US President Donald Trump has revealed a major breakthrough in the conflict in eastern DR Congo . According to Trump, the United States, DR Congo, and Rwanda have reached a deal that combines peace and economic cooperation.
-Permanent ceasefire agreed between DRC and Rwanda
-Non-state armed groups will be disarmed
-A programme will begin to return refugees to their home areas
-Those who committed atrocities in eastern DRC will face justice
-On the economic side, Trump says the United States will gain access to rare-earth minerals from DRC and Rwanda as part of this deal.
-He added that American companies will soon enter both countries to work in mining and other strategic sectors.
President Donald Trump’s administration has rebranded the U.S. Institute of Peace to include his own name — after seizing control of the agency and slashing its funding.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the State Department announced that the institute, a non-profit independent think tank, had been renamed the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in order “to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation’s history.”
Photos taken of the building show Donald Trump’s name placed prominently above the entrance.
“President Trump will be remembered by history as the President of Peace,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote in a post on X. “It’s time our State Department display that.”
The name change comes amid a protracted legal struggle to determine who controls the agency, which was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1985 to promote conflict resolution. While financed by Congress, the institute operates independently and owns its headquarters, according to CNN.
Kim Kardashian got emotional on the latest episode of The Kardashians as she revealed that her ex-husband, Kanye West, accused her of staging her terrifying 2016 Paris robbery.
The 45-year-old reality star opened up about how deeply the accusation hurt her. “Even my ex-husband had said, ‘And you faked your robbery for a TV show,’” Kim said, her voice cracking. “Just to think that someone who’s so close to you wouldn’t believe you… that should know how much that affected your life… it just really bothered me. You don’t know who I am.”
Kim said hearing it in front of others felt like “a knife to my heart” but added that finally being able to testify and face the robbers in court gave her a sense of closure. “I’m happy it’s over,” she added tearfully.
At the time of the robbery, Kanye was not by her side, performing in New York. However, he reportedly cut his show short after learning of the incident due to a “family emergency.”
The Hulu reality episode revisited the shocking ordeal, with archival footage showing the robbers holding Kim at gunpoint and tying her up. Kim reflected on how the trauma left a lasting impact. “In 2016, my life changed forever,” she admitted.
Kim returned to Paris nine years later with her mother, Kris Jenner, and childhood friend Simone Harouche, who had been in the apartment during the robbery but was never discovered by the intruders. “I just want to get this over with. I want to go in, do what I do, tell my story, and that’s it,” Kim said.
The episode detailed how five people were accused of carrying out the heist, while five others were charged as accessories. Kim explained that delays in the trial were due to evidence gathering, the coronavirus pandemic, and even the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Flashbacks showed Kim at her apartment alone with Simone after her sisters had gone out during Paris Fashion Week. She initially mistook the intruders for her sisters returning but quickly realized something was wrong when she heard the men entering, disguised in police uniforms.
Kim described the terrifying moments, asking repeatedly, “Are we gonna die?” as the robbers tied her hands and feet with zip ties and covered her eyes with duct tape. She feared they intended to rape or kill her. The robbers discovered her $4 million engagement ring and other valuables, confirming the incident was a robbery.
While Kim was incapacitated, Simone tried contacting Kourtney, who, like Kim, didn’t know the local emergency number. Kourtney then rushed to the apartment with Kendall and contacted their mother, Kris, who presumably alerted authorities.
Bill Gates is sounding an alarm the world cannot afford to ignore.
In the latest Goalkeepers report, “We Can’t Stop at Almost,” he warns that global progress in reducing child mortality is reversing for the first time this century.
He begins with a sobering reminder: “It doesn’t have to be like this.” Yet the data shows a deeply troubling shift. After decades of steady improvement, the number of children dying before their fifth birthday is now rising again.
Research from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation shows that 4.6 million children died before age five in 2024. That number is expected to rise by more than 200,000 this year, reaching an estimated 4.8 million.
Gates describes this as the equivalent of over 5,000 classrooms of children “gone before they ever learn to write their name or tie their shoes.” This surge comes at a time when global health funding is collapsing. Development assistance for health has fallen nearly 27% compared to last year, and major international aid programs have been dismantled or sharply reduced, worsening the crisis.
Gates calls this a “significant reversal in child deaths” and says it should be a wake-up call for anyone committed to scientific and humanitarian progress. The report warns that prolonged funding cuts could lead to devastating consequences.
If global health support drops by 20%, an additional 12 million children could die by 2045. If the cuts deepen to 30%, the number of additional child deaths could reach 16 million. Gates warns that the world risks becoming the generation that had the most advanced science in history but still failed to save the lives it could have protected.
Earlier this year, Gates pledged almost all his remaining wealth, about $100 billion, to help end some of the world’s deadliest diseases and continue reducing global child mortality. But he stresses that philanthropy alone is not enough.
Governments, especially those in wealthier nations, must step up. Many infectious diseases can return quickly if consistent funding and preventive measures are not maintained.
The message in the report is clear: if the world turns away now, it will be remembered as the generation that almost ended preventable child deaths, almost eradicated polio, almost wiped out malaria, almost made HIV history, but stopped too soon.
Despite the financial strain many countries face, Gates insists that powerful solutions already exist, along with promising new innovations. The challenge now is to “do more with less.”
Strengthening primary health care remains one of the most effective strategies, capable of preventing up to 90% of child deaths with early diagnosis and basic medical access. Routine immunization continues to be described as the best investment in global health, with every dollar generating massive economic and social returns.
Emerging tools from advanced malaria prevention technologies to new maternal vaccines for RSV and Group B strep could save millions of young lives in the coming years.
Zimbabwean woman identified as Zvikomborero Maria Makedenge (33) in now trending on social media after being caught on camera having good bedroom time on 16-Year-Old Boy.
The lady is barely seen in a video circulating on social media bending over giving the minor whole Jerusalem for him to enter freely. It is reported that the incident happened in August this year when the boy told his sister, who alerted their mother, leading to her arrest at Mbare police station in the country.
This made police to arrest the lady. The leaky leaky video has sparked an outrage on social media as people are blaming the lady for relieving herself with that young boy.
Some netzeins are cheering the boy saying he is a pro and he mastered all bedroom lessons. The boy is seen spanking the big Ny*sh of Makendenge like its nobody business.
South Africa to skip 2026 G20 after U.S. blocks participation
The government of South Africa has confirmed it will skip participation in next year’s G20 meetings after being formally excluded by United States authorities. Pretoria says it plans to “take a commercial break” during the U.S. presidency of the group.
The decision follows a harsh public statement by Marco Rubio on Wednesday, in which he reiterated that South Africa will not be invited to the U.S.–run G20 in 2026. Rubio criticised Pretoria’s policies, alleging that the government’s approach to land, regulatory and racial-equity issues had “crippled” the economy and undermined investment, while accusing South Africa of promoting “radical agendas” such as climate change activism, diversity and inclusion, and aid dependency.
