UPND all they know is to use, misuse and abuse you – KBF

By Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

ZAMBIA Must Prosper (ZMP) president Kelvin Fube Bwalya says praise singers are living in a fool’s paradise if they believe the amount of lies by the UPND.

Bwalya, in an address on Sunday, said the UPND were an ungrateful capitalists “because all they know is to use you, misuse and abuse you”.
“Let me address the UPND praise singers for a moment. The UPND leadership I dare say is an ungrateful group of people that will never say thank you to you the praise singers, not to anybody who helped its leadership get into power. Let alone reward anyone who helped it get into power,” he said. “This leadership is a group of people who are merely capitalist at heart. They will not reward you. They will not give you any support. They will not give you any meaningful empowerment.”

Bwalya challenged those supporting UPND to state what the party had done for them.
“How many of you praise singers today can stand on an anthill and say after the 2021 general elections the UPND leadership went round this country to even say thank you to you? How many of you can say that?” he asked. “How many so-called alliance partners have been rewarded for the help and indeed the effort they put in during the campaigns? How many of you as praise singers have received any help at a personal, group, cooperative level or even at party level?”
Bwalya said the UPND was unthankful.

“Answer these questions truthfully and don’t answer these questions when intoxicated. Answer these questions truthfully. The truth is UPND can never say thank you because all they know is to use you, misuse and abuse you. In fact the UPND victory was never celebrated by the party officials in the various provinces, let alone at national level. If UPND was a family and was a home and there was no celebration. How can a leader who does not manage to celebrate within his home celebrate with the nation? An empty mind will never write an idea, let alone a book or a vision,” said Bwalya. “An empty mind will always tell lies and boast. And if you believe the amount of lies and boasting then you praise singers are living in a fool’s paradise. This leadership that you the praise singers want to protect will not take you anywhere. And in fact you will just make the majority of Zambians hate you for things that you don’t know. Stop defending things that cannot be defended.”

ENONOMY YABANTU, KULYA BAIKUTA – LUSAMBO

…..says the cost of Living in Lusaka is higher than the Projected K9,000

Lusaka, Wednesday, February 8, 2023 ( Smart Eagles)

The Cost of Living in Lusaka could be higher than what has been projected by JCTR, Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces Minister Hon. Bowman Chilosha Lusambo has said.

Hon Lusambo said this when he featured on Millennium Radio’s the Interview Programme in Lusaka today.

The Current tabulations of the Cost of Living for a Family of Five in Lusaka currently stands at Over K9,000.

But Mr Lusambo said there is hunger in the country because people are unable to afford decent meals due to the escalating prices of Goods and services.

He said if one was to introspect properly, it would be found that the actual cost of living in Lusaka is beyond K13,000

Hon Lusambo said the country has been destroyed by the current crop of leaders through lies.

He said the Zambian people are still waiting for the UPND to give people mealie meal at K50.

“Economy yabantu Kulya Baikuta noti vama Inflation. Insala fulu mumayanda yabantu. Kuti watwala inflation ku mandevu, Inflation ku Kabushi waya ati clap for me we have a single digit inflation. Inflation Yaba UPND Single digit but the prices continue increasing,” he said.

He has therefore challenged the New Dawn Administration to reduce the fuel Prices which are having an effect on commodities.

“The Ministers and the leaders are unable to see what we are seeing. People are hungry. And when there is hunger, kulaba ukusebana,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hon Lusambo said despite the challenges, Zambia has got a lot of money in form of natural resources.

He said this is why investors come into Zambia and earn a fortune.

Hon Lusambo said it is therefore Prudent for the country to have home based solutions as opposed to rushing to IMF.

He said Zambia must tap into the untapped natural resources adding that it is better than countries like United Arab Emirates (DUBAI) which rely much on artificial resources.

“We have a lot of minerals in this country. People have been taking about dubai, there is nothing special about that country. Zambia is better than Dubai, everything about Zambia is natural, everything about Dubai is Artificial. The difference between Zambia and Dubai is commitment. The people of Dubai are committed to make their country better. But for Zambia, the people have neglected this country. Nowonder I would need the people of Zambia who would support the country,” he said.

The former Kabushi Lawmaker has also noted the need to diversify from the dependence on the mining sector to Agriculture.

ACC, DEC MOVE ON MOF SAGA…we are all victims, complainants – Moyo

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

THE ACC and DEC have selective teeth to bite fast on some cases but in slow motion on others, says Joseph Moyo.

Moyo, a who worked at Special Investigations Team on Economy and Trade (SITET) under the UNIP administration, said stolen money at the MoF belongs “to that woman going into labour to find acceptable facilities safe to bring another life on earth”.

“We are all complainants because it’s our money. We are victims. We ask for no double standards. We ask for no deliberate toothlessness and selective biting,” he said.

The ACC, recently, informed The Mast of

ongoing investigations into financial scandal at the Ministry of Finance.

“Yes, investigations are ongoing

into this Ministry of Finance matter. But that is what I can say for now. I cannot go further other than to confirm that we are still investigating this matter,” said Anti-Corruption Commission director general Tom

Shamakamba.

New information emerged that more than K1 billion has been looted at the Ministry of Finance between 2019 and 2022, double

what the investigation last established.

On January 7, 2023, The Mast published a story in which new information had emerged which revealed that about K533 million

was looted from the Ministry of Finance and not K100 million as earlier reported by the same newspaper in August 2022.

On August 24, 2022, The Mast published a story where a Transparency International Zambia investigation revealed that a cartel at Ministry of Finance (MoF) siphoned money amounting to K100 million between 2019 and

2021 using fictitious events to draw allowances.

Corroborated evidence and information from whistleblowers within the ministry showed various names of officers in the Ministry of Finance.

At the time, names were withheld of people who had seemingly engaged in an intricate network of fictitious and organised activities.

According to the evidence, this loot seemed to be spreading tentacles to strategic ministries,

commissions, and agencies.

The sources explained that once funds were obtained from MoF’s Treasury Single Account (TSA) loans and investments – aspecial account that is dedicated to the

Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ’s) repayment of loans including the Eurobond and financing of investments, the funds were transferred to the respective individuals’ bank accounts through Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system.

Once this money was pulled into these peoples’ accounts it was then laundered into BoZ treasury bills through deposit accounts in order to conceal its nature and origin.

“More than K1billion was looted from the Ministry of Finance between 2019 to date. The K533 million which the ACC has compiled only relates to seven senior staff,” a source said. “For the recoveries that MoF instituted, that was a stunt meant to hoodwink the public and investigators. Actually, more than 200 civil servants were receiving fictitious allowances and fuel drawn without travelling. This is where most of this accumulated

total is coming from. The recoveries that MoF are doing only relate to selected junior staff.”

Commenting on the matter, Moyo, who The African Woman Foundation (TAWF) president, said there must never be blind spots for law enforcement agencies in the fight against corruption.

“The reported suspected K1 billion looting at the Ministry of Finance is a very sad development if proven to be true. Not only a sad development but a serious breach of trust by those tasked to keep and disburse our money. The most concerning aspect is the cold reception this case has received from law enforcement agencies,” he said. “Remember when UPND formed government, law enforcement agencies confessed that under the PF they had no teeth to bite? At that time we asked as to who had disabled their ability to bite? Should we conclude that now the ACC and DEC have no teeth potency? Or do they have selective teeth? Are they only able to bite veggies, and meat only when convenient? If those slow motion moves against this reported abuse is true then that’s a problem and they will be staining and betraying President Hakainde Hichilema.” Moyo said there has been some zeal exhibited by the ACC and DEC when dealing with some politically exposed persons “where even journalists have been invited to witness raids on some properties even before concluding investigations”.

“The question is what is the difference with Ministry of Finance saga?” Moyo asked.

He said the Ministry of Finance is the custodian of Zambians’ money and “anyone who helps themselves to that money beyond normal remuneration is robbing all Zambians”.

Moyo, a former Special Investigations Team on Economy and Trade (SITET) member under the UNIP administration which was later changed to DEC, said stolen money at the MoF belongs “to that woman going into labour to find acceptable facilities safe to bring another life on earth”.

“It belongs to that girl child who aspires for a better future. It belongs to a poor farmer who needs help. It belongs to me as a patient to fund medical infrastructure, medicines, equipment and specialists for me to have a chance to live. This is the context this reported theft should be looked at. It should be looked at from the angle of us, we, the Zambian people. It’s the highest betrayal when those tasked to be guardians of the national purse on behalf of Zambians deep into it to help themselves,” said Moyo. “It is against this background we must question the suspected double standards by law enforcement agencies in dealing with such matters with national implications affecting every Zambian born thus far and those not born because that money is their inheritance. It is there savings.

We need functional hospitals. This will never be as long as we have others selfishly doing self-help using national resources. We have seen government remove life cushioning subsidies in fertiliser, fuel and energy. These savings were not done to free money for selfish individuals. That becomes a mockery. We are all complainants because it’s our money. We are victims. We ask for no double standards. We ask for no deliberate toothlessness and selective biting.

CSOs DEMAND CONSTITUTION, ELECTORAL PROCESS ACT REFORM ROADMAP

By Fanny Kalonda

A CONSORTIUM of civil society organisations has called on government to immediately release a clear roadmap on the Constitution and electoral process Act (EPA) reform processes.

Addressing the media on behalf of other CSOs at Sarovar Hotel yesterday, CCMG steering committee chairperson Andrew Mwenda noted a lack of commitment on the part of the government to release a comprehensive roadmap on constitutional reform process.

Bishop Mwenda also said the government should provide adequate resources to the Judiciary and Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure a genuine fight against corruption.

“We further note with grave concern the inertia and lack of a roadmap regarding the reform of the electoral process Act (EPA) and the Republican Constitution.

We are taken aback by the lack of commitment on the part of the government to release a comprehensive roadmap on the Constitution and EPA reform processes. We therefore call on the Minister of Justice [Mulambo Haimbe] to immediately release a comprehensive reform roadmap,” he said.

“The process of repealing and replacing the public order Act (POA) cannot be overemphasised. The ‘Public Gatherings Bill’ meant to replace the POA, which underwent various consultations is a positive step for our democracy.

While we commend the government for this gesture, we hope that the final product reflects the will and aspirations of the Zambian people.”

Bishop Mwenda called on the government to urgently enact the access to information legislation.

“It is acknowledged that the process of developing the legal framework is in progress, but we believe there is a need to expedite the finalisation.

We view access to information as critical for citizens to hold state and non-state actors accountable for the decisions and choices they make on behalf of the people. Access to information has the capacity to further entrench Zambia’s democracy as it will allow citizens to make informed decisions when assessing the performance of public officials,” he said.

“Access to information is also an important instrument in the fight against corruption, as it increases democratic accountability and transparency, identifies and exposes corrupt activities, and allows for participation in the development of anti-corruption policies and laws.”

Bishop Mwenda said the government would benefit from the enactment of the access to information law as citizens “will alert law enforcement and other actors of any maleficence, especially in managing public resources”.

“The government has nothing to fear with the passing of access to information legislation. We believe that the government will benefit from a citizenry that has access to information as that will enable everyday citizens to alert law enforcement and other actors of any maleficence, especially in managing public resources,” he said.

And Bishop Mwenda noted that there is a continued culture of obstructing divergent political views by supporters of the ruling party.

“Additionally, we also observed the continued culture of obstructing divergent political views and freedom of expression by supporters and or sympathisers of the ruling party including the use of law enforcement to stifle these freedoms.

Further, a safe and conducive environment for media to play its role effectively during elections is desirable. Media and journalists become victims of violence for providing platforms to competing political parties or candidates.

We therefore call for stiffer punishment for those undermining the role of the media and for police to play their role effectively in protecting safety of journalists,” he said.

“We therefore call upon the Zambia Police to be more vigilant and protect all the citizens irrespective of their political inclinations and or persuasions as long as they are exercising their rights within the ambit of the law.

We further wish to call upon the police going forward to remain impartial and professional in the administration of the public order Act.”

Bishop Mwenda urged the government to provide adequate resources to the Judiciary and Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure a genuine fight against corruption in all its forms.

“Equally support to the Judiciary will enhance access to justice for electoral disputes brought before the courts of law. It is in the nation’s interest that electoral disputes are disposed of within reasonable time as this will help build public confidence in the justice system.

We would like to take this opportunity to caution other two arms government against interference with the Judiciary for political expedience,” he said. “We, the undersigned, continue to objectively provide checks and balances even when it will not be fashionable to do so.

Our role is to ensure respect for the rule of law, respect for the Constitution, true separation of the three arms of government, transparency in the governance system and citizen’s participation in the governance of the country.”

Meanwhile, Bishop Mwenda observed that very few women participated in the past elections as candidates due to the low adoption of women as candidates by political parties.

