Overnight Escalation: U.S. Strikes Iran as Tehran Launches Ballistic Missiles and Drones at Regional Bases
U.S. forces launched a series of overnight attacks against Iranian military positions around the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.
Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers reportedly fired BGM-109 Tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles at targets on Qeshm Island, as well as locations in Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Sistan and Baluchestan.
Meanwhile, F/A-18F Super Hornet and F-35C fighter jets reportedly carried out multiple airstrikes in Hormozgan Province, targeting communications and internet towers, electricity-related infrastructure, missile capabilities and coastal radar systems used to monitor maritime traffic.
Iranian forces later responded with a wave of ballistic missile and one-way drone attacks targeting the Muwaffaq Al-Salti Air Base and military facilities in Aqaba, Jordan.
Iran reportedly used between 13 and 14 medium-range Kheibar Shekan ballistic missiles, along with Shahed-136 and Arash-2 drones.
Additional Iranian one-way drone attacks reportedly targeted military facilities in Bahrain, including Sheikh Isa Air Base near Manama.
Iranian forces also claimed to have shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over the airspace of Khomein.
The reports have not been independently verified, and official confirmation regarding the full scale of the strikes, damage and casualties remains limited.
The latest exchanges mark a significant escalation in the rapidly widening confrontation between the United States and Iran.