Rubio went further, he accused South Africa’s ruling party of scapegoating citizens and foreign partners, tolerating violence against white farmers, and aligning with regimes the U.S. considers hostile. In a post on social media, he described the country’s G20 leadership as disregarding American inputs, blocking negotiations, even “doxxing” American officials.
Responding, Pretoria, through presidential spokesmen Vincent Magwenya said it would await a change in G20 presidency before returning. For now, they said, South Africa would “sit out” the 2026 G20 events and resume engagement when the presidency passes to another country (widely expected by 2027).
But analysts warn that South Africa’s absence during the U.S.-led G20 could erode its influence on global issues notably on matters affecting the Global South such as climate financing, debt relief and equitable development. At a time of growing global uncertainty, some fear this may weaken coordination among developing economies.
SAPS boosts security after threat targets judiciary at Meyiwa trial
Court proceedings in the high‑profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial were briefly halted on Tuesday after the South African Police Service (SAPS) intervened following intelligence that a group present in the courtroom intended to target judges, prosecutors and other key figures involved in the case.
Three men, who had been seated in the public gallery, were escorted out by police during proceedings as a precaution.
Investigators subsequently opened a case of conspiracy to commit murder, and seized electronic devices belonging to those removed for forensic analysis.
SAPS National Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the decision to increase security stemmed from what authorities described as “solid intelligence” suggesting individuals present were “looking for an opportunity to eliminate key role players on the side of the state”.
The court, presided over by Ratha Mokgoatlheng, adjourned the trial to allow defence and prosecution counsel to consult on the unfolding security developments.
The trial concerns the 2014 killing of Senzo Meyiwa, the former football star, and involves five accused men who face charges including murder, attempted murder, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.
With the conspiracy‑to‑murder investigation now under way, and security stepped up, the spotlight returns to the courtroom where the safety of judicial and state actors has become a critical concern.
Magaya Bodyguard Arrested Over Secret US$200 Payment To Witness The bodyguard and security aide to prominent preacher Prophet Walter Magaya has been arrested and taken into custody after he allegedly sent a secret US$200 payment to the mother of a woman involved in a rape case against the prophet. This arrest comes just weeks after police publicly warned that supporters of the PHD Ministries leader were actively raising a substantial war chest of US$200,000 to interfere with the justice system. The bodyguard, Tapiwa Felix Chikondo, is now accused of trying to obstruct the course of justice in the ongoing investigation.
Chikondo, a 35-year-old soldier, appeared in court on 2 December 2025. He was remanded in custody, with a bail ruling set for 5 December 2025. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA), the arrest followed police investigations into a rape complaint reported against the church leader.
This development follows an explosive official police press release issued on 15 November 2025, which asserted that a coordinated syndicate was working to derail the cases against Magaya by raising a US$200,000 (approx. R3.6 million) fund to bribe police, prosecutors, and judges.
Bodyguard Allegedly Interfered With Witness The NPA stated that during the investigation, Chikondo allegedly contacted the complainant’s mother in November 2025. He is accused of discouraging her from cooperating with law enforcement and of facilitating communication between her and the cleric.
Crucially, he allegedly sent US$200 (approx. R3,600) via EcoCash to the woman. The NPA bulletin detailed the alleged purpose of the payment, stating the money was purportedly for transport to Harare to “settle” the matter.
On 28 November 2025, the accused visited the complainant’s home to discuss the case, where he was cautioned that interfering with a police investigation is unlawful. The transaction was later traced through an EcoCash agent’s register recovered by police on 1 December 2025, which linked Chikondo to the payment. This alleged attempt to influence a witness emerges directly in the shadow of the police’s earlier claim of a massive, coordinated bribery scheme.
A Spokesperson For The State Issued A Stern Warning In a statement released with the bulletin, the prosecuting authority emphasised the seriousness of the allegations. It declared:
“No individual, regardless of social standing or affiliation, is permitted to obstruct police investigations. Attempts to influence witnesses or derail due process are serious offences, and the State will act decisively to protect the administration of justice.”
This statement echoes the stern tone of the police warning from mid-November, which detailed the alleged US$200,000 bribery fund.
Legal Troubles Mount For Magaya And His Aide This arrest is the latest in a series of legal challenges for both Magaya and his bodyguard. Chikondo was in court just weeks prior, on 6 November 2025, facing separate fraud charges for allegedly selling a smuggled Toyota Mark X to hip-hop star Ti Gonzi for US$5,000 (approx. R90,000). He was granted bail of US$600 (approx. R10,800) in that case.
Meanwhile, Prophet Magaya himself faces separate and ongoing rape allegations, in addition to fraud charges alongside his wife, Tendai. Appearing in court on 18 November 2025 for the fraud case, Magaya’s lawyer, Admire Rubaya, directly addressed the police’s bribery allegation, calling it part of “megaphone investigations.” Rubaya told the court:
“The police allegedly said there is a fund of US$200,000 but instead of arresting, they tend to post statements on social media. There is no need for megaphone investigations.”
The fraud case was postponed to 9 December 2025. The arrest of Magaya’s bodyguard for an alleged US$200 payment now adds a tangible, specific charge to the broader and explosive allegations of systemic interference made by the police just weeks ago.

Music legend 2baba has finally addressed the intense speculation surrounding his marriage and Hon Natasha Osawaru Idibia, and his message was nothing but urgent.
In a video circulating online, he expressed deep concern over how far things have escalated, warning that the situation has become dangerous.
According to him, fans are already pushing narratives that could put Natasha at risk.
He said he is perfectly fine and urged everyone to “calm down” and “cease fire,” adding that every family has issues but the public is taking this one too far.
2baba stressed that he didn’t make any alarming post, and pleaded repeatedly for people to stop spreading chaos.
He ended with a strong appeal to friends, fans and family: stop the rumours, stop the panic.
The Kremlin announced on Wednesday, December 3, that President Vladimir Putin accepted some US proposals aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and rejected others, emphasizing that Russia is ready to meet US negotiators as many times as necessary to reach an agreement.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement following the five-hour talks that stretched into the early morning between Putin and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law Jared Kushner, in Moscow. Though a Kremlin aide had initially noted that “compromises have not yet been found,” Peskov offered a more nuanced view.
When asked directly if Putin had rejected the US proposals, Peskov clarified that this was inaccurate.
“A direct exchange of views took place yesterday for the first time,” Peskov said. “Some things were accepted, some things were marked as unacceptable — this is a normal working process of finding a compromise.”
Peskov added that Russia is grateful to Trump for his efforts. He noted that the Kremlin would not provide a running commentary on the discussions with the United States, as excessive publicity was deemed unlikely to be constructive.
The focus now shifts to lower-level negotiations to pave the way for future high-level meetings.
“Work is currently being carried out at a working expert level,” Peskov stated. “It is at the expert level that certain results should be achieved that will then become the basis for contacts at the highest level.”
Earlier, Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, revealed that Moscow had previously received a 27-point set of proposals and then four additional documents, all of which were discussed with Witkoff.