He said different electoral stakeholders must play a role in ensuring the environment is conducive for women’s participation.

Bishop Mwenda added that political parties must take a leading role of ensuring women are also adopted as candidates.

“Over the years, a lot has been said and done to try and change this detrimental narrative, but little has been achieved thus far. The Zambia National Women’s Lobby has indicated that from the 31 by-elections that took place in various parts of the country in 2022, only 11 women participated.

Three of whom were elected as ward councillors. The small number of women who participated as candidates in the by-elections is indicative of the further reduction in women’s participation in the electoral processes of the country,” said Bishop Mwenda.

“We are of the view that the law pertaining to the filing in of fresh nominations when a candidate withdraws from an impending election, as provided in Article 52(6) of the Constitution, increases the challenges faced by female candidates.

In most cases, female candidates do not have adequate financial resources for all the requirements of an election. Despite the huge resources and human effort that have been spent in the promotion of an inclusive governance system in Zambia, it is still the same old story for youth and persons with disabilities who desire to participate in the governance of our great nation.

They continue to face huge barriers in their individual and collective desire to meaningfully participate in our political dispensation. Major barriers include negative attitudes, limited financial capacity, inaccessible physical environments, and the poor support from political stakeholders and citizens.”

The statement was on behalf of Action Aid Zambia, Alliance for Community Action, Bloggers of Zambia, Centre for Young Leaders in Africa-Zambia, Chapter One Foundation, Christian Churches Monitoring Group, Foundation for Democratic Process, Governance, Electoral Advocacy and Research Services Initiative Zambia, Media Institute for Southern Africa-Zambia Chapter, Operation Young Vote, Transparency International-Zambia, Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue, Zambia Federation for Disability Organisations, and Zambia National Women’s Lobby.

US INTELLIGENCE HAVE INSISTED THE BALLOON SHOT DOWN ON SATURDAY WAS USED BY THE CHINESE MILITARY FOR SPYING

US INTELLIGENCE HAVE INSISTED THE BALLOON SHOT DOWN ON SATURDAY WAS USED BY THE CHINESE MILITARY FOR SPYING.

Unnamed officials told the Washington Post they believed such balloons were used to collect intelligence on strategically relevant territories.

They include Japan, India, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Chinese officials have already denied using such balloons for surveillance.

An official told the Washington Post that the US intelligence community believed some of the balloons were being flown from Hainan, a southern Chinese island that is home to a naval military base.

Quoting an unnamed senior Biden administration official, CBS News confirmed that the US intelligence community believed the balloon was part, in its words, of an “aerial surveillance program run by the People’s Liberation Army out of Hainan”.

On Monday, the US briefed 40 allied countries about the alleged espionage, a senior Biden administration official confirmed to CBS News.
In that briefing, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman also revealed one balloon had circumnavigated the planet in 2019, travelling over Hawaii and Florida.

According to the Biden administration official, a group of US Congressional leaders responsible for overseeing national intelligence matters, known as the Gang of Eight, will be briefed on the development on Wednesday, and Congress will be updated on Thursday,

Last week, the Pentagon said a second Chinese spy balloon had been spotted over Costa Rica and Venezuela.
The discovery of alleged spy balloons has caused a diplomatic row between the US and China.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken cancelled a trip to Beijing, set to take place just a few days after the balloon was first detected. It would have been the first meeting of its kind between the two countries in years.

“This is an unacceptable as well as an irresponsible action,” he said. “It’s even more irresponsible coming on the eve of a long-planned visit.”

US defence officials have previously said at least three suspected Chinese spy balloons flew over the country during Donald Trump’s presidency.

And according to US officials, the balloon shot down had flown over Alaska and Canada before appearing in the US state of Montana, which is home to a number of sensitive nuclear missile sites.
On Monday the US Navy released pictures of the debris of the balloon once it was shot out of the sky.

It was believed to have been nearly 200ft (60m) tall and officials said the debris spread over seven miles (11km) of Atlantic ocean.

24-yr-old makes headlines for marrying white man 61 yrs her senior. They also want to start a family

0

A24-year-old Mississippi woman, who is married to a man 61 years her senior, says she’ll love to have two kids with her husband. In an interview with Kennedy News, Miracle Pogue said her husband’s age wasn’t a determining factor when they started their relationship.

Miracle’s husband, Charles, is 85. The couple became friends in 2019 after meeting in Starkville. Their friendship ultimately evolved into love a year later. Charles popped the question in February 2020, and the couple tied the knot last year.

Touching on the moment she got to know about her husband’s age, Miracle said she “found out in conversation when we asked each other our date of birth and he said he was born in 1937.”

“I never even placed his age, we just wanted to see how it went. I don’t care if he’s 100 or 55, I like him for him. I thought he was maybe 60 or 70 because he looks so good,” the 24-year-old added. “He’s always up and active.”

And though Charles is also older than Miracle’s grandfather, she said the latter – who is 72 – and her mother were supportive when they became aware of their romantic relationship. She, however, said her 47-year-old father was initially not in support of their relationship.

“My grandad said if I was happy and it’s what I want to do then he’s happy. My dad was like ‘hell no ma’am, not at all,’” she said. “It took a lot of time to convince him.”

“If he didn’t come to my wedding, he would have lost me forever,” the bride added. “I told him I needed his support and to walk me down the aisle. Once he got to meet Charles and talk to him, he loved him.”

Charles also had good things to say about his wife, describing her as someone who “has got a lot going for her.” “She’s got her life in order, she’s great,” he continued. “The wedding day was wonderful, it was the best day of my life. There’s no problem with the age difference.”

“People making comments online doesn’t make a difference, we just let them do their thing,” the 85-year-old added. “We’re very happy together. We’re looking forward to starting a family together.”

Miracle said wants to start a family with her husband. “I want him to have another generation. We’re looking to go to an IVF clinic to talk about our options,” she told Kennedy News.

“We went to an IVF clinic before but we really felt the pre-judgment even though they don’t know me and it was quite overwhelming,” she added. “Now I’m forgetting it as long as they give me my baby. Maybe Charles’s age will stop us from having children but I have an open mind, it may not work.”

And though Miracle said her husband is always up and active, she admitted she sometimes gets concerned about his health. “At Thanksgiving he got the pandemic and I broke down, I prepared myself, but the way he gets up and goes every day he’s not going anywhere,” she said. “We prepare for things and he says he might not be here in five years. I tell him he will and he’ll outlive us all.”

She added: “I know realistically I’ll be around longer than him so I try to live and have fun and experience as much as I can with him. We try to live it up. He’s my knight in shining armor.”

Further Clues On The Location Of The Garden Of Eden: The SADC Hypothesis- Peter Sinkamba

By Peter Sinkamba

FURTHER CLUES ON THE LOCATION OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN: THE SADC HYPOTHESIS

As is the case with many other aspects of the creation account in the Bible, the discussion regarding the four rivers written in Genesis is shrouded in mystery. The descriptions given in the Bible are rather vague, and there has been much debate throughout the ages regarding their exact identity.

The text that discusses these rivers can be found in Genesis 2:10–14, and reads as follows:

“A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it separated and became four heads. The name of one is Pishon; that is the one that encompasses all the land of Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good; there is the crystal and the onyx stone. The name of the second river is Gichon; that is the one that encompasses all the land of Cush. The name of the third river is Chidekel; that is the one that flows to the east of Ashur. And the fourth river, that is Perat.”

What can be clearly deduced from a cursory reading of these verses is that there exist four rivers, Pishon, Gichon, Chidekel and Perat, which all seemingly flow from the same source, the Garden of Eden.

There are no rivers identified by such names in the world. So, the location of the rivers is just assumed.

Let’s begin with the second two, since their identification appears to be agreed upon almost commentators.

The name of the third river is Chidekel; that is “the one that flows to the east of Ashur”.

The Chidekel is widely accepted as being the Tigris River, which flows from southeastern Turkey through Iraq, and eventually spills into the Persian Gulf.

The assumption arises from the story of Daniel in the Bible who describes standing on the banks of the Chidekel River while receiving one of his visions during the time when he was in exile in Babylonia. So, the Chidekel River is assumed to be in the region of ancient Babylonia, which is present-day Iraq. According to this identification of the lication, Chidekel River is widely assumed as the Tigris River.

And the fourth river mentioned in the verse is Perat. Commentators identify Perat as the Euphrates River, because it runs almost parallel to the Tigris.

The Euphrates River is later mentioned in God’s promise to Abraham regarding the Land of Israel, and is used as one of the defining borders of the Promised Land. We are also told that there was a time when Jewish civilization had spread so far that members of the tribe of Reuben were living all the way to the banks of the Euphrates.

While these two rivers are easily identifiable and their location is readily agreed upon, the identification of the other two proves more difficult, and is the subject of much debate.

The verse gives us more details regarding the Pishon River than any of the others, yet the information itself is extremely unclear.

“The name of one is Pishon; that is the one that encompasses all the land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; there is the crystal and the onyx stone.”

Until 1984, there were no known gold reserves in Iraq. So, Pishon could not be licated in Iraq or anywhere closer.

Hence, foremost biblical commentators shifted their identification of Pishon as the Nile River. But Nile does not have the same source as Tigris and Euphrates.

According to this view, the area called Havilah refers to somewhere along the Nile region, perhaps Egypt or Sudan.

There is no doubt that Egyptians were known to have mined gold and precious stones back in pre-dynastic times, especially in the region known in ancient times as Nubia, modern-day southern Egypt and Sudan.

Other commentators identify the Pishon as the Ganges River, which flows through India and Bangladesh, emptying into the Bay of Bengal.

This view is off tangent because of the mention of Kush.

“The name of the second river is Gichon; that is the one that encompasses all the land of Cush.”

The land of Cush is typically associated with Ethiopia, and the Gichon is therefore understood to refer to the Blue Nile. The Blue Nile begins in Lake Tana in Ethiopia and meets the White Nile in Khartoum, Sudan, where together they form one river that flows all the way to Egypt.

So, where Is the Garden of Eden?

If these four rivers all flow forth from the Garden of Eden, their identification should give us some clue as to the whereabouts of the Garden.

The problem is, however, that there is no central location from which all of these four rivers flow in the Middle East. The Euphrates and the Tigris are in the northeast region, whereas the two Nile rivers are in the southwest, very far apart, and not one source anyway.

While the exact location of the Garden of Eden cannot be identified in the Middle East, we can infer that it is somewhere within Africa region, between the Zambezi River and the Limpompo River.

There are four major rivers in Africa, with one source, which is the Congo Basin, namely, the Nile, Niger, Congo, and Limpompo. The Zambezi, Luapula, Chambeshi, Lualaba, Kafue, Great Lakes, are all linked to the Congo and Nile River systems.

Gold has been mined in Mali, South Africa and Egypt from ancient times. At one time, Musa of Mali caused a global recession when he distributed unprecedented quantities of gold all the way on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

So, the gold, and four rivers emerging from one source makes the identify the location of the Garden as being exactly somewhere around Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, not south of Jerusalem.

Furthermore, recent DNA findings, and past and present archaeological findings, collaborate the Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia location of Eden hypothesis.

The defense in Xxxtentacion’s murder trial has suggested Drake is responsible for his death

0

Lawyers for the men accused of murdering XXXTentacion have suggested that Drake had something to do with the late rapper’s killing.

Suspects Michael Boatwright, Trayvon Newsome, and Dedrick Williams are facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the deadly 2018 shooting outside a Florida motorcycle shop.

During opening statements of the trial on Tuesday, the defendants’ attorneys argued that there were others who had motives for killing the rapper including Drake.

“Before X died, he said, ‘If anybody kills me, it’s Drake,’” said Mauricio Padilla, Williams’ attorney. “Do you think sitting here years later, any detective has ever asked Drake or anybody like that? No.”

XXXTentacion once said on social media that if he ever ended up dead, Drake was the reason.

“IF ANYBODY TRIES TO KILL ME IT WAS @champagnepapi IM SNITCHING RN,” X wrote in an Instagram Story.

The two had a history of beef, with X accusing Drake of stealing his flow. “I’m not the first nia he bit, nor will i be the last, drake a pussy nia money don’t buy you respect,” X tweeted in February 2017, while claiming that Drake’s career was “almost over.”

Despite the far-fetched theory, prosecutors say the shooting was the result of a robbery gone wrong, and there is no evidence linking Drake to X’s murder.

XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was leaving Riva Motorsports in Fort Lauderdale on June 18, 2018 when his BMW was cut off by an SUV. Two masked gunmen emerged and demanded his money before one shot him. They fled with $50,000 in cash that X had in a Louis Vuitton bag. The 20-year-old rapper died at the hospital shortly after.

If convicted of first-degree murder, all three suspects face life in prison. They are also charged with armed robbery. A fourth man, Robert Allen, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year and is expected to testify against the other three.

