OUR MARRIAGE HAS FAILED, ZED FARMER’S HUBBY ADMITS.
Mwelwa has admitted that his marriage to Maria Zaloumis, alias, Zed Farmer, has irretrievably broken down.
This is a matter in which Zaloumis has sued for divorce in the Lusaka High Court, asking it to dissolve their two-year-old marriage stating that Mwelwa physically, verbally and emotionally abused her.
The petitioner claimed that Mwelwa threatened to kill her and also accused her of infidelity.
The couple lawfully married on September 1, 2019 at Lusaka Civic Centre and have one child between them. However, Mwelwa has four other children from his previous relationships while Zaloumis has one child from her past affair.
Mwelwa in his answer agreed to his wife’s claims that the marriage was non-existence.
“The marriage has irretrievably broken down. That the respondent joins issue with the petitioner. That the respondent does not intend to defend the petition herein,” he submitted.
Zaloumis in her petition stated that arguments between them started even before they tied the knot.
She added that even their family members advised them that they were not ready for marriage but ignored the advice.
Zaloumis stated that Mwelwa was not comfortable with the nurture of her work which resulted in physical confrontations.
“The said behaviour continued throughout the marriage such that in April 2020, the petitioner left the house for a month following the respondent’s threats to kill her,”
“The parties have failed to communicate effectively such that even after the petitioner left the house, discussions to do with the wellbeing of the child of the family have proved futile and resulted in the petitioner maintaining the child of the family alone,” she said.