The negotiations have been complicated by European and Ukrainian officials, who were alarmed by a leaked set of 28 initial US draft proposals in November, claiming they bowed to Moscow’s main demands. Subsequently, European powers came up with a counter-proposal, and the US and Ukraine agreed on an “updated and refined peace framework.”
Putin, however, recently criticized European powers, accusing them of trying to sink the peace talks by proposing ideas that were “absolutely unacceptable” to Russia.
The New Jersey GOP aide accused of staging a sick, politically motivated attack on herself has been ordered to undergo “residential treatment” at an inpatient mental health facility, court documents show.
Natalie Greene, a former law school student, was charged last month, Nov. 2025, for allegedly staging a fake assault on herself in which her assailants supposedly held her at gunpoint, carved up her skin and wrote “Trump Whore” on her stomach.
In actuality, Greene, 26, who worked as the aide for New Jersey Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew, hired a fetish artist to cut the skin on her face, neck, chest, shoulder and stomach, including having him scrawl “Van Drew is a racist” on her body as part of the bogus ambush at Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve on July 23, prosecutors alleged.
She was released on $200,000 bond with GPS tracking via an ankle bracelet on Nov. 19.
But Camden federal Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Pascal ordered Greene on Nov. 26 to report to pretrial services to have her ankle bracelet removed while she receives inpatient treatment.
Pascal wrote in her order that pretrial services recommended “that defendant submit to residential treatment” and Greene’s lawyer “consented” to it.
Prosecutors said Greene, an Ocean City resident and former Rutgers Law School student, went to Pennsylvania two days prior to the incident and paid a body modification artist $500 to cut the gruesome wounds into her skin with a scalpel.
Then on July 23, Greene had a friend make a 911 call, reporting they were attacked by three men, targeting Greene because of her job with Van Drew, the feds alleged.
When law enforcement found Greene she was laying on the ground in a wooded area off the trail with her hands and feet bound with zip-ties, her shirt pulled over her head and wounds all over her body, prosecutors said.
Greene claimed at least one of her assailants had a gun and threatened to shoot her.
One of the clues that helped cops see through Greene’s alleged ruse was the fact that zip-ties were found in her Maserati SUV. She and her accomplice allegedly gave conflicting accounts of the events, prosecutors said.
Greene is charged with conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes and making false statements to federal law enforcement.
She faces up to ten years behind bars and a $250,000 fine if convicted on both counts.
Legendary footballer, Lionel Messi, has once again raised doubts about his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a new interview with ESPN on the eve of Friday’s draw in Washington, D.C., the 38-year-old Inter Miami forward hinted that he could be left out of Argentina’s squad as the 2021 world champions bid to defend their crown.
“I hope I can be there. I’ve said before that I’d love to be there,” said Messi, who previously said he will play if his body holds up.
“At worst, I’ll be there watching it live, but it will be special,” he added
“The World Cup is special for everyone, for any country — especially for us, because we live it in a completely different way.”
Messi, who will lead Inter Miami against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS Cup final on Saturday, acknowledged that the roster of talent — younger talent — is deep in Argentina and manager Lionel Scaloni will have tough decisions to make before the World Cup.
“New players keep appearing; aside from the ones already there, new faces keep coming in,” the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner said. “When a group is like this, it’s easier for newcomers to fit in.”
Messi has played in five World Cups for Argentina and holds the national team records for caps (196) and goals (115).
US President Donald Trump has intensified his attacks on Somali immigrants for a second consecutive day, claiming they have “destroyed Minnesota” and “destroyed our country.” His remarks come amid growing criticism that he is using inflammatory language toward migrant communities.
Speaking to reporters, Trump described Minnesota as “a hellhole right now,” asserting that Somali residents “should be out of here” and that “all they do is complain.” His comments follow recent fraud cases involving individuals of Somali descent accused in Covid relief schemes that netted more than $1 billion. Minnesota is home to roughly 80,000 Somali Americans.
Trump’s rhetoric coincides with the start of a new immigration crackdown in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area. A senior law enforcement official said Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not specifically targeting Somalis, though some may be arrested if they are found to have violated immigration laws.
The president also escalated his long-running attacks on Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, the first Somali American elected to Congress. “She shouldn’t be allowed to be a congresswoman,” Trump said, adding that she should be “thrown out of our country.”
Omar fled Somalia during its civil war, later living in a Kenyan refugee camp before arriving in the U.S. at age 12.
Responding on social media, Omar pushed back against Trump’s rhetoric, saying, “Your message of bigotry won’t work. Somali Americans are here to stay.”
Other Minnesota leaders condemned Trump’s remarks. Sen. Tina Smith described them as “what bigotry looks like,” while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he was proud of the city’s Somali community — prompting Trump to call him “a fool.”
“Then he’s a fool. I wouldn’t be proud,” Trump said. “Look at their nation. Look how bad their nation — it’s not even a nation. It’s just people walking around killing each other,” he said.
“Somalia is considered by many to be the worst country on Earth,” Trump said later, adding that “what the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable.”
“They have destroyed Minnesota,” he said.
The US president has a history of making derogatory remarks about African and immigrant communities. Omar noted in a televised interview that Trump has targeted her and other women of color for years, referencing his previous statement telling “The Squad” to “go back” to their countries — even though all but Omar were born in the United States.
BREAKING: Trump’s Supreme Court judges APPROVE his Texas gerrymanders that gives Republicans 5 more red seats in a stunning blow to our democracy!
The new maps drawn up by Greg Abbott and the Texas GOP that would net Republicans another five Congressional seats had been blocked by a judge panel on the grounds that the map violates the Constitution by discriminating against voters based on race.
Of course, Trump’s Supreme Court judges don’t care about that, having already dealt a major blow to the Voting Rights Act and have made it clear that they are perfectly happy to participate in the dismantlement of our democracy.
Luckily, Democrats are fighting back; the +5 Republican seats have already been canceled out by California’s +5 Democratic seats from the maps approved by voters when they passed Prop 50. But it signals that other Republican states will be able to succeed with redrawing THEIR maps, which makes it even more vital that blue governors redraw their maps in order to counteract the losses.
We cannot allow Trump and his racist Republicans to rig the 2026 midterm elections!- Occupy Democrats
William Troost-Ekong announces retirement from international football
Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has announced his retirement from international football, bringing to an end a distinguished decade with the Super Eagles just weeks before the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco.
Troost-Ekong, 31, confirmed in an emotional statement that his final appearance for Nigeria came in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff defeat to DR Congo — a loss that ended the country’s qualification hopes.
Troost-Ekong retires as one of the most influential defenders of his generation and a central figure in Nigeria’s football renaissance over the last decade.
Today we inaugurated, in Inhassoro, the first Integrated Hydrocarbon Processing Infrastructure, a historic landmark that puts Mozambique on the path of local transformation, industrialization and energy sovereignty.
This project, which includes the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Production Unit, Temane Thermal Plant and new industrial capabilities, means more jobs, more energy for families, more competitiveness for the economy, and more dignity for our people. We are transforming gas into industry, into income and real opportunities for Mozambicans.