China’s huge investments in countries, a front for debt trap diplomacy: Report

0

BEIJING- (ANI): China has massively invested in over 150 countries majority of them being underdeveloped nations which portrays it as a Good Samaritan.

But this infrastructural investment gradually increases the debt of poor countries beyond repayment. This puts them in a phase of default ultimately compelling them to make strategic concessions to China, report the Hong Kong Post.

The latest of these patterns was seen in Sri Lanka, which as quoted by the report is neck-deep in debt to China, amounting to approximately USD 6.8 billion. China’s Export-Import Bank (EXIM) funded for construction of the ‘Hambantota International Port’ and the ‘Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport’ in Sri Lanka.

In Argentina, a CCCC subsidiary the Shanghai Dredging Company submitted a bid in 2019 to take over the dredging of the Parana River. Dredging is the removal of sediments and debris from the bottom of lakes, rivers and other water bodies where natural sedimentation could gradually fill and clog the waterways.

The report claimed that the Chinese state-owned conglomerate ‘Cofco’ being the country’s largest commodities export broker, Beijing’s efforts to invest across international agricultural supply chains demonstrate its dark desire to control commodity supply and pricing.

However, lights were not installed from the time of commencement of use, which led to accidents and a degree of insecurity on the road at night. EGIS claimed that operations and interest rates were impacted by UNRA’s failure to make maintenance payments on schedule. Although a formal report by the URNA clarified that CCCC had engaged in wrongdoing and demanded that CCCC fixes the damages within a grace period of three months.

Later that year, CCCC dealt with numerous claims of fraud and corruption, including the claim that it sent USD19 million to Teodorin Obiang, the President of Equatorial Guinea, as disclosed by a 2013 asset forfeiture action brought by the United States. The CCCC has also been charged with gross financial malpractices, bribery and illegal employment over the past decades.

This was after China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was administratively controlled by Pakistan’s Maritime Secretary and operationally controlled by China Overseas Port Holding, a subsidiary of CCCC. This cooperation is based on the ‘Special Economic Zones of China’ with 91 per cent of the Gwadar Port’s revenue going to China and 9 per cent to Pakistan.

Christian Atsu: Ghana player still missing after Turkey earthquake – agent

0

Christian Atsu’s agent says the footballer’s whereabouts are unknown, a day after it was reported he was pulled from the rubble of a building “with injuries” after the Turkey earthquakes.

More than 11,000 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria are now known to have been killed.

Ghana forward Atsu plays for Hatayspor and the club’s vice-president Mustafa Özat had said the player was rescued.

“We are doing everything we can to locate Christian,” said Nana Sechere.

“As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family.”

In a social media post, the agent added: “Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.”

Hatayspor manager Volkan Demirel told Turkish sport website Spor Arena there was “no news yet” on either Atsu or sporting director Taner Savut, who was reported missing on Monday along with the player.

Savut’s location and condition is currently unknown.

“If they were in hospital, don’t you think I would share this? Please don’t be sure that he survived. This should not be written as he survived,” he said.

Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, told radio station Joy FM there was “confusion” as to where Atsu had been sent.

“Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here informed me that they wanted to confirm if Christian Atsu had been found and rescued, and sent to a medical centre,” she said.

“However, in all the confusion – which is understandable under the circumstances [as you are rescued you are put in an ambulance and sent to the hospital] – they are not sure yet which particular hospital or health facility he has been sent to.

“This morning again, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured me they are working feverishly to find out which facility he was sent to and will get back to me as soon as possible because I have been on them that I need to go and see him.”

Atsu, 31, played 107 games for Newcastle and had spells with Chelsea, Everton and Bournemouth.

He has won 65 caps for Ghana and joined Hatayspor in September after a season with Saudi Arabian team Al-Raed.

Slamming ‘big formula milk companies’, WHO scientist calls for swift clampdown to protect nursing mothers

0

“This new research highlights the vast economic and political power of the big formula milk companies, as well as serious public policy failures that prevent millions of women from breastfeeding their children,” said Nigel Rollins, one of the authors of a series on the $55 billion-a-year industry and their marketing “playbooks”, published in the peer-reviewed medical journal The Lancet.

“Actions are needed across different areas of society to better support mothers to breastfeed for as long as they want, alongside efforts to tackle exploitative formula milk marketing once and for all,” he added.

650 million lack ‘maternity protection’

The three-paper series recommends much greater support for breastfeeding within healthcare and social protection systems, including guaranteeing sufficient paid maternity leave.

Currently, around 650 million women lack adequate maternity protections, the papers noted.

Written by a group of doctors and scientists, the series examines how formula marketing tactics undermine breastfeeding and target parents, health professionals and politicians, and how feeding practices, women’s rights and health outcomes, are determined by power imbalances and political and economic structures.

“Breastfeeding is not the sole responsibility of women and requires collective societal approaches that take gender inequities into consideration,” the authors wrote. Indeed, reviews from 2016 to 2021 and country-based case studies indicate that breastfeeding practices can be improved rapidly through multi-level and multi-component interventions.

Dairy lobbyists’ misleading claims

The World Health Assembly has already addressed the decades-long challenge of questionable marketing practices among infant formula producers. In 1981, it developed the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, following an investigative report on Nestle’s targeted marketing in low and middle-income countries in the 1970s.

The new series stated that misleading marketing claims and strategic lobbying from the dairy and formula milk industries add to the challenges parents face.

Such claims as suggesting that formula alleviates fussiness, can help with colic, and prolongs nighttime sleep, are only increasing parents’ anxiety, the papers stated.

Linda Richter, of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and series co-author, said the formula milk industry uses “poor science” to suggest, with little supporting evidence, that their products are “solutions to common infant health and developmental challenges”.

This marketing technique “clearly violates the 1981 Code, which says labels should not idealize the use of formula to sell more product,” she added.

Breastfeeding’s immense benefits

WHO recommends exclusively breastfeeding infants for at least six months. The practice provides immense benefits to babies and young children, from reducing infection risks to lowering rates of obesity and chronic diseases later in life.

However, globally, only around half of newborns are put to the breast within the first hour of life.

Corporations exploit lack of support

At a time when less than half of newborns are breastfed, as per WHO guidelines, the series explains how the industry’s marketing exploits the lack of support for the practice by governments and society.

The tactics also misuse gender politics to sell its products, framing breastfeeding advocacy as a “moralistic judgment” while presenting milk formula as a “convenient and empowering solution” for working mothers, the authors found.

Politicizing breastmilk

Drawing attention to the power of the milk formula industry to influence national political decisions, the series stated that the companies also interfere with international regulatory processes. For instance, the dairy and formula milk industries have established a network of unaccountable trade associations that lobby against policy measures to protect breastfeeding or control the quality of infant formula.

In the face of those pressures on parents, the series’ authors made several recommendations; among them was a need for broader actions across workplaces, healthcare, governments, and communities, to effectively support women who want to breastfeed. They also called for formal recognition of the contribution of women’s unpaid care work to national development.

Set of recommendations

Series co-author Rafael Pérez-Escamilla, of the Yale School of Public Health, highlighted other critical steps.

“Given the immense benefits of breastfeeding to their families and national development, women who wish to breastfeed need to be much better supported so that they can meet their breastfeeding goals,” he said.

“A large expansion in health professional training on breastfeeding, as well as statutory paid maternity leave and other protections are vital.”

Turkey leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan admits ‘shortcomings’ as quake toll hits 11,700

0

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday conceded “shortcomings” after criticism of his government’s response to the massive earthquake that killed over 11,700 people in Turkey and Syria.

The sprawling scale of the disaster that flattened thousands of buildings, trapping an unknown number of people, has swamped relief operations already hampered by freezing weather.

Survivors have been left to scramble for food and shelter — and in some cases watch helplessly as their relatives called for rescue, and eventually went silent under the debris.

“My nephew, my sister-in-law and my sister-in-law’s sister are in the ruins. They are trapped under the ruins and there is no sign of life,” said Semire Coban, a kindergarten teacher, in Turkey’s Hatay.

“We can’t reach them. We are trying to talk to them, but they are not responding… We are waiting for help. It has been 48 hours now,” she said.

Still, searchers kept pulling survivors from the debris three days after the 7.8 magnitude quake that is already one of the deadliest this century, even as the death toll continues to rise.

As criticism mounted online, Erdogan visited one of the hardest-hit spots, quake epicentre Kahramanmaras, and acknowledged problems in the response.

“Of course, there are shortcomings. The conditions are clear to see. It’s not possible to be ready for a disaster like this,” he said.

Twitter was also not working on Turkish mobile networks, according to AFP journalists and NetBlocks web monitoring group.

– Children saved –

The window for rescuers to find survivors is narrowing as the effort nears the 72-hour mark that disaster experts consider the most likely period to save lives.

Yet on Wednesday, rescuers pulled children from under a collapsed building in the hard-hit Turkish province of Hatay, where whole stretches of towns have been levelled.

“All of a sudden we heard voices and thanks to the excavator… immediately we heard the voices of three people at the same time,” said rescuer Alperen Cetinkaya.

“We are expecting more of them… the chances of getting people out of here alive are very high,” he added.

Officials and medics said 9,057 people had died in Turkey and 2,662 in Syria from Monday’s 7.8-magnitude tremor, bringing the total to 11,719 — but that could yet double if the worst fears of experts are realised.

The World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned that time was running out for the thousands injured and those still feared trapped.

– ‘People dying every second’ –

Due to the scale of the damage and the lack of help coming to certain areas, survivors said they felt alone in responding to the disaster.

“Even the buildings that haven’t collapsed were severely damaged. There are now more people under the rubble than those above it,” a resident named Hassan, who did not provide his full name, said in the rebel-held town of Jindayris.

“There are around 400-500 people trapped under each collapsed building, with only 10 people trying to pull them out. And there is no machinery,” he added.

The White Helmets, leading efforts to rescue people buried under rubble in rebel-held areas of Syria, have appealed for international help in their “race against time”.

They have been toiling since the quake to pull survivors out from under the debris of dozens of flattened buildings in northwestern areas of war-torn Syria that remain outside the government’s control.

“International rescue teams must come into our region,” said Mohammed Shibli, a spokesperson for the group known formally as the Syria Civil Defence.

“People are dying every second; we are in a race against time,” he told AFP from neighbouring Turkey.

– Syria appeals for EU help –

The issue of aid to Syria was a delicate one, and the sanctioned government in Damascus made an official plea to the EU for help, the bloc’s commissioner for crisis management Janez Lenarcic said.

A decade of civil war and Syrian-Russian aerial bombardment had already destroyed hospitals, collapsed the economy and prompted electricity, fuel and water shortages.

The European Commission is “encouraging” EU member countries to respond to Syria’s request for medical supplies and food, while monitoring to ensure that any aid “is not diverted” by President Bashar al-Assad’s government, Lenarcic noted.

Dozens of nations, including the United States, China and the Gulf States have pledged to help, and search teams as well as relief supplies have already arrived.

A winter storm has compounded the misery by rendering many roads — some of them damaged by the quake — almost impassable, resulting in traffic jams that stretch for kilometres in some regions.

The European Union was swift to dispatch rescue teams to Turkey after the massive earthquake struck the country on Monday close to the border with Syria.

But it initially offered only minimal assistance to Syria through existing humanitarian programmes, because of EU sanctions imposed since 2011 on Assad’s government over its brutal crackdown on protesters that spiralled into a civil war.

The Turkey-Syria border is one of the world’s most active earthquake zones.

Monday’s earthquake was the largest Turkey has seen since 1939, when 33,000 people died in the eastern Erzincan province.

In 1999, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake killed more than 17,000.

Give us jets to secure our freedom, Volodymyr Zelensky urges UK

0

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged the UK to provide his country with fighter jets as he addressed Parliament during his first UK visit since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In an impassioned plea, he likened combat aircraft to “wings for freedom”.

His call comes as the UK announced it will begin training Ukrainian forces to fly Nato-standard fighter jets.

President Zelensky concluded his speech with the hope that he would soon be thanking the UK for providing planes.

Later, Downing Street said that Mr Sunak has asked the defence secretary to investigate what jets the UK could potentially give to Ukraine, but emphasised it was “a long-term solution”.

Addressing a huge crowd of MPs and peers in the historic setting of Westminster Hall, President Zelensky said: “Freedom will win – we know Russia will lose,” adding the UK was with his country on a march to “the most important victory of our lifetime”.

Thanking the UK for its “grit”, he said the country, through its support of Ukraine, had not compromised the “spirit and ideals of these great islands”.

He also singled out Boris Johnson for praise saying the former prime minister had united others “when it seemed impossible”.

During his speech, which was met throughout with applause, the Ukrainian leader gave the House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle the helmet of a Ukrainian pilot.

