-based opposition mouthpiece, Emmanuel Mwamba, was among the first to circulate claims that Banda had been captured in Mozambique.

UK-based opposition socialite Lillian Mutambo has also confirmed the development, while similar accounts have spread across opposition-linked Telegram and WhatsApp groups.

The latest claim comes from fugitive former Nkana MP Binwell Mpundu, who served as Presidential Affairs Chairman in Brian Mundubile’s Tonse Alliance campaign.

“MIRACLE WAS ABDUCTED LAST EVENING, THEY HAVE JUST ARRIVED AT MAINA SOKO HOSPITAL,” Mpundu wrote on Thursday, referring to Banda by his social media nickname.

Maina Soko is a military hospital in Lusaka; and Banda’s reported presence at the facility remains unconfirmed.

The accounts are emerging from a closely connected opposition communication network, whose broadcasts and political messaging have frequently attracted controversy.

Critics have described parts of this network as an opposition propaganda operation, although its members present themselves as political commentators and government watchdogs.

Mwamba, Mutambo, Mpundu and Banda were among six individuals whose passports were revoked by the Zambian government in September on national security grounds.

Information previously gathered by our team between October 3 and October 12 suggested Banda had been moving between opposition contacts in Nairobi, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe before the latest reports placed him in Mozambique.

Despite the growing number of claims, much of the information continues to circulate within the same political networks, making independent confirmation particularly important.

The circumstances of Banda’s reported capture, the identity of those involved and his present whereabouts remain unclear.