The presence of my counterpart and brother President Cyril Ramaphosa demonstrates the strength of the partnership between Mozambique and South Africa. We grow together, move forward together and build a stronger region.
This is a decisive step towards economic independence. Mozambique produces, Mozambique transforms, Mozambique advances
Paul Kagame — “Africa Must Build A Unified Currency, One Grounded In Our Own Natural Wealth, Not In The Dollar Or The Euro.”
Rwandan President Paul Kagame has called on African leaders to create a single unified African currency backed by Africa’s natural resources.
Kagame said if Africa had a unified and single currency, it would strengthen its economic sovereignty and reduce dependence on foreign currencies like the US dollar.
The late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi once pushed for a gold-backed African dinar.
A Sierra Leonean cannot use the Leone in Nigeria, nor can a Nigerian use the Naira in Sierra Leone, despite both countries being part of the same continent. The same goes for every other African.
The time is now for one currency, one passport and one Africa.

Germany’s Foreign Minister just threatened direct war with Russia over Ukraine, and said a world war is acceptable if it happens.
“Next week Russia either bows… or we enter the war directly. And if it turns into a world war then let it be for Ukraine.”
This is not diplomacy. It is a dangerous escalation from a nation once seen as Europe’s strategic anchor.
When leaders treat global conflict as a bargaining chip, everyone pays the price. You need to understand what this shift means for European security, energy stability, and your own exposure to escalating tensions.
The rhetoric has crossed a line. The stakes are no longer regional. They are global.
This moment could reshape alliances, markets, and military postures across the continent.
Russia says it has no interest in rejoining the G8. The group no longer represents the world’s leading economies, says Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.
He points out that BRICS now holds more collective economic power than the G7. The share of G7 countries in global GDP continues to shrink. This shift reflects a broader realignment in global economic influence.
If you track how power structures evolve, this statement matters. It signals Russia’s strategic pivot toward multipolar alliances and away from Western-dominated forums.
You should understand what this means for international cooperation, trade flows, and how nations position themselves in a changing world order.
U.S. STRIKES $1.7B HEALTH DEAL WITH KENYA TO COUNTER CHINA IN AFRICA
Sec of State Rubio hosted Kenyan President William Ruto at the State Department, signing a 5-year Health Framework of Cooperation.
The deal is worth $2.5 billion ($1.7B from the U.S., $850M from Kenya).
It’s the kickoff to Trump’s revamped global health strategy that ditches USAID’s old model for targeted, efficient aid.
It targets major killers like HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis, funnels funding through trusted faith-based clinics, and backs Kenya’s push for national health coverage.
Sec Rubio praised Kenya’s Haiti gang-busting role, while both sides signed on to deeper security ties and U.S. business openings in East Africa’s top hub.
Kenya sits at the center of U.S. efforts to push back on China’s $60B Belt and Road blitz, which tends to end in lost ports and debt traps.
This deal shifts from handouts to “self-reliance” aid. It builds real systems, saves U.S. cash, and locks in partners before Beijing grabs them.
With Haiti in chaos and terror threats rising, it shores up stability for 50M Kenyans, secures U.S. supply chains, and road-tests Trump’s “America First” abroad:
Less waste, more wins.
If it scales to dozens of pacts, it’s a blueprint for smart power, health as soft strength in a multipolar world.
INDIA INKS $2 BILLION SUBMARINE DEAL WITH RUSSIA – RIGHT AS PUTIN LANDS IN DELHI
Strategic autonomy, meet shopping spree.
After nearly a decade of haggling, New Delhi has finally locked in a $2 billion lease for a Russian nuclear-powered attack submarine, just in time for Putin’s high-stakes visit to India – his first trip since launching the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The timing is pure choreography.
According to insiders, India will receive the sub within ~2 years (give or take the usual Russian shipyard delays). It’s larger and more capable than the 2 nuclear boats India has previously leased from Moscow – the last of which was quietly returned in 2021.
Under the agreement, India can train, refine nuclear-boat operations, and build up its own fleet – but not use the Russian submarine in wartime.
Classic Kremlin clause: capability without sovereignty.
The symbolism is louder than the price tag. Modi is currently caught between:
– Trump’s 50% tariffs on Indian goods
– U.S. pressure to curb Russian oil imports
– India’s long-term dependency on Russian military tech
– Its growing appetite for U.S. and European arms
Washington wants India to pivot West. India wants… options.
Nuclear-powered attack submarines are the crown jewels of modern naval strategy.
They’re fast, hard to detect, able to stay submerged nearly indefinitely, and critical for controlling the Indian Ocean.
Only 6 countries have ever fielded them. India wants to be the 7th.
And leasing from Russia buys New Delhi the operational experience it needs while it builds its own indigenous boats – a long, expensive, politically fragile process.
Trump has been publicly hammering Modi for buying Russian oil and relying on Russian hardware.
This deal will read in Washington as India doubling down on Moscow at the exact moment Trump is trying to isolate Putin.
The bigger picture: India’s nuclear triad – land, air, sea – is nearing maturity.
Its 3rd ballistic missile submarine enters service next year.
2 home-built attack submarines are underway.
Leasing a Russian boat fills the capability gap while reminding the world that India’s strategic autonomy isn’t a slogan – it’s national doctrine.
This is Delhi playing multi-vector power politics at great-power scale.
NETANYAHU SIGNALS HE WILL LEAD ISRAEL’S AI REVOLUTION: “POWERFUL AND TERRIFYING”
Netanyahu says an even greater revolution is about to unfold in Israel, driven by AI technologies the country has already developed:
“I see a much greater revolution coming. It’s here. It’s not coming. .
It’s already here. In all the wondrous technologies that we have, some of them are very frightening.
I’ve talked to the leaders of AI in the world, and you ask yourself, there’s so many blessings in this, but there could be a curse.
But to channel it into the blessings that Israel can give itself and the world.”
He laid out two defining missions: harnessing AI and achieving broader regional peace.
“These are two enormous tasks that I’d like to take on.
And you know, when history is within reach, you don’t step aside, you step forward.”
Israel has quietly become a global AI powerhouse.
Its defense sector has pioneered autonomous weapons, surveillance systems, and battlefield intelligence that the world is only beginning to understand.
Netanyahu isn’t just talking about the future.
He’s telling you Israel already built it, and he’s not going anywhere until he decides what it becomes.
U.S TO PAKISTAN’S TOP GENERAL: TIME’S UP, GET READY FOR SANCTIONS
In a scathing letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, 44 Members of Congress just torched Pakistan’s top general Asim Munir – accusing him of running a global crackdown machine targeting journalists, political opponents, and even U.S citizens.
The receipts are brutal:
– U.S-based journalist Ahmed Noorani’s brothers abducted and tortured after exposing military corruption.
– Musician Salman Ahmad’s family kidnapped – only released after FBI and State Department got involved.
– Civilians tried in military courts – judicial independence = gone.
– Peaceful protest now a criminal offense.
– 2024 elections = rigged, opposition jailed, media silenced.