The writing on the helmet reads: “We have freedom, give us wings to protect it.”

Reflecting on his last visit to the UK, he recalled thanking his hosts “for delicious English tea”.

“I will be leaving Parliament today, thanking you all in advance for powerful English planes.”

Mr Johnson echoed his calls in a statement saying: “It is time to give the Ukrainians the extra equipment they need to defeat Putin and to restore peace to Ukraine. That means longer range missiles and artillery, it means more tanks, it means planes.”

BBC defence correspondent Jonathan Beale says that while the president gave an impassioned plea for Britain to give Ukraine fast jets, it still doesn’t look likely that he’ll get them, at least for now.

He says that it is still possible that a few Western nations could provide a small number of modern fighter jets to Ukraine at some time in the future, and that while Kyiv has made clear it would like US made F-16s, which are operated by a number of Nato countries, so far US President Joe Biden has said no.

As the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches, the UK has announced that its training of Ukrainian forces will be expanded to cover marines, as well as Nato-standard fighter jet pilots.

Western countries have been considering how to bolster support for Ukraine, with the country braced for a renewed Russian offensive later this month.

The expansion of the UK’s training programme signals a shift, after the UK said it was “not practical” for it to send its aircraft to Ukraine.

Earlier this year, the UK also announced it would send 14 battle tanks to Ukraine. President Zelensky praised Mr Sunak for taking this “powerful defensive step”.

In his address, he also urged the UK and the West to continue imposing sanctions “until Russia is deprived of any possibility to finance the war”.

“Anyone who invests in terror must be held accountable, anyone who invests in violence must compensate those who have suffered from terror.”

On Wednesday, the UK announced a fresh round of sanctions targeting Russia.

The latest sanctions target IT companies, as well as manufacturers of military equipment such as drones and helicopter parts.

Before speaking to Parliament, President Zelensky held talks with Mr Sunak in Downing Street, and has met King Charles.

He is now expected to join the prime minister on a visit to the south-west where Ukrainian troops are training to use Challenger 2 tanks.

The two men will sign the London Declaration – a statement affirming the UK-Ukraine partnership – before holding a joint press conference.

Later, he is expected to meet French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

IG’S THREE STARS- Dr. Fred M’membe

IG’S THREE STARS

By Dr. Fred M’membe, President of the Socialist Party

Over the past week, I have read many opinions or arguments concerning the three stars of a Lieutenant General’s put on the Inspector General of Police’s official motor vehicle.

I have no intention or desire to prolong this debate. If anything, I would like it to come to a close.

But before I do this, I want to make it very clear that there is no profession that is not important. A soldier or military officer is no more important than a policeman (woman) or officer. But their roles are different – they are different professions with different traditions, customs and values.

Let’s leave military traditions, customs and values to the Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service – military institutions. And let the Police be Police – a civilian institution with its own traditions, customs and values.

My plea is to the President of the Republic of Zambia, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of all our armed forces, to order the Inspector General of Police to remove those three stars and revert to the usual police tradition of ZP1.

Allowing the three stars is to condone anarchy with no end or limits. This is not a contest between the Police (civilian) and the Army, Air Force and ZNS (military). It’s just a matter of doing things the right way. And let’s do them the right way, even if it calls for our greatest efforts.

I also urge the Commander-in-Chief to elevate the Army Commander from the rank of Lt Gen to General. It will smoothen the command structure of our armed forces. And in future, we should consider making the ZNS Commandant a Maj Gen, and not Lt Gen. The ZAF Commander can remain a Lt Gen.

Military life is highly based on traditions, customs and values. Some of these are customs and courtesies. But, what are customs and courtesies? Customs are established practices, and courtesies could be defined as good manners and politeness. Every civilised army should have a regulation – “Salutes, Honours and Courtesy” that “provides general policies and procedures for the rendition of salutes, honours, ceremonies, customs, and visits of courtesy”. For example, the mandatory hand salute between officers and enlisted personnel of the armed forces.

What were the origins of the hand salute? Actually, we don’t know. There are some theories for this action. Some say that Roman Empire soldiers used to slap their chest and raise their right hand as a symbol of respect and to show that they were unarmed. Another theory points to the Middle Ages, when knights raised the cover of their helmets to identify themselves as friendly. In the 1600s, the British started to salute with their hats, raising them to show respect to officials. Although these are some theories, there is no exact date for the birth of the hand salute.

However, armed forces adopted the salute as a necessary requirement for soldiers. Although, some of the ranks, ceremonies and personnel do not demand a hand salute, a soldier must always display good manners. These are some of the customs and traditions armed forces all over the world have adopted:

(i) Never offer excuses.
(ii) Never go over your superiors, use your chain of command.
(iii) Never turn and walk away to avoid giving the hand salute, among others.

Customs and courtesies are key for a cohesive relationship in the armed forces. Furthermore, all of these beliefs have a set of values that cement the course of action that a soldier takes in the course of his daily life. The hand salute is more than a simple “greeting”, it is a symbol of respect, honour and integrity.

When a soldier salutes a high-ranking officer, he or she is not saluting the individual but showing respect to the rank. On the other hand, the Army has a set of ranks and positions that do not require a hand salute, but proper manners and courtesies are highly recommended. For example, the non-commissioned officer (NCO) does not require a hand salute, but proper courtesies are always expected.

Without a doubt, our armed forces have a very strict mission and vision for the new soldier. They need to have professionals in all their departments and above all, soldiers with values. When soldiers salute or greet their comrades, they are living up to the general military core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honour, integrity and personal courage. Values define who you are as a military person, they go hand in hand with the customs and courtesies of the military.

Without a doubt, leadership is very important to the implementation of customs and courtesies in the military. Being a leader is a dynamic process. More than words, it is to take action. Leaders have to set an example and be proactive with their soldiers so they can be educated and moulded to their customs and courtesies. The military has a set of values that are not negotiable and cannot be broken. These are the foundations to continue their customs and courtesies.
Therefore, leadership should be the foundation and example to apply all the customs and courtesies of our military. We have to build them up, not crash them down.

What should our leaders – political, military and otherwise – do as leaders to apply these customs and courtesies as a good culture in our military? Our leaders must have patience, trust and respect with our military personnel. This goes all the way from the top to the bottom, so we can get in line.

Let’s not act based on emotions, but as effective stewards of the profession. Military customs and courtesies are the foundation of our military. There’s a general decline in adherence to military traditions and customs, and this comes out clearly at military parades, state funerals and other military ceremonies.

I urge our military leaders, both officers and NCOs, to pay greater attention to this decay or erosion, and reverse it.

ABOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT VS HARASSMENT: A CASE OF HON. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI- Sean Tembo

ABOUT LAW ENFORCEMENT VS HARASSMENT: A CASE OF HON. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. For someone with-whom we suffered together under the hands of the previous PF regime, President Hakainde Hichilema is a huge disappointment when it comes to abuse of Police powers. In fact the abuse of prosecutorial powers that we saw under the PF regime is slowly beginning to pale in comparison to what we are seeing today. Whereas the PF were conscious to public criticism and would self-regulate sometimes, President Hakainde Hichilema appears to be too drunk with authority that he is unlikely to climb down his high horse anytime soon.

2. Indeed, as a former police officer, l can tell you that there is a distinct difference between law enforcement and harassment of citizens. What is happening to Hon. Chishimba Kambwili is very far from ordinary law enforcement. It is an act of State-sponsored terrorism against a bonafide citizen that is engineered by a President that has nothing tangible to offer to the masses of this nation other than to flex his presidential powers.

3. Chishimba Kambwili was charged with unlawful assembly, which is a misdemeanor under the penal code, and has the option of paying an admission of guilty fine of K54. So why send an entire contingent of armed Police Officers to break into Kambwili’s house as if he had committed a felony when it is only a misdemeanor? I know that in President Hakainde Hichilema’s shallow mind, simply because Police Officers had stormed his house when he was accused of treason during the PF regime, he is under the illusion that he can now send Police Officers to storm any Opposition Leader’s house.

4. Well, Mr. President sir, the amount of force used by the Police to apprehend a suspect is dependent upon the gravity of the alleged offence. For a misdemeanor like unlawful assembly or hate speech, just a Police Call Out will suffice, and there is no need of sending armed Police to storm the suspect’s house in the middle of the night. Such force is only necessary if the suspect is accused of committing a serious felony such as murder, aggravated robbery, treason etcetera.

5. I remember vividly that during the time when Mr. Hichilema was in opposition, he made the argument that police should have sent him a Call Out when he was accused of treason. Well, for serious felony offences such as murder, aggravated robbery, treason etcetera, the Police are in order to storm a suspect’s house in the middle of the night. Even myself, the day you accuse me of a serious felony, l will not complain if you storm my house.

6. But it is absolute nonsense for you Mr. President sir, to send Flying Squad Police Officers to apprehend Mr. Chilufya Tayali at his house in the middle of the night, and teargas his children and wife, over an alleged misdemeanor of hate speech which has an option of an admission of guilty fine of K54. Just like it was also absolute nonsense for you to send a contingent of armed Police Officers to storm Hon. Chishimba Kambwili’s house over the weekend, when he had clearly indicated that he will avail himself to the police on Monday.

7. Mr. President sir, it is high time that you surround yourself with competent advisors who will not make you appear like a tinpot dictator in the eyes of the international community. You may wish to be reminded that even this relationship that you appear to be enjoying with the Americans and other western nations may soon be compromised if you continue to abuse the authority of your office. If you have a lot of energy, please use that energy to improve the well-being of the Zambian people, and not to harass political opponents.

8. Mr. President sir, just like other Presidents before you, your time in office will come to an end at one point or the other. When that time comes, you and your family will need to live in this country as ordinary citizens. So let us not create an environment which will compel the regime that will come after you leave office to want to persecute you, and prevent you from enjoying your retirement. We are not saying that opposition leaders should be above the law, no. All that we are saying is for you to treat opposition leaders fairly whenever they are accused of breaking the law, so that you too may be treated fairly when your time comes. Otherwise the way you have been treating opposition leaders of late is total nonsense, Mr. President sir.

In this country we think food is nshima – FRA chairman Kelvin Hambwezya

In this country we think food is nshima – Hambwezya

Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

IN THIS country we have a problem because we think food is nshima and nshima is food, says Food Reserve Agency chairman Kelvin Hambwezya.
He informed the nation that the FRA and millers have “agreed” to sale breakfast mealie meal at K160 per 25 kilogramme at order price.
“In this country we have a problem because we think food is nshima and nshima is food. We should also eat other foods like rice. Rice is also good. I had visitors from the village the other day, my wife gave them rice. When I went home I greeted them in Tonga ‘kamwamba sena mwalya (hello, have you eaten)’ in Bemba you say ‘mushe namulya’ they said ‘awe tatulile mukwai bacitupelafye rice (no, we have not eaten. They just gave us rice)’. So we need to sensitise each other,” he said. “We should broaden our food base. We cannot be so narrow and just depend on nshima. We need to encourage the production of other crops like millet, rice. I know last time when people were told to eat sweet potatoes, it became political. But potatoes are very healthy. Very nutritious. Somebody talked about roller meal the other day. Me I eat mugaiwa not even roller meal. If you look at me I am quite healthy. I don’t eat breakfast.”

Hambwezya said Zambians should not continue crying about mealie meal when there are alternatives.
“When people tell you to eat roller meal, mugaiwa, they are not frowning upon you. It is actually healthy. It is nutritious. You will live long. For those of us that are diabetic, I am sure you are advised, is it not? So why do we get annoyed when we are told to eat roller meal? Why does it become political? Ask nutrition experts, they will tell you. In this country, the price of roller meal is K120. No one is talking about it. It is just breakfast, which is K160 or so. When you are told to eat roller meal…That is good food. Sweet potatoes, rice [ is food],” he said.
“We should not always be crying when there is mealie meal. So the media you have a critical role to play, not sensationalise issues but to educate the masses that we can broaden our food base in this country. And we stop depending on nshima only because we can be wiped out. With GMO (genetically modified) foods that are coming, it just takes one manipulation of the genetics of our maize and then the whole country starves to death when there are other alternatives. We should not always be crying when there is no maize.”
And Hambwezya called for a stop to reckless statements by politicians that maize was unavailable.

“I have seen some people, they wake up from slumber and say ‘there is no maize’ without facts,” he said. “And there are issues where we have got some weevil attacks in the depots. It is inevitable. When you have 12 million bags of maize, you don’t expect all that maize to be pest free,” he said. “But you see some district commissioners are screaming and saying there is a disaster here!”
Hambwezya said millers have now agreed with the FRA to supply their mealie meal through recommended prices of K160 for Lusaka and K170 for the Copperbelt at order price.