– Women, minorities, and Baloch activists systematically targeted.
– U.S. citizens harassed and threatened by Pakistan’s military – even on American soil.
Congress isn’t mincing words: They’re demanding Global Magnitsky sanctions, visa bans, and asset freezes on Munir and every official involved.
They also want the immediate release of Imran Khan and all political prisoners.
No more blank checks. No more silence. America doesn’t partner with dictators.
Japan Just Hit the Brakes on Taiwan Tensions: Sanae Takaichi Backs Down!
After weeks of tensions, Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has quietly walked back her earlier claim that a PLA operation around Taiwan could trigger a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan.
Today, she told parliament something very different:
Japan’s position on Taiwan “has not changed.” And that is a major climbdown.
Here’s why this matters
1️⃣ Japan just re-anchored itself to the 1972 Japan–China Joint Communique
Takaichi reaffirmed that Tokyo’s stance remains exactly what it was in 1972, when Japan normalised relations with China.
That communique clearly states:
– Japan fully understands and respects China’s position that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.
– Japan upholds Article 8 of the Potsdam Declaration and the Cairo Declaration, both of which legally require Japan to return territories seized from China.
In other words:
Japan cannot treat Taiwan as a sovereign state without contradicting its own signed agreements.
2️⃣ This correction didn’t happen in a vacuum
Takaichi’s earlier comments triggered a diplomatic storm. Beijing responded immediately, warning that her remarks were dangerous and destabilising. Japan got the message.
With a struggling economy, shrinking population and deep reliance on China as its largest trading partner, Tokyo cannot afford self-inflicted geopolitical chaos.
This walk-back is Japan returning to reality.
3️⃣ The truth: Tokyo is not prepared to fight a war over Taiwan
Despite U.S. pressure and constant Western commentary, Japan knows:
– It sits well within range of China’s missile systems. – Its constitution still restricts offensive warfare. – Its military is not built for a Taiwan scenario. – Japanese public opinion remains firmly anti-war.
The earlier rhetoric was political posturing. Today’s statement was policy.
4️⃣ China’s diplomatic approach is working
Beijing didn’t escalate. It simply reminded Japan of the historical documents Japan itself signed.
And Tokyo stepped back.
This is how China manages regional stability, firm, consistent and grounded in international agreements that actually exist, not hypothetical narratives built in Washington think tanks.
5️⃣ The bigger takeaway
The Taiwan question is not a playground. It’s a sensitive, legally defined issue that countries cannot casually reinterpret.
Japan’s correction shows that reality still matters.
And despite the noise coming from Western media, one thing remains unchanged:
There is one China. Japan acknowledged it in 1972. And it just acknowledged it again today.
Former Isibaya actress Gcina Mkhize wins first round in her court bid to save her house
Gcina who played the role of Khanyisile Majola-Ndlovu in the now defunct daily telenovela won the first round in her bid to challenge the decision by the bank to auction her house without her knowledge and to challenge the court’s decision to evict her.
During her court appearance today where she filed court papers opposing the two decision at the Booysens Magistrate Court in Johhanesburg, the court ruled in her favour and allowed her matter to heard on 5 February 2026.
” The court ruled that the application for postponement was accepted. This will give me more time to get a law practioner who will be able to assist us on the house matter. It’s a small victory and we cannot be excited about but at least I know that during the holidays me and my kids will not be on the streets. I will be going back to court again on the 5th of Feb ’26. I am not sure I am allowed to get into the details of how the proceedings unfolded but what is important is that we were granted the application to postpone,” she said.
MDN News reported over the weekend that Gcina was on the verge of having a black Christmas after the new owner and businessman Dzivhu Tevin Mashila reportedly bought the house in October 2023 at an auction and the home was registered at the deeds office in January 2024.
https://youtu.be/Mqe0cAc6cEg?si=-BUCrXxFY-J3D0xv
It emerged that Mashila succesfully applied for the eviction to order which was granted and now was facing the harsh reality of being homeless with her family.
“I’m prepared to fight for my house with everything that I have. I don’t want to lie to you and say I do have funds to find a legal practioner to help me fight this matter but I believe that God is with me. My ancestors are with me as I’m fighting for the hojse that they gifted me,” she said.

KING MSWATI DENIES ISSUING DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT TO JOSEPH KABILA, “CLAIMS ALL FOREIGN VISITORS RECEIVE COMPLIMENTARY CITIZENSHIP WITH AIRPORT PARKING VOUCHER”
By The Enlightened Spectator | Tough Talk Satire Section | NotSoSeriousNews (NSSN) & Our Foreign Affairs Correspondent
4 December 2025
MBABANE – The Kingdom of Eswatini is once again at the centre of diplomatic intrigue, this time involving former Democratic Republic of Congo president-turned-international-fugitive Joseph Kabila, who has allegedly been granted citizenship, a diplomatic passport, and possibly a loyalty card for the King Mswati International Airport gift shop.
According to sources who insist on remaining anonymous—largely because they fear both governments equally—the arrangement was sanctioned personally by King Mswati, who is reportedly expanding his “Buy One Citizen, Get One Half-Price” Christmas campaign. Some insiders suggest it may soon include complimentary in-flight snacks and a free Wi-Fi voucher.
Kabila, recently sentenced to death in absentia by a DRC military court, was reportedly spotted browsing duty-free snacks at the airport before jetting off using what officials insist was not an Eswatini diplomatic passport but “a maroon notebook of similar aesthetic quality”, perfect for jotting down coup plots or shopping lists.
Palace Responds: ‘Never Heard of Him, Might Be a Tourist’
Contacted for comment, royal spokesperson Percy Simelane dismissed the allegations with the serene confidence of someone who has absolutely no intention of reading the Immigration Act, or indeed any legislation written in the past century.
“We are not aware Mr Kabila has been granted citizenship,” Simelane said, carefully enunciating every syllable as if hoping the statement itself might become legally binding by sheer force of dignity.
“Many multi-nationals apply for citizenship. Some are accepted, some refused, some appear with pre-signed forms already stamped by the King. That is the natural rhythm of governance. Or, as we call it in Eswatini, Tuesday.”
When pressed further, Simelane added that Eswatini’s citizenship process is “transparent, rigorous, and entirely coincidental”, before abruptly ending the call due to what he described as “unexpected diplomatic weather,” leaving reporters questioning whether this was a meteorological or metaphorical phenomenon.
Immigration System Reveals Everything Except the Bits They’ve Hidden
Leaked Home Affairs documents appear to confirm the issuance of a diplomatic passport, although officials stressed that publishing the passport number would jeopardise Kabila’s safety, his secrecy, and—most importantly—Eswatini’s reputation for plausible deniability.
An immigration insider claimed:
“Honestly, it’s not unusual. Last month we issued a diplomatic passport to someone who only popped in to ask for directions to Mozambique. It’s basically a loyalty programme at this point.”