“Let us work together to ensure we stabilise meal prices and make sure this commodity is made available to our people. The public is urged to remain calm and not to start buying mealie meal in panic. There are very good millers amongst us. There are a few who are exporting maize and I think we will deal them individually,” he said. “It is immoral across all religions, whether you are Christian or Muslim or Hindu. There is no religion which encourages immorality.”

He said millers should work closely with government in the next eight weeks to ensure stability and normalisation of the situation.
Millers that affirmed the agreement were Roan Antelope Milling, African Milling, National Milling, FBG Milling and Nkana Milling
Hambwezya said FRA had commenced distribution of relief to districts that have experienced floods.
FRA is currently selling subsidised maize at K4,000 to millers instead of K5,300 per tonne to cushion the high mealie meal prices that has hit the country.

Press Statement By The Chief Govt Spokesperson On The Decisions Made By Cabinet At The 2nd Cabinet Meeting Held On Monday, 6th February, 2023

0

The Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson, Hon. Chushi Kasanda, announced the key decisions made by the cabinet in its second meeting held on Monday, 6th February, 2023. The meeting, presided over by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, aimed to improve the general living standards of the people through enhanced service delivery.

One of the key topics discussed was the status of electricity generation and load management. The Cabinet emphasized the importance of reducing load management throughout the country to support economic growth. The restoration of the 150 Megawatts Generation Unit at Maamba Collieries Limited and the 10 Megawatts unit at Victoria Falls Power Station was appreciated, and efforts are underway to commission the 750 Megawatts Unit No. 5 at Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro Power Station by the end of March 2023. The Cabinet also indicated the need for the country to focus on renewable energy sources as a priority for resolving the electricity challenges.

The supply of fuel was another crucial issue addressed at the meeting. To enhance the security of supply, the Cabinet discussed the implementation of a private sector-led Bulk Petroleum Supply system.

The Cabinet also agreed on the Roadmap leading to the enactment of the Access to Information Bill by June 2023. Adequate consultations with all stakeholders will be undertaken to ensure the law is enacted to enhance access to public information and support efforts towards the rational utilization of public resources. The Bill is expected to also play a role in the current administration’s fight against corruption.

Cabinet also decided to host the Joint 19th International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) and 3rd International Statistical Institute Regional Statistics (ISI RS) Conference from 4th to 6th April, 2023 in Livingstone. The conference is expected to be attended by over 400 international delegates, making it a landmark event for Zambia and Africa as a whole. The conference will demonstrate Zambia’s commitment to opening up to the global world and promoting tourism in the country.

The other decision was the approval of the hosting of the Vision Zero International Conference, which will be held in Livingstone from 7th to 8th September, 2023. The conference aims to raise awareness on occupational safety and health and foster coordination among member countries to promote workplace safety, health, wellbeing, and decent work. The decision reflects Zambia’s commitment to upholding fundamental principles and rights at work, as endorsed during the 110th International Labour Organisation Conference in Geneva, Switzerland in June, 2022.

Cabinet also approved the conferring of privileges and immunity to the East and Southern African Association of Accountants-General (ESAAG) Secretariat hosted in Lusaka, in accordance with the Diplomatic Immunities and Privileges Act, Chapter 20 of the Laws of Zambia. This reaffirms Zambia’s commitment to the Association and ensures a conducive environment for the ESAAG technical staff to carry out their duties as prescribed in the Host Agreement.

The cabinet approved the appointment of a seven-member Board of Trustees for the GRZ Funeral Assistance Scheme Committee to enhance good governance in the management of the Scheme on behalf of public service employees. The compulsory Funeral Assistance Scheme was launched in 2016 to provide sustainable livelihoods for families of public servants following the death of a family member. The appointment of the Board of Trustees will ensure effective operations of the Scheme.

These decisions made at the 2nd Cabinet Meeting demonstrate the commitment of the government to improve the lives of the people and support the country’s economic growth.

Hon. Chushi Kasanda, Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson, stated that the government is fully committed to these decisions and the implementation of these initiatives in the coming months.

President Hichilema Fires Audit and Accounting Staff at Ministry of Finance and National Audit Office

● Fires both Deputy Auditor General.
● Fires Accountant General

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Another purge!

It’s matters like this that should concern the nation. In the midst of a comprehensive government audit of books of 2021 and 2022, President Hakainde Hichilema has purged staff involved in both internal and external audit of government funds.

Recently, Mnister of Finance, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane appointed Grant Thornton, PriceWaterHouse, Ernst &Young and others to audit the domestic debt and arreas.

An uproar emerged when some of these private entities were sent to the Defence and National Security offices to audit, despite the law forbiding such an exercise to be done by the private sector.

Now he has purged the staff that do government and state owned enterprises…does he want his own men, compliant officers that will hide information? What’s the purpose of these dismissals?

Antonio Mwanza Slams UPND Govt as “Punka” and Ineffective in Addressing Citizen’s Woes

Patriotic Front Media Director Antonio Mourinho Mwanza criticized the current government, saying that “Zambians have seen that the UPND government has failed” and “people are looking out to the PF to put its house in order.” In an interview on UNZA radio, he stated, “The people of Zambia are making comparisons. And they are looking at how life was during PF and how life is today… they are saying namutwipaya, ubunga, fuelo, fataleza, the cost of living. People have seen that what we have today is a punka government. A government of liars. A group of people that do not have any plan for the people of Zambia.”

Mwanza also expressed disappointment with the current situation in Zambia, pointing to the high cost of essential commodities such as mealie meal and fuel. He stated, “Today roller meal has reached K186 in certain places. And today breakfast has reached over K220 in certain places… you have a government that mocks those that cannot afford to buy mealie meal. You have a government that mocks those that cannot afford to have money for a bus fare.”

Mwanza accused the UPND of coming into power through lies, saying, “Unlike the PF, UPND came into power using lies… these are people who said mukativotela fuel muzayamba kugula pa K12. People are seeing. They said when you vote for us, farmers will be getting 8 bags of fertilizer, per farmer. Today we have situations where people have to share eight bags, 100 farmers in a cooperative.”

Regarding Vice President Mrs Mutale Nalumango’s comments on the mealie meal prices, Mwanza said, “And instead of telling people what the reality is, and sympathizing and empathizing with the people, they are mocking us. Ba mayo ba Nalumango, abakashi baba Bishop, balechita mock abantu, people are suffering. Ati if you can’t manage to buy breakfast buy roller meal, as if roller meal is cheap.”

Mwanza concluded by saying, “People are comparing how these things were being done during the Patriotic Front and how it is happening now. People are seeing that when you talk about mealie meal, they told us bazayamba kutigulisa unga pa K5 per 25kg. Today unga wafika over K200… And people are making comparisons.”

Miles’ suspension was very lenient – Chilangwa

By Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

ACTING PF secretary general Nickson Chilangwa says party presidential hopeful Miles Sampa has become a champion for UPND.

Speaking when he appeared on Millennium TV on Friday, Chilangwa said the suspension of Sampa from the central committee for bringing the name of the party into disrupt was in fact lenient.

Sampa was last week suspended from the party’s central committee for issuing what the party said were remarks in bad taste against the PF and its former ministers

“The suspension of honourable Miles Sampa was very lenient. He has not been expelled from the party. He has not been expelled from the central committee. He was given time to go and reflect. He brought the name of the party into disrepute. Go through hon Sampa’s speech and what he said. There are certain things you cannot do especially if I am in the central committee,” he said. “Bringing the party into disrepute when you go onto a platform and castigate others and you even become the champion of the UPND. He said ‘I am daring all those who were ministers.’ I was a minister, I told him ‘dare me. Tell me which contracts I got’. I never got a contract’ so he was casting aspersions and if you read through that line of presentation, it is not different from the way the UPND have been casting aspersions on our colleagues.”

Chilangwa said the PF would not tolerate indiscipline in the party by any official or mere members.

“If you have issues bring them in the central committee if you are a member of the central committee. If you are a real member of the party, bring the issues and discuss the issues within the confines of the house. You cannot have your husband going or a wife instead of dealing with issues in the house, going to sit on the rooftop of the house to start screaming. That is lack of regard,” said Chilangwa. “You must atone for your sins. You must atone for what you did.”

US Under Secretary’s Visit to Africa Mining Indaba a Bid for Control Over Critical Minerals- Dr. Fred M’membe

The President of the Socialist Party in Zambia, Dr. Fred M’membe, has issued a press statement regarding the visit of the US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Jose W. Fernandez, to Cape Town, South Africa. The Under Secretary is visiting Cape Town to deliver a keynote address at the Investing in Africa Mining Indaba, which is Africa’s largest mining investment conference.

In the press statement, Dr. M’membe stated, “Our view is that this is not a visit of solidarity with African peoples but one of trying to gain total control, monopoly, over Africa’s critical minerals to the exclusion or marginalization of others like China, Russia, and India.” The statement went on to explain that the US wants to have monopoly over the entire value chain of Africa’s critical minerals and counter China’s growing presence on the African continent.

Dr. M’membe went on to say, “The visit of the US Under Secretary just shows how desperate the USA is when it comes to securing Africa’s critical mineral resources. For some time, the USA was preoccupied with the Middle East to secure oil for its economy. Now, with the movement by many countries towards electric vehicles, the USA is desperate to have a grip on Africa’s critical mineral resources.” The statement pointed out that the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the USA, Congo, and Zambia is just one of the instruments put in place by the US to ensure its dominance.

In addition, Dr. M’membe believes that the US is using the Mining Indaba as an opportunity to provide political, moral, and business support for its mining transnational corporations on the African continent. He stated, “The visit is also a desperate attempt to pressure South Africa – a BRICS member – to avoid Russia and China. The three BRICS nations are scheduled to hold joint military drills off the coast of Durban from February 24. The USA has not hidden its displeasure and this visit may be used to further exert pressure on South Africa.”

Dr. M’membe’s press statement reflects a view that the visit of the US Under Secretary is not driven by a desire to support African peoples but rather a bid to gain control over Africa’s critical mineral resources. The statement suggests that the US wants to have a greater input and influence over the mining agenda in Africa and counter China’s growing presence on the African continent.

There’ll never be true change of government – Nakacinda

There’ll never be true change of government – Nakacinda

By Walusungu Lundu in Chongola

WHILE some sections of society share a view that PF is dead and buried, the party national information and publicity chairman Raphael Nakacinda continues expressing optimism that there is a chance of bouncing back into government.

He acknowledged that there must be some things that the party did wrong prior to the 2021 elections that resulted to their loss.
“One of the greatest sources of wisdom is experience. Many people that are effective in any discipline is people who may have failed before. If you talk of sportsmen, they’ll tell you that some of the greatest strikers are those who may have failed sometimes in the past,” he said when he featured on Kokoliko Radio in Chingola on Saturday. “We may have one or two mix ups when we were in government but I can tell you we knew what we were doing but possibly omitted one or two things. And those omissions we only came to fully appreciate them when we were out of government. Given an opportunity to get back into government I can tell you, we can perform better.”
Nakacinda said Zambia would never develop and mature if all that is inculcated in citizens is opportunism.

“If UNIP managed to reorganise, maybe they would have bounced back into power after MMD. There was going to be a clear distinction of ideologies in terms of UNIP in contrast to MMD. But what happened is that because UNIP was mismanaged, all those that were in UNIP joined the MMD. The moment they saw signs that MMD was heading a bad direction, most of those in MMD we joined PF,” he said. “What we are advocating for, there will never be true change of government. Many of those in UPND they are from UNIP, MMD and some PF people. So what change is there? But those of us who have remained resilient in Patriotic Front, by God’s grace and the support of Zambians, if we succeed to reorganise ourselves and form government, the UPND will also learn something that our friends didn’t despair when they lost. They reorganised themselves. Moving forward, people will not be joining political parties because its greener. They will be joining political parties because they believe in the ideologies of that political party.”

Nakacinda said PF would never have to guess on how to lead Zambians if voted back into power.
He accused President Hakainde Hichilema of running government like his private company.
“Today, there is no clear change. You were complaining about cadres in PF, those cadres most of them, like the UPND suggest, they have very violent cadres…the violence now is more devastating in the UPND. PF, we should be encouraged to reorganise ourselves, resharpen our policies, ideologies, manifesto. We can never start guessing. What’s been a challenge to President Hakainde Hichilema is he has never really been in government. All his life he has just been practicing business and so on. So when he became President he has been running government like it is his private company,” he said.

Nakacinda advised the President to listen to his advisers.
“First advice I can give is that Zambia is not a farm. It’s not a business. Two, those that you appointed as advisers, if you really believe in them as competent advisers, listen to them. Not a situation where you are the one advising your advisers. That’s how come you’re making mistakes every other day. We had a cabinet where when former president Edgar Lungu comes, it was only opening remarks. Then he says Hon [Alexander] Chiteme can you do your presentation. We would all agree on one point,” said Nakacinda. “There was nothing like you’re out of the cabinet then you say something contrary to what was agreed upon. Not this government where the President says there’s is load shedding because Kariba Dam is leaking. CEO comes and says something else! The contradictory statements from this government shows that they have failed. There is no Shoprite for PF or for UPND. We all go to the same market. So when prices of mealie meal escalate, we all feel the effects. So we should not start mocking each other.”

Weaponising Police As An Instrument Of Political Mobilisation Against Opposition Unacceptable- Dr. Chilufya

WEAPONISING POLICE AS AN INSTRUMENT OF POLITICAL MOBILISATION AGAINST OPPOSITION UNACCEPTABLE- DR. CHILUFYA

…says UPND and their police seem incapable of appreciating political diversity and therefore sees Kambwili and other opposition leaders as enemies.

LUSAKA—- Tuesday February 7th 2023

SMART EAGLES

The Patriotic Front PF Presidential Candidate Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has urged government to stop weaponizing the police against opposition political parties.

Dr. Chilufya says weaponizing the police as an instrument of political mobilization against the opposition is totally unacceptable in a free and democratic society.

“To weaponize the police as an instrument of political mobilisation against the opposition is totally unacceptable in a free and democratic society.” He said .

Dr. Chilufya was speaking to Smart Eagles shortly after the release of Dr. Kambwili who had been incarcerated for unlawful assembly.

And Dr. Chilufya has described Dr. Kambwili’s detention and subjecting him to trauma as an act of toture which cannot be accepted in a free and democratic society.

He shared the view that conversations that he had with his supporters at his home last week could not be mischaractarized as a crime .

“The detention of Chishimba Kambwili and further subjecting him to trauma is an act of torture that we cannot accept in a free and democratic society.
Free speech, as we saw in his conversations with a small crowd of supporters at his home last week, cannot be mischaracterised as a crime.” He said .

He has urged government to excercise tolerance by respecting divergent views.

“The defining character of every democracy is TOLERANCE of one another’s divergent views. Democracy and the subsequent political pluralism it births, entails just that– that we are opponents and not enemies.” He said

He emphasized that those who couldn’t accept and respect divergent views in a democratic space ought to stay away from politics.

“Democratic societies are noisy places and this is an inherent characteristic of every democracy. Those who can’t stand the noise that occurs as a byproduct of the interplay of different ideas in the political space must keep out of politics, at least out of our Democratic politics.” He added .

He expressed worry that the UPND government were incapable of appreciating diversity of views thereby looking at the opposition as enemies.

“Democracy (and good governance) is sum total of different ideas from different formations and here we see that the UPND and their police seem incapable of appreciating this diversity and therefore sees Kambwili and other opposition leaders as enemies.

And speaking earlier Dr. Chilufya called on police to release Dr. Kambwili unconditionally, and stop thrusting poisonous snakes in his police cell.

“Release Kambwili noisy now and stop torturing him by thrusting poisonous serpents in his small filthy cell.” He said .

Dr. Kambwili has since been released on police bond and will appear in court soon .
And speaking after his release Dr. Kambwili lamented that be did not understand why police were handling him like a common criminal.

He said it was only after being arrested when he knew that he was being subjected to a snake

THE ARREST OF IMBWILI FOR MERELY WELCOMING PEOPLE AT HIS RESIDENCE UNFORTUNATE – KALABA

THE ARREST OF IMBWILI FOR MERELY WELCOMING PEOPLE AT HIS RESIDENCE UNFORTUNATE – KALABA

….says President Hichilema has continued using the Public Order Act to suppress Opponents

Lusaka, Tuesday, February 7, 2023 ( Smart Eagles)

President Hakainde Hichilema has continued to use the Public Order Act to Suppress his opponents, Citizens First (CF) Leader Harry Kalaba has said.

Mr Kalaba said this in reaction to yesterday’s arrest of DR Chishimba Kambwili on the offence of Unlawful Assembly.

This is in connection with a gathering that took place at his own Residence when some youths visited him.

But Mr Kalaba said the arrest of Dr Kambwili was unfortunate, more especially that he was arrested for merely welcoming people at his residence.

“The term public means you are doing something out of your private space meaning you cannot inconvenience other people,” he said.

Mr Kalaba who is also former Minister of Home Affairs has invited the international community to reflect on what is happening in Zambia.

The Citizens First Leader said President Hichilema is on a mission to intimidate and oppress his colleagues in the opposition.

He has however stated that no form of intimidation will stop the Opposition from bringing to light issues that need to be addressed.

Mr Kalaba has since urged the Zambia Police to be professional and begin to advise the President on what is right and wrong.

He was speaking when he featured on Hot FM’s Hot Seat Programme.

And Mr Kalaba said Zambia must do away with oppressive laws like the Public Order Act unlike making Cosmetic Adjustments.

“The adjustments being made in the Public Order Act which would come inform of Public Gathering act are cosmetic. We need to get rid of oppressive laws like the public order act.

“They have changed the name then what next. What we are calling for is a complete obliteration of the public order act. It is within your powers President Hichilema, tell your members of Parliament,” he said.

HH’S GOVERNMENT’S DISLIKE FOR ACCOUNTABILITY, LOVE FOR MISLEADING PUBLIC CAUSES A GO AT AUDITOR GENERAL

HH’S GOVERNMENT’S DISLIKE FOR ACCOUNTABILITY, LOVE FOR MISLEADING PUBLIC CAUSES A GO AT AUDITOR GENERAL.

——————————————————
By Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya

The Auditor General is under severe attack. This is in order for UPND Government to circumvent accountability going forward. UPND wants to project and perpetuate lies (ubufi, boza) about their standard of governance.

UPNDs desperation is now going way over the roof. And they are clear about how much pressure is about to mount; not because of anything but their overly poor governance.

Unfortunately, this desperation will lead to casualties. To start this unwarranted attack on the Auditor General, THEY HAVE REMOVED two deputies to the Auditor General. These casualties being Clara Mazimba and Francis Mbewe.

Anyone who knows anything about these two people will tell you that these are professionals who do not deserve to be treated in the manner they have been treated.

Dr. DICK SICHEMBE (Auditor General) – YOU ARE NEXT! You are going. You will be fired.

Let me now tell you why you are NEXT:

Time to audit the performance of UPND’S maladministration is at hand. UPND is desperate to show a good audit opinion to the public. As you know UPND is in an inseparable love affair with lies. They are liars. As such they want to cheat even through audit opinions. And your professionalism is a threat to this unethical ambition of theirs. To cure this hindrance, I am afraid Dick; YOU’RE GOING. I am sorry though.

Dick, your situation reminds me of the unfairly dismissed DPP. You will soon be a casualty of professionalism. And by all means, you are an easier victim of failure, fear and deepening national division.

I can assure you that the people who will replace those position for your now former two deputies including yours will not have the capabilities you and your deputies possessed, instead their only consideration will be user friendliness.

Those will be people with capacity to produce favorable audit opinions for government in the face of glaring illegalities in fertilizer procurements, private audit service procurements, drug procurements and now consultancy services in the mining sector being awarded to related pension fund management firms.

The country is in deep trouble – this government knows more than we do. Consequently they need to cover the illumination of these trouble having a compromised Auditor General with capacity to offer unrepresentative audit opinions as long as they cast government in good light, and unfortunately professionals like you and me don’t offer such favors. This is your only shortcoming when it comes to this government.

THE WORST for you is not just losing your job. I am not a prophet but I can assure you that for this government to justify your dismissal, they will take you to investigative agencies. Soon you will be a client of ACC, DEC & police. Do not be unsettled, remain professional. All these maneuvers will be aimed at staining your professionalism to justify you removal.

Just go like SIYUNI did, posterity will judge you right.

I am a sad man today.

Restoring EVERYTHING PATRIOTIC.

Mother and son resist paying for high mileage girl

A MOTHER of Lusaka with the support of her fornicating engaged in a vicious verbal battle in the Lusaka Boma Court as they resisted demands that they pay K15,000 as ‘damage’ for a girl he impregnated.

With her chitenge wrapped tight, mother spewed litres upon litres of saliva swearing before the court that her son, Beniden Muyumba, contrary to tradition, would not pay a single coin for impregnating Mary Kaunda because her son had informed her that the victim was nor Virgin Mary when he met her.

Energised by his mom, Muyumba, despite accepting that he was the one who recklessly spilled some teaspoons of human maheu into Mary, joined his mom in refusing to pay ‘damage’ arguing that she was already a damaged good when he met her and she confessed that she had multiple prolonged sexual encounters with her ex-boyfriend.

As if that was not enough, Muyumba also sought to wiggle himself out of the bill by turning into a self-appointed expert in Tonga culture claiming that, as per their culture, any talks of payments should be after Mary delivers.

Noting that the culture argument may not work, the fornicating and impregnating Muyumba threw in a religious argument claiming he was a firm believer in Seventh Day Adventist prophets such as Ellen G. White, and could he not marry Mary as he had assured another woman in the church of marriage.

Shocked by the son and mother arguments, mother to the 22-year old pregnant girl narrated that Muyumba’s mother was an IG, not of the Zambia Police but as an Insultant General who chased pregnant Mary from her son’s home calling her “Mwembwamwe….u want to become unjustly rich”.

Having heard all parties, Magistrate George Kaoma cast his judgement and said,

“When you were undressing in preparation for the ‘missionary’ style you were not fully aware that you don’t work? You thought you were just urinating? You can’t say you are unemployed after impregnating someone. I order that you compensate your girlfriend’s mother K15,000 in monthly instalments of K1000 effective March 3.”

TEACHER, BANKER FIGHT OVER SEX WORKER

0

Kafue teacher, banker fight over prostitute

A TEACHER of Kafue over the weekend pitted himself against a banker in a vicious exchange of fists and knuckles over a prostitute they both wanted.

After having one too many at a local joint known as The Top Pub, the teacher decided to end the evening by enjoying the flesh of a local thigh vendor but all hell broke loose when his departure was stopped by the banker who was also eyeing the same woman.

According to Kafue Times, the men who are both said to be married decided to settle the dispute via a boxing bout that brought all dancing, drinking and chit chats about underperforming Chelsea to an abrupt end.

In the moment, the teacher who should have been drawing up lesson plans for school learners was throwing punches at the banker who also should have been in a bank monitoring the now volatile exchange rate.

As the two drunk professionals threw jabs, hooks and uppercuts at each other, fellow patrons could not believe seeing how sweat was flowing, like the Kafue river, on the bodies of the two adults, who are even holders of Grade 12 certificates.

As the Vladimir Putin versus Volodymir Zelensky Kafue edition war was on, the sex-worker was on standby, waiting to go and subject the winner of the contest to some Nakambala sugar punishment.

Maybe out of care or just for disturbing their fish-like drinking, patrons stood and started playing the United Nations (UN) peace-keeping role in the lightweight contest.

Their mitigation paid off as the fight was stopped.

But there was no one to officially announce the winner of the bout.

However, everyone with common sense quickly realised that the teacher was the champion, since he is the one who was seen whisking away the prize, the lady, in his Toyota Allion.

Since the poor teacher had already lost quite a good number of joules of energy and maybe a full bottle of Vatra, via sweating, it is unlikely that he went on to win the bed fight “with our sister.”

Indeed, like Mae West says, sex is emotion in motion, and this is what happened in Kafue; there were high emotions and in the end, punches of a teacher and a banker were set into motion.

Meanwhile, some people talked to expressed sadness that married men could be fighting over a sex-worker.

But another one said that everything on earth is fought for, including sex-workers.

HICHILEMA USING THE PUBLIC ORDER ACT TO OPPRESS AND SUPPRESS THE OPPOSITION IN ZAMBIA, SAYS HARRY KALABA

0

HICHILEMA USING THE PUBLIC ORDER ACT TO OPPRESS AND SUPPRESS THE OPPOSITION IN ZAMBIA, SAYS HARRY KALABA

By New Dawn Reporter
THE Public Order Act is the law that has been used to oppress and suppress those in the opposition, Harry Kalaba, the Citizens First president Harry Kalaba has charged.

Kalaba has reminded President Hichilema about how bad the Public Order Act (POA) is as it infringes on the rights of the people.

He says President Hichilema should have been the best student to have graduated from the law which was used against him several times and Zambians spoke against the abuse of the law, which he is now taking advantage of and abusing it.

“What is the public order act, that is why today nobody has been convicted on that law, I stand to be corrected. It is the law that has been used to suppress and oppress us in the opposition. It is a bad law and President Hakainde himself had condemned it extensively and he promised Zambians many lies like before he become President, he promised Zambians that he will do away with the Public Order Act when he becomes President. He promised Zambians that the first thing he was going to do is to do away with the Public Order Act. Because he said we were independent people so why should we have the Public Order Act?