Regional Politics Descend Further into Soap Opera
Kabila, whose relationship with current DRC president Félix Tshisekedi has deteriorated faster than a budget airline lunch, is believed to have sought refuge in Eswatini after being accused of maintaining ties with the M23 rebels.

Political analysts say this alleged partnership between Mswati and Kabila adds yet another chapter to the Southern-African dramedy currently unfolding, which has already included a failed coup, mysterious rebels, and a storyline suspiciously reminiscent of several Netflix series—though arguably with better costumes and slightly less predictable plot twists.
Christian Malanga, one of the most recent coup-linked characters, was reportedly associated with Prince Sicalo, the King’s son and Principal Secretary for Defence and State Security—or, as critics describe him, “Eswatini’s unofficial Minister of Plot Twists.”
Eswatini Government Looking Forward to Moving On
When asked whether the Kingdom might reconsider its citizenship policies given recent headlines, one senior official replied:
“Citizenship? Oh, we don’t do that any more. We just issue passports to anyone who looks like they might tip well at the airport restaurant.”
The spokesperson then paused, looked around to ensure no recordings were being made, and added:
“Besides, the King likes to collect presidents. It’s become more of a hobby. Some people collect stamps; we collect heads of state.”
I have been wrongly detained and I demand to be released immediately. I want the general public to know that what happened was not on purpose and purely an accident.
I am calling up on all women to stand with me in this trying moment. All I wanted was to teach my boy mathematics which has been a problem to him and then by accident he entered me.
I’m a teacher with principles for over 10 years now and so it’s shocking that most people especially fellow ladies have rushed to judge me instead of supporting a fellow woman.
Once again I want to inform the world that what happened between me and the young boy in the bedroom was purely an accident during the time I was tutoring him in mathematics.
I also thanks all the women who has supported me in this trying moment.
“I have been having problems with my Mathematics subject, Anty assured she can help me understand everything in a short while if she tutors me.
She invited me over to her house where we would be having private lessons after school hours. I agreed, the first day I got there… Anty started touching me!”

America is seemingly working to replace South Africa in what it calls “a new G20”. In a written piece, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says it will welcome, in particular, Poland to join them to assume its rightful place in the G20. He says the central European country now ranks among the world’s 20 largest economies.
Rubio further explained that this is in stark contrast with South Africa, which hosted this year’s G20. He cited the African country’s stagnated economy under which he claims is burdensome by a regulatory regime driven by racial grievance. Rubio added that it also falls outside the group of the 20 largest industrialised economies.
The top US diplomat, who went on to reiterate the lies of Afrikaner persecution and land seizures, also took issue with Pretoria’s relations with Iran, and what he called “Hamas sympathisers”. The US has been trying to bully South Africa as it forges its own redress and foreign policies.
ECZ SHOULD USE CHAWAMA BY-ELECTION MONEY TO EXTEND VOTER REGISTRATION – KBF
ZAMBIA Must Prosper President Kelvin Fube Bwalya says the Electoral Commission of Zambia should use the money earmarked for the now vacant Chawama seat to extend the voter registration exercise.
On Saturday, the mass registration of voters came to a conclusion, with the ECZ stating that the process, which was twice extended, would not see another extension.
Meanwhile, Bwalya claims that the Northern part of the country recorded lower numbers of new registrations because it was disadvantaged.
The latest ECZ update as of November 26 shows that Copperbelt, Southern and Lusaka Provinces recorded the highest new registrations, with 231,883, 218,966 and 200,367 respectively. Meanwhile, Muchinga (61,069), Northern (89,007) and North Western (101,033) recorded the lowest.
Commenting on that in an interview, Bwalya, who is also a Tonse Alliance member, was of the view that the exercise should have gone on until the end of the year.
“First of all, it is unfortunate that ECZ is talking the way it’s talking. Our appeal has always been to keep the voter registration and voter verification open. Perhaps even up to the end of the year, this year. Voter registration is one of the pillars of our democracy. People have to choose leaders who they want. And the numbers must be enough to demonstrate [that] the demography has been represented. When you give a period of registration or verification of voter registration, it does not necessarily mean that everyone is going to find the time to fit into your programme, simply because you are government or you’re ECZ,” he said.
“As a government and as ECZ, give enough notice and enough time for people to fit into their schedule. What I found on the ground was that there were pockets of people that were registering and verifying their voters’ cards and making sure that they are on the voters’ roll. There is genuine interest from Zambians, especially the first-time voters, who would like to be part of our registers as citizens. Voting is a duty of every citizen, and it must not be taken lightly. This is what our forefathers fought for, to give us the right to vote and be able to elect our own leaders. When we deny people that, simply because we are rushing, [it is wrong]. In our view, as Zambia Must Prosper, we find that unfortunate and terribly wrong”.
Bwalya said the money that could be wasted in Chawama should be channelled towards the extension of the voter registration exercise.
“The Speaker of the National Assembly is very quick to deny Tasila Lungu [from] representing the people of Chawama by declaring the Chawama seat vacant. That means, technically, if she doesn’t get an injunction, we’re going for a by-election. That money being wasted there can be used in the extension of voter registration. That is more important to me than a by-election in Chawama. Honourable Tasila Lungu has not been absent or an absentee Member of Parliament deliberately. Her father died, for God’s sake. Let us be morally right as a nation. I don’t know what is wrong with Nelly Mutti. And as a lawyer, she must understand. Most of all, she’s a woman, this is what we expect of a mother,” Bwalya said.
https://youtu.be/AHQlalT8LyI?si=oBf65kAn-QYU73-1
“Tasila is not making decisions by herself, the family is involved. So whatever the family decides, she has to obey. She doesn’t want to be declared a truant child who has put politics above the burial of her father. Traditionally, that would be a curse on her part. So why wouldn’t the Speaker of the National Assembly, for instance, understand that? And why wouldn’t Mwangala Zaloumis on the other side understand that there are more people willing to register at their own time and extend the period? We don’t need to take the registration of voters lightly, or the verification of voters lightly. Neither should we take the declaration of the seat of a member of parliament lightly, especially when we’ve got very few months before the dissolution of Parliament”.
Further, Bwalya said UPND’s wasting of resources suffocates him, adding that such decisions annoy citizens.
“Why are we going to be wasting government resources in this manner? I mean, this UPND government suffocates me in its thinking sometimes. But they’re just annoying the Zambians. Because that’s taxpayers’ money. It is not Nelly Mutti’s money. It is not Mwangala Zaloumis’ money, it is taxpayers’ money. So let them put the taxpayers’ money where it really matters, not in nonsense. Nobody wants a by-election in Chawama. And nobody wants to cancel the registration of voters and the voter verification. So the whole thing in terms of decisions, for me, is dangerously wrong. This kind of thinking… This government is worrying,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bwalya claimed the low number of registrations in the northern block was as a result of a deliberate policy of the UPND government to have voter registration continuously going on in the Southern Province and part of Western Province while having excuses for the northern block.