There he goes, he has continued to use the Public Order Act to suppress his political opponents. They used it on me, remember in Kalulushi. In Kalulushi I was detained for going for lunch at a senior member’s residence and the police came and threatened us with teargas. I had to go to the police and I was detained.

Tomorrow Hope I will come to visit you at your home and they will say that you invited Kalaba and you have broken the law and you are going to be in trouble. Is that the way we are going to live in our country? And I want to invite the international community to reflect on how we are suffering in our country, the international community need to know that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema our President with due respect is not what he says he is,” he said.

Kalaba said Zambians are now disappointed that the person they thought would respect the rule of law is now enjoying abusing the very law he condemned when he was in the opposition.

He said President Hichilema should remember how he cried to the international community whenever the former regime applied the Public Order Act in the manner that seemed to work for them then.

“The public order act is an oppressive law, meant to deter people from expressing their democratic right and sadly the person we thought he would fight for us, the person we thought he was going to stand for us is now the person who has gone perpetrating injustices like that. President Hichilema promised to do away with the Public Order Act, but now what is he waiting for? It is important for the people out there to know that this man is meant, he is out there to intimidate and oppress his colleagues in the opposition.

We have been saying this, we have been appealing to the international community because that is where Mr. Hakainde Hichilema kept crying to every time, they scratched him. We are saying, look at this, the President has continued to perpetrate things he was complaining about oppression of the opposition political parties. If is even difficult to obtain a permit to even meet as opposition political parties, we had applied in a place like Kalulushi but we were denied last week.

In Mwansabombwe it was the same when we wanted to mobilize our party structures, even when we wanted to have meetings in Mandevu and Munali, these things have continued. But when you listen to speeches from our colleagues, I head from one of the diplomatic corps in this country praising that things have changed … is this what we should be talking about instead of talking about the high cost of mealie meal, instead of talking about high levels of unemployment, the President should concern himself with casketing down on his fruitless and worthless foreign trips he is making as opposed to doing what he is doing,” he said.

Kalaba said even the changes they want to make now were just cosmetic, as the only change they have made was the change of the name.

He said all what the people want was the complete removal of the public order act from the statutes.

FINDLAY NEEDS AN URGENT HEART OPERATION – LAWYERS

FINDLAY NEEDS AN URGENT HEART OPERATION – LAWYERS
By New Dawn Reporter
THE Lusaka magistrate Court has heard that prominent businessman, Harry Findlay needs urgent medical attention abroad as he suffers from a serious heart condition.

This came to light today, when Findlay through his lawyers, applied that his passport be given back to him for purposes to seek medical attention abroad.

His lawyers led by Milner Katolo, Jonas Zimba of Makebi Zulu Advocates and Charles Changano informed Magistrate Sylvia Munyinya that Findlay has a heart complication which has resulted into blocked arteries and needs urgent medical attention.

However, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) objected to the application for the passport to be realised, saying the property Findlay was asking the court to order the State to release to him was part of the evidence in the matter he is appearing before court.
Lawyer, Katolo informed the court that Findlay has been unwell and currently was on bed rest for four days, adding that even the Ministry of Health has recommended that he seeks medical attention over his heart condition which is a life-threatening condition.

“… application to release passport number ZP032178 to the accused for purposes of helping him move to attend medical treatment in Hospital outside Zambia, as the Court will note that the accused is unwell, currently placed on a four-day bed rest but still came to court because of the respect and regard he has. The documents I have laid before the court show among others a letter from the ministry of health confirming that the witness or the accused has a serious heart condition. There is also a document from Medland hospital which clearly states that our client needs to do an angiogram to restore circulation of blood in his heart. Your honour, in-terms of provisions of article 18, the accused is entitled to adequate facilities to enable him prepare his defence, I wish to submit that those adequate facilities include being physically fit and follow the proceedings and appreciate fully the nature of the proceedings,” Katolo said.
He further, stated that during the course of the proceeding today, Findlay developed pain and had informed him about the need to step down because of the pain he was experiencing.

Katolo said it was also clear that the court wouldn’t want to proceed with a person who is unwell.
“…even as we were sitting this morning your honour, he passed a note to me to beseech the court to halt the proceedings because he was feeling so unwell. We have no aorta of doubting our minds that this Honourable court would want to try a person who is physically unwell. We beseech you to order that even if this is on a temporal basis the passport to allow the accused access urgent medical services required to restore his heart condition,” Katolo pleaded.

Zimba, another lawyer from Makebi Zulu Advocate, informed the court that Findlay needs to undergo a heart operation abroad as the condition had become serious.

“…the accused person before you need to undergo a procedure otherwise an operation. Atherosclerotic, this is a block in the artery …which is an attack in those circumstances. These are urgent conditions to be prevented, in any slight delay, maybe catastrophic as regards to these proceedings,” he said.

He further, informed court that Findlay was not a flight risk as he had respected the court from the time he was apprehended by the authority.

“The court will also notice that from the first day of these proceedings the accused person has been present in court on bond and therefore he is not a flight risk. It is our prayer at this court exercise its on the accused,” he said.

However, the prosecution objected to the application saying the passport was one of the main evidence in the matter.
Magistrate Munyinya has since set Tuesday next week to rule on whether to grant the application by Findlay or not.

FIMBA UPOKES RUINING LEADERS…responsible for state of our country, decisions leaders make – Katolo

FIMBA UPOKES RUINING LEADERS…responsible for state of our country, decisions leaders make – Katolo

By Kombe Chimpinde Mataka

IT’S our vuvuzela supporters and the ‘fimba upokes’ that are destroying leaders, says Zambia Must Prosper vice-president Milner Katolo.

In an interview, Katolo yearned for a time when politicians would throw away the political divide and “even sit to agree and disagree on national matters”.

“I yearn for a time when as politicians we can throw away this political divide and even sit and talk to each other and advise for the sake of the country.

It is our vuvuzela supporters, the ‘fimba upoke (choke with envy)’, that are destroying leaders. As a leader, I can make wrong decisions knowing that I have got my praise singers, they will protect me whether wrong or what.

I read on some fora people are saying ‘whether we have power blackouts for 18 hours we don’t care as long as PF is gone’,” Katolo said. “So how do you have a right thinking person saying things like that? When he gets to his home, he will be crying for electricity but in public, he wants to say something else.”

Katolo said politicians would be cautions in making decisions if they are held accountable by even those that seemingly support them.

“The leaders will continue to be careless, selfish, because they know we have got our people backing us.

The people running barbershops, restaurants, are hit the most but we will have the vuvuzelas, the fimba upokes singing and supporting such decisions. You are ruining your leaders. When it is time to criticise, criticise. It does not matter whether you are a member of that particular party or not.

This is the only way in which you will make leaders accountable and make leaders measure decisions they make on behalf of the country,” he said. “But the moment they know whether it is my supporters or not when I do something wrong they will rise up, they will tear me apart, leaders will be careful about the decisions they make.

That is what destroyed PF. They had these cadres who were just doing anything.”

Katolo said if supporters start holding leaders accountable, caderism would be contained.

“If people start thinking like that even this caderism will just fizzle out. People will be supporting objectively. A good thing, people will all stand and say ‘yes this is a good thing’.

A bad thing everyone will stand and condemn. Leaders will now be careful about what they do,” said Katolo. “As vice-president of Zambia Must Prosper, I would like to say that as Zambians we are largely responsible for the state in which our country is and for the decisions that our leaders make.

Because our leaders know they have supporters within their party who are praise singers, they are very careless about the decisions they make.

They don’t weigh and value the decisions and the impact that these decisions will have on the citizenry.”

ASPIRING PF PRESIDENT LIES ABOUT PRESIDENT HICHILEMA APPOINTING RELATIVES … DOESN’T JUST WANT TO SEE TONGA APPOINTMENTS
By Shalala Oliver Sepiso

How one PF leader takes himself seriously to a point where he has wasted K200,000 nomination fees to stand as PF presidential candidate beats me. If you want to be a president, you have to adopt seriousness and things you say should have verisimilitude or at least some modicum of truth. However, the man has perfected the art of lying and he does it without butting an eye. He does it with gusto, licking his lips and while smiling carelessly from ear to ear. The problem is not him but the people who take what he says and writes seriously.

Yesterday, through the page that he manages as an admin named “Patriotic Front” our lying friend wrote: “President Hakainde Hichilema has appointed former Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Director General, Perry Mapani as new IDC CEO to replace Mateyo C. Kaluba. … Like Victor Mapani, Perry is a relation to President Hakainde Hichilema. … The position like that of his brother at ZESCO, was not subjected to competition or public advertisement.”

The issue here is our man first looked at the names Perry Mapani and Victor Mapani and concluded that the two are related. It’s like me saying that Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, UNIP stalwart Sylvester Mwamba Chisembele from Mansa, the late sports administrator Mwamba Kalenga, late boxing coach Anthony Mwamba and Emmanuel Mwamba of the opposition PF are all related simply because of their names. Perry Mapani and Victor Mapani are not related. Secondly he said that Perry Mapani, like Victor, are both related to President Hakainde Hichilema. The truth is that Perry is not related to President Hichilema and our lying man is free to shame me by unleashing whatever data he has. Perry Mapani is an Easterner. Perry Mapani is not from Southern Province. Maybe Bally is an Easterner after all. Maybe that is why imwe Ba PF stopped him from leaving Chipata Airport and entering Chipata with pomp and splendor ahead of the 2021 elections. The name Mapani is a bastardisation of the English word “pans” from cooking utensils and can be Tonga, Lozi, Chewa or even Bemba. But our brother assumed things and only saw Tonga as the possibility. Perry is a Mapani from Eastern. Its like the name Mwenda. We have Mwendas from Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern. Same as Miyanda. General Godfrey Miyanda is from Eastern, late Sports Minister Samuel Miyanda was from Lusaka Province while female entrepreneur Miyanda Katiwa should be from Southern Province.

As for the appointment of Perry Mapani, what the PF won’t tell you is that Mr. Perry Mapani was appointed as the Director General of the Zambia Development Agency effective 15th January 2018. This was under Edgar Lungu. They found him to be brilliant then but don’t want the UPND to also use his brilliance. Mapani worked in a large national investment entities like ZCCM Investment Holdings Plc as Chief Financial Officer and he was Country Manager of Afgri Zambia Limited. Perry holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Hons) in Accounting and Finance as well as an MBA. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation as well as being a fellow with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Perry went to Munali Secondary School and those who grew up with him know he lived in Rhodespark on Joseph Mwilwa Road not the Dundumwezi our friend is imagining.

Basically what our lying friend was trying to say is that Perry Mapani, Victor Mapani and President HH are Tongas and are related by tribe. This is because he doesn’t have proof of any other relation. Our lying friend is just not happy to see Tonga appointments. He is usually diplomatic in his language as so will only say it subtly that the two Mapanis are related to HH knowing what tribe HH is. Last week I wrote an article about how Tongas are an endangered species in Zambian politics and how they are damned if appointed and damned if not appointed. I also argued that it is funny and tragic at the same time to have Tongas who were marginalised in the last government of Edgar Chagwa Lungu, to be advocated for discrimination under the UPND government. So which government will be ok to appoint them?

So our man listen, President Hakainde Hichilema is not related to Victor Benjamin Mapani either. Your malice is intended to suggest that Hakainde Hichilema is nepotistic. But in this case you have lied. You can’t hide lies. Neither can you hide truth. The Germans have a proverb: “Lies have short legs.” When life becomes a maze of either people-pleasing or self-pleasing, the legs needed to carry that load are always too short. Lies beget lies, and soon the story becomes so absurd that the child or adult trying to get away with it is trapped.
To my brother, our lying friend, let me tell you that sincerity is an important skill. Sometimes it might be hard to tell Zambian voters the truth but you need to know that Zambian voters appreciate your sincerity whenever you rarely put it across. There is nothing better than telling the truth, especially once you realize that just like a lie, the truth always comes out, too. Even if you hide it behind a mountain, a truth will still be seen. It is just too large to hide.

ABOUT THE LATE EMMANUEL MULEMENA

ABOUT THE LATE EMMANUEL MULEMENA

Emmanuel Mulemena was born in Kasempa District in 1937. His father, Mr. Essa Masiposa Mulemena, was a trained and qualified teacher who taught at Mukinge Mission School, and he was one of only five qualified teachers in Kasempa District at that time.

Emmanuel loved music from childhood, singing in the church choir. After finishing school, he as well became a teacher and taught at Kikoka Mabwe primary school in Kasempa.

As a teacher, he actively taught his pupils music in the 1950s. However, his love for traditional music was met with opposition from the colonial government and the London Mission (formerly SAGM, now Evangelical Church) who fiercely suppressed traditional music and folklore, because, according to them, it promoted Spiritism.