“It is not about Northern Province not wanting to participate. I think our chiefs are on record. Even in the Eastern Province, our chiefs are on record. It has been a deliberate policy of this Hakainde Hichilema government to have voter registration continuously going on in the Southern Province and part of Western Province. Because they think that’s their bedroom. That’s their bedrock. So they have been continuously registering voters on the Southern side. We know that for a fact. In the Northern Circuit, it has been excuse after excuse. In the Northern circuit, our information on the ground from our chiefs, officials and others on the ground, including their own officials in the ECZ who have been talking to us, [is that] it’s always ‘this machine has broken down’,” Bwalya said.
He said the other reason was the time of the exercise, adding that the process should have started as early as August before the onset of the rains in the Northern circuit.
“The other point that we got from most of our church leaders [and] traditional leaders is that this thing has come at the wrong time. Right now, it’s heavy rains in the northern circuits. Rains there come quite early. So when people are going out in the village to go and start their farming, you don’t expect them to travel back to go and start doing voter registration. The timing is wrong completely. People leave the villages and they go to their fields. Because their fields are not in the villages. They keep their farming blocks away from the villages. So they go there and they camp there. So when the people from the registration office or ECZ come in the towns or districts, they are out of the villages. This is another problem which the government should have noticed,” said Bwalya.
“So the voter registration should have started around August, September, October, before the onset of the rains. Because with the rains, everybody is thinking, what are we going to eat next year? I mean, you know how bad the economy is. So people are worried about school kids, how are they going to have their fees to be paid and things like that. They should stop lying about this free education. People still need to transport their kids, they still need to buy uniforms. There’s a whole lot of mumbo-jumbo for a parent. So these are the problems that the UPND doesn’t think of. Voter registration, in our view, as Zambia Must Prosper, must be an ongoing exercise. Just like they did in the Southern Province”.
ZAMBIANS TO FEEL IMPACT OF ELECTRICITY INVESTMENTS IN 2026 AND IT’S NOT BECAUSE OF ELECTIONS, SAYS ENERGY MINISTER MAKOZO CHIKOTE
By: Thomas Afroman Mwale
Government has announced that Zambians will begin to feel the impact of ongoing energy sector investments in 2026, outlining that the measures are aimed at ending the current power deficit that has led to persistent load shedding.
Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote has emphasized that the anticipated improvements should not be linked to the 2026 elections but to the long-term plans Government has already set in motion.
Speaking at the Ground-Breaking Ceremony for the Kafue Gorge Lower 100-megawatt Solar Project in Chirundu, Mr. Chikote urged citizens not to live in fear of continued load shedding but to remain confident that Government is addressing the crisis through bold investments in solar and other alternative energy sources.
The Minister praised President Hakainde Hichilema, describing him as a visionary leader whose energy reforms and Public-Private Partnerships are now delivering positive results in the sector.
He reiterated that Government cares for the welfare of citizens, stressing that next year, they will appreciate.
At the same event, ZESCO Managing Director Justin Loongo stated that the project costing $90 million fits into the utility’s broader vision of expanding electricity access.
He said ZESCO has subsidized connection fees from K4,866 to K300 as part of this commitment.
Mr. Loongo added that ZESCO, together with its partners, is exploiting multiple energy sources to reduce Zambia’s long-term dependence on hydropower.
Meanwhile, Power China and JISCO reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to delivering the project within 10 months, while empowering 600 local workers and creating 100 permanent jobs. #SunFmTvNews
PRESS STATEMENT: BY HON. JEAN KAPATA PATRIOTIC FRONT – ACTING NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON
Hon. Davis Mwila is the least qualified person to speak about the life, direction, or future of the Patriotic Front. His outbursts must not be accorded any seriousness whatsoever, especially coming from an individual who is clearly driven by bitterness and personal frustration rather than the interests of the party.
Let it be stated plainly: Mr. Mwila was removed from the Central Committee, and his anger stems from the fact that he believed he was untouchable in the PF. This is a timely reminder to all members that discipline is the backbone of loyalty, and no one is more important than the collective will of the party. The Patriotic Front does not exist to serve individual ambitions or selfish agendas.
It must not be forgotten that Davis Mwila served as Secretary General at the very moment the PF suffered a historic and humiliating electoral defeat—losing by over one million votes. That record loss stands as a direct indictment of his failed leadership and his inability to manage the party effectively when it mattered most.
As Acting National Chairperson, I am calling on all committed and loyal members of the Patriotic Front to remain calm, focused, and not allow themselves to be swayed by disgruntled individuals like Davis Mwila, who should be offering an apology to the membership instead of issuing reckless statements.
The PF remains strong, united, and moving forward with clarity of purpose. As we prepare for the General Conference, I urge all members to stay steadfast, disciplined, and unwavering.
If Mr. Mwila wishes to leave the party, he is free to do so. We will not beg him to stay. We are fully aware that he has a preferred presidential candidate and is attempting to stage-manage an outcome through shortcuts and manipulation. Let him be reminded: the Patriotic Front has one legitimate and non-negotiable process for choosing its president—an elective General Conference. That process will proceed, and it will not bend to personal schemes or hidden agendas.
Hon. Jean Kapata Patriotic Front Acting National Chairperson
POLITICAL | Mwila Declares PF “Dead” as Civil War Deepens
The Patriotic Front is back in headlines after former Secretary General Davies Mwila publicly declaring that “PF is dead” and urging members to “join other political parties.” His remarks, made during a News Diggers interview, have triggered a fresh round of internal brawls, counter-attacks, and loyalty tests ahead of a still-suspended convention.
Mwila, a long-time power broker and current Mundubile ally, did not hold back. He said Given Lubinda, who is acting party president, lacks both legitimacy and capacity to reunite the fractured organisation.
“There is no difference between Hakainde Hichilema and Given Lubinda,” Mwila said.
“They are all destructive, they always bring divisions in leadership.”
That line has become the most circulated among PF structures on WhatsApp. It is a politically loaded comparison. Mwila is accusing Lubinda of the same national-level failures PF attributes to Hichilema: division, confusion, and loss of cohesion. It is a message designed to isolate Lubinda from the PF base while drawing sympathy toward Mundubile’s camp.
Yet, within hours, the counter-punch came.
Miles Sampa, Lubinda’s ally, who continues to speak for a growing faction, dismissed Mwila as the author of PF’s 2021 defeat.
“Davies Mwila should shut up,” Sampa wrote.
“He made PF and President Lungu lose through violent cadres and wrong MP adoptions he sold to the highest bidders.”
This is the first time Sampa has publicly named Mwila as the centre of 2021 failure in such blunt terms. And it sets the stage for three competing narratives in PF:
• Mwila’s narrative: PF is dead under Lubinda; save yourself and leave. • Lubinda’s narrative: PF is intact; the confusion is manufactured by expelled or suspended members. • Sampa’s narrative: Mwila and Kambwili destroyed PF’s cohesion long before 2021; Lubinda is protecting the remnants.
The party’s internal processes remain frozen. The postponed general conference has no new date. Court injunctions, parallel structures and rival secretariats have created a constitutional vacuum.
Mwila says this paralysis is deliberate, alleging Lubinda “knows he cannot win” and is avoiding the conference to preserve control. “If he can fail to unite PF, what about a country?” Mwila charged.
PF insiders who spoke anonymously to The People’s Brief say the current hostility reflects the final collapse of PF’s succession matrix, which was never resolved after President Lungu’s exit.
These sources argue that Mwila’s declaration of PF’s death is designed to pressure Lubinda’s camp into releasing control of the party leadership and conference agenda.
The public reaction has been equally fierce. PF purists are mocking Mwila’s “political prophecy” record, arguing that his warnings of PF members going to jail were self-fulfilling because he oversaw the same violent ecosystem that collapsed the party.
Meanwhile, Sampa supporters are celebrating his counter-attack as evidence that he means well
For a party heading into a general election cycle, these divisions are catastrophic. PF is yet to present a unified candidate, a unified ideology, or even a unified secretariat. The convention suspension deepens the uncertainty.
The only political certainty today is this: PF’s internal fights have reached a level where leaders are telling supporters to walk away.
Guinea-Bissau: After Senegal and then Congo, Umaro Sissoco Embalo takes refuge in Morocco
Auteur: Mouhamed Camara
Ousted on November 26 by General Horta N’Tam, Umaro Sissoco Embalo is seeking refuge in Morocco. According to information from Jeune Afrique, the deposed president left Brazzaville on Wednesday, December 3, to travel to the Moroccan capital, Rabat. This will be his third trip, following his journeys from Bissau to Dakar, and then from Dakar to Brazzaville.
According to the source, Umaro Sissoco Embalo boarded a special flight, accompanied by several of his close associates, bound for Morocco. The former president of Guinea-Bissau is expected to remain there for some time.
If he chose Rabat, after Dakar and Brazzaville, it was because Embalo maintained good diplomatic relations with the Moroccan authorities, being also a long-time supporter of Morocco’s claim to Western Sahara. – Scanweb
TRUMP TO HOST SIGNING OF PEACE DEAL BETWEEN LEADERS OF DR CONGO AND RWANDA THE leaders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are set to sign a peace deal aimed at ending the long-running conflict in the region at a summit hosted by US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Ahead of the summit, there has been an escalation in fighting in resource-rich eastern DR Congo between government forces and rebels believed to be backed by Rwanda. DR Congo’s army accused its rivals of attempting to “sabotage” the peace process, but the M23 rebels said the army had launched an offensive in breach of a ceasefire.
At the start of the year, the M23 seized large parts of eastern DR Congo in an offensive that saw thousands killed and many more forced from their homes. DR Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame have frequently exchanged insults in recent years, each accusing the other of starting the conflict. Trump got the two countries’ foreign ministers to sign a peace accord in June, hailing it as a “glorious triumph”. Tshisekedi and Kagame will now endorse it, with several other African and Arab leaders including those of Burundi and Qatar expected to attend the signing ceremony.
The Trump administration has spearheaded talks between DR Congo and Rwanda, hoping that resolving the differences between the two neighbours will pave the way for the US to increase investments in the resource-rich region. Rwanda denies supporting the M23, despite UN experts saying its army is in “de facto control of M23 operations”. The M23 seized key cities in eastern DR Congo earlier this year, including Goma and Bukavu. In a statement, DR Congo army spokesman Gen Sylvain Ekenge said the rebels had launched a fresh offensive on Tuesday on villages in the South Kivu province.
The villages are about 75km (47 miles) from Uvira city, which lies on the border with Burundi, and has been the headquarters of the South Kivu regional government since the rebels seized Bukavu. For its part, the M23 said the DR Congo army had launched an air and ground assault against its positions, and this was done in cahoots with Burundian forces.
Burundi has not commented on the allegation. It has several thousand troops in eastern DR Congo to support the embattled army. Despite the fanfare and the presence of the two leaders in Washington, some analysts are sceptical about whether the deal will lead to lasting peace.
A DR Congo researcher with the South Africa-based Institute for Security Studies think-tank, Bram Verelst, told the BBC that there was “currently no ceasefire in place, and the M23 rebellion continues to expand and consolidate its control”. “The signing ceremony is unlikely to alter this situation, though there is some small hope it could increase accountability on Congolese and Rwandan leaders to honour their commitments,” he said. Rwanda says it has adopted “defensive measures” in eastern DR Congo because of the threat posed by the FDLR militia group, which includes fighters who carried out the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
Kagame insists on the disarmament of the group, while DR Congo demands the withdrawal of Rwandan troops as a condition for peace. The deal to be signed says both of these should happen.
However, several peace deals going back to the 1990s have failed after Rwanda accused previous Congolese government of failing to disarm the FDLR, and this remains one of the main stumbling blocks in current efforts to end the conflict. DR Congo’s government has also demanded that the M23 gives up the territory it has seized, something it has so far refused to do in the Qatar-brokered talks.
Qatar and the US are co-ordinating their mediation efforts. Qatar has strong ties with Rwanda, while the US is seen to be closer to DR Congo. The US State Department said in 2023 that DR Congo had an estimated $25trn (£21.2trn) in mineral reserves. This includes cobalt, copper, lithium, manganese and tantalum – key ingredients needed to make the electronic components used in computers, electric vehicles, mobile phones, wind turbines and military hardware.
“We’re getting, for the United States, a lot of the mineral rights from the Congo as part of it,” Trump said, ahead of the deal signed in June. Prof Jason Stearns, a Canada-based political scientist who specialises in the region, told the BBC that the US has been pushing for an economic agreement that could see DR Congo and Rwanda co-operate on hydro-electronic power, mining and infrastructure development. “The logic is that it will provide the peace dividend,” he said.
However, DR Congo has made it clear that while it would sign the agreement, it would not “advance on that deal until Rwandan troops have withdrawn from eastern DR Congo”, Prof Stearns added. BBC
MALANJI SEEKS COURT ORDER TO STOP FORFEITURE OF SEIZED HELICOPTERS
Former Foreign Affairs Minister Joe Malanji has applied before the Lusaka Magistrates Court seeking an order to stay the forfeiture execution of two helicopters which were seized by the state a month ago.
In the application filed at the subordinate court, Mr. Malanji says he is aware that President Hakainde Hichilema publicly declared the two helicopters forfeited in the matter will be donated to the Zambia Air Force –ZAF- and that he has written to the Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri to express concern about the pronouncement.
He argues that if the helicopters are forfeited before his appeal in the Lusaka High Court is determined, any successful outcome on appeal will be rendered academic and prejudicial to the appeal.
Mr. Malanji also maintains that the helicopters are the subject of parallel proceedings in South Africa and that third-party interests in some of the properties remain unresolved.
The application comes after Mr. Malanji’s conviction on seven counts of possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime under the forfeiture of proceeds of crime act.
He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment with hard labour and filed an appeal against both conviction and sentence in September.
Mr. Malanji has asked the court to preserve the status quo by staying execution of the forfeiture order pending the appeal, saying such relief is necessary to prevent irreparable prejudice.