A former pupil of his once reported that Emmanuel would take the young children of his class into the hills to practice music away from the eyes of Church opposition.

In the early 1960s (c. 1963), Emmanuel left Kasempa and moved to Lusaka to join then Northern Rhodesia Broadcasting Services (now ZNBC), where he met the late musical legend Alick Nkhata.

There, he became a presenter and producer on the Kaonde Service. During this time, thanks to the positive influence of Alick Nkhata, Mulemena took his music to another level.

In 1968, Mulemena left broadcasting and joined Malachite Film Studios (then run by the Anglo-American Corporation) in Chingola. During the years that followed, Mulemena became a pioneer in music, mastering the skill of singing in many languages and becoming one of the first African musicians to use a drum machine.

He founded the band called Mulemena and the Sound Inspectors, with which he transformed traditional music into modern hits, with a western touch. He also popularized Kaonde Manchancha and Shonongo dance music in Zambia.

Sadly, at the height of his career, Emmanuel Mulemena died, in February 1982, leaving behind a legacy of musical hits that have since been redone over and over again by newer singers. His band changed their name to ‘Mulemena Boys’ in honour of their founder, and in that name, they redid many of Mulemena’s songs, making them hits of the mid-80s.

In time, another group of singers performed under the name Junior Mulemena Boys.

Emmanuel’s son John Mulemena became the next Kaonde musical sensation, redoing some of his father’s hits, and recording many new ones.

Mulemena was one of the few Zambian musicians who sang in three languages – Kaonde, Bemba and Nyanja.

TURKISH BASED ZAMBIAN PLAYERS SAFE

Following an earthquake that hit the Kahramanmaras Province in Southern Turkey and Northern Syria, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its members and stakeholders that all the players plying their trade in that country are safe.

FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala says that his office has been in touch with the players and relevant government officials in Turkey to appreciate the situation on the ground.

A rescue operation is continuing across much of Southern Turkey and Northern Syria after two huge earthquakes killed more than 4,300 people.

Zambia has four women national team players plying their trade in the Turkish topflight.
The quartet comprises Hazel Nali, Margaret Belemu, Prisca Chilufya and Misozi Zulu.

Additionally, defender Martha Tembo and midfielders Hellen Chanda and Ireen Lungu who play in Kazakhstan are also in Turkey for pre-season with WFC BIIK-Shymkent.

“Our thoughts are with the Turkish people and Syria following the tragic earthquake that hit that region. Our immediate reaction was to check with our players in that country and we have been able to establish that they are all safe,” says Kashala.

“They are mostly dotted around Istanbul and are away from the affected area.”

Goalkeeper Hazel Nali is on the books of Fatih Vatan Spor based in Istanbul, while Margaret Belemu and Misozi Zulu play for Hakkrigucu Spor in Hakkari with Prisca Chilufya based in Istanbul where she plays for Fatih Karagumruk.

Kashala says it is too early to tell whether the Turkish Cup pencilled for February 13-22 will take off in light of the tragedy.

“We await communication of the final decision on the Turkish Women’s Cup from the organizers and the Turkish FA. For now, the priority is the safety of our players and we will keep our fingers crossed as events unfold.”

SNAKE IN KAMBWILI’S POLICE CELL SHOCKS MUNDUBILE

Lusaka, February 7, 2023-

Leader of the Opposition, Hon. BRIAN MUNDUBILE has urged President Hakainde Hichilema to henceforth direct the police stop human rights violations against Opposition leaders.

In the wake of the detention of opposition PF presidential candidate, Chishismba Kambwili following a high-handed early raid morning raid on his residence, Mr MUNDUBILE says the pattern has emerged where police are now being used as instruments of political persecution.

“The placement of a poisonous snake in a small cell where Mr Kambwili is being detained is a flagrant violation of his rights to be treated in a humane way as a suspect. This is torture and inhumane treatment which must stop henceforth.”

“We can only conclude that those who put him in the cell are the ones who earlier placed the snake there. This is designed to traumatise CK, subject him to fear, and possibly deprive him of sleep which is a form of torture prohibited under international law,” MUNDUBILE said.

It common practice that a suspect must be summoned to the nearest police station where the crime is alleged to have occurred, but a pattern has emerged where police are detaining people as far away as possible from where they live.

This practice was common in era of the one party dictatorship and we thought it was a distant sad memory but it appears a deliberate modus operandi of the UPND.

Only last week, opposition leader Chilufya Tayali was whisked away into Lusaka West and detained for days over a bondable offence.

“Again, it appears the president has forgotten his own speeches, 17 short months after assuming power. He said police won’t arrest before investigating and that bond and bail will be available in cases that are bondable. But the opposite is the order of the day.”

The Leader of the Opposition, who is also a lawyer, says at a time of grave economic challenges afflicting the majority of our people, he felt the UPND would invest more time to arrest the high prices of mealie meal, petrol and ensure stable electricity supply households and firms.

“Stop the torture of Kambwili and release him immediately. We also urge the Human Rights Commission to take note of the deteriorating human rights situation in the country, ” MUNDUBILE said.

BALLY IS A POTENTIAL DICTATOR – LUSAMBO

…as he pleads with the EU to condemn UPND’s oppression of perceived political opponents

Lusaka, Tuesday, February 7, 2023 ( Smart Eagles)

As opposition political players continue with their lamentations against the conduct of the UPND government, former Lusaka Province Minister Hon. Bowman Chilosha Lusambo has told the #EuropeanUnion (EU) that President Hakainde Hichilema’s led administration is orchestrating a systematic crackdown of political freedoms.

This comes amid a heavy debate emanating from the arrest of PF presidential hopeful Dr. Chishimba Kambwili who is detained on an offense of unlawful assembly.

The arrest of Dr Kambwili has made many wonder why the New Dawn Administration is intolerant to divergent views.

And in his letter today, Hon Lusambo told the European Union Ambassador to Zambia Jacek Jankowski that the Head of State has worked hard to clamp down on his perceived political rivals.

He added that the President has been limiting politicians’ freedoms to mobilise and free expression.

The former Kabushi lawmaker told the Ambassador that he has been a victim of the rampant abuse of political freedoms on a number of occasions when he served as an MP as police stopped him from having indoor meetings with elected Councillors.

He also indicated that many opposition leaders have been harassed, arrested, tortured and detained for unlawfully long periods in police stations located far away from their families at the instruction of President Hichilema and those close to his office.

Hon Lusambo said the arrest of Dr Kambwili for alleged unlawful assembly for simply addressing a handful of youths who visited his home is the latest in a series of abuses that opposition leaders have faced at the hands of President Hichilema.

“Your Excellency, this administration has done a remarkable job in portraying to the international community that it is a supporter of democracy,” he said.

“During his address to the European Parliament in June last year, President Hichilema reiterated his administration’s commitment to put people’s interests, reforms, free media, the rule of law and democratic growth on the top of his political agenda. To the contrary, his administration is becoming increasingly intolerant, autocratic and speedily closing up space for political freedoms.”

Hon Lusambo warned that President Hichilema has all the ingredients to transform into a full blown dictator if left unchecked.

He charged that the Head of State is capable of taking away all the democratic gains Zambia has recorded since 1991 when the nation adopted a full multi party participatory democracy system of governance.

Hon Lusambo however demanded that the European Commission in Zambia publicly condemns the abuse of political freedoms taking place in the country.

“We also demand that the EU office in Zambia take steps to reprimand President Hichilema’s administration for its intolerance and failure to observe and respect human rights of opposition political leaders,” he said.

“Your Excellency, the Zambian people are expectant that your office will respond to our demands and help restore our democracy as you have always done since 1975 when the EU Delegation first opened its office in Zambia. Yours in defence of human rights and freedoms.”

DR KAMBWILI’S ARREST IS NONSENSICAL……release him and drop all the charges immediately FUMES HON CHILANGWA

DR KAMBWILI’S ARREST IS NONSENSICAL, FUMES HON CHILANGWA

…release him and drop all the charges immediately, he demands

Lusaka… Tuesday, February 7, 2023 (Smart Eagles)

The opposition Patriotic Front has fumed at the UPND government over the arrest and detention of their party presidential hopeful, Dr Chishimba Kambwili.

Addressing the media after visiting the detained senior party member, PF Acting Secretary General Nickson Chilangwa said instead of unleashing arrests on political opponents, UPND should focus on finding ways to alleviate people’s sufferings.

Hon Chilangwa called on President Hakainde Hichilema to release Dr Kambwili and drop all the charges against him as he tipped the Head of State that citizens want better lives.

“It is totally unacceptable that the UPND government has elected to be doing this. My appeal to the UPND government is stop this, stop this nonsense. It’s not even acceptable, why are you doing this? You have got issues that you must be dealing with. You have got floods across the country, we’ve got food shortages across the country, the cost of living is going up by the day. The exchange rate is running away, the issue of fertilizer has not died, the issue of medicines in hospital has also not died, there are so many issues that we must be focusing on as a country,” he said.

“And on your own you don’t have the capacity to do it. You need every Zambian to participate in this particular discourse. I therefore call on President Hakainde Hichilema, is this what you want? Is this why you got the mandate from the Zambian people? To be doing that? Zambians want better lives and our responsibility as leaders of the opposition is to remind you on the promises you made to the Zambian people. Not to be arresting people left right and center.”

He said the President should just focus on providing leadership in the country and also allow the opposition leaders to provide checks and balances freely.

Meanwhile, PF National Chairperson for Information and Publicity Hon Raphael Nakacinda called on party members to unite and show solidarity to Dr Kambwili.

“We know that there has been an interest by individuals including Hon Kambwili to aspire for the position of president as indicated…But we shouldn’t politicize everything. When one of us is in a situation, we must drop whatever interests and stand in solidarity with one another,” he said.

“Some of the sentiments that have been coming from members of the Patriotic Front on blogs and other places are not necessary. Let us not allow the UPND to use us to whatever level to advance a narrative that we will only bring disunity in the party. Let’s all work towards unity and one of the ways to show unity is when one of us is going through situations.”

All you need to know about the Nigerian billionaire set to take over English Championship club Sheffield United

0

Dozy Mmobuosi is a Nigerian entrepreneur with a projected net worth of $7 billion. He is the owner of Tingo Mobile PLC and Tingo International Holdings, which accounts largely for his net worth. He also runs the Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation with a mission to promote the progress of Africa and create an environment where Africans can thrive.

Tingo Mobile’s digital agri-marketplace platform, Nwassa, provides farmers in Nigeria and beyond with weather forecasts, in addition to information on markets and digital payment options via Tingo Pay. His first tech venture was ‘Flashmecash,’ Nigeria’s first SMS banking solution. He later sold it for a good profit.

Aside from being a tech entrepreneur, Mmobuosi is also a football investor. He has “funded scouting schemes, training programmes and talent management for Porsche United and Nassarawa United, two formidable grassroots clubs in Nigeria,” according to GQ.co.za. His foundation funded the 2022 inaugural ‘Super Cup Tournament’ for clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), which saw Shooting Stars of Ibadan emerge as winners.

He is also set to become the new owner of the British football side Sheffield United for a reported fee of around $108 million. The Times reports that he is in the final stages of buying the Bramall Lane club subject to meeting key conditions.

The owner of the Championship club, according to the BBC, is in talks with the Nigerian billionaire after American businessman Henry Mauriss failed in a bid to take over the Yorkshire club.

Should he pass the English Football League’s owners’ and directors’ test, he will assume ownership of the club and help lift the recent transfer embargo by settling the club’s debts, according to the BBC. The team is currently under a transfer embargo as a result of defaulting on transfer payments owned by another club.

He would also be the sixth African to own a club in Britain. They are Egyptian Nassif Sawiris, co-owner of Premier League side Aston Villa, Moroccan businessman Abdallah Lemsaga, owner of Oldham Athletic and South Africa-born Garry Otto, who is the co-owner of English fourth-tier club Sutton United.

The remaining include the late Egypt-born Assem Allam, who bought Hull City in 2010 and Egyptian Mohamed Al-Faye who acquired Fulham for a reported $40m in 1997.

Also, should the deal go through, Mmobuosi will become the richest club owner in the Championship, according to GiveMeSports.

The Story is not only Propaganda but is Childish and malicious purposefully intended to mislead the membership and general population coined by one Simon Mwewa in his Dirty Laboratory of evil to drag the Acting Party President and Acting Secretary General in the dirty.

The Story is the work of a poor propagandist who is far from succeeding because the video is an edited and cut script from the statement made by Hon. Nakachinda

Hon. Nakachinda said The story that the money meant for the party’s Extra-Ordinary General convention is missing at the Party SECRETARIAT is malicious and force.

Now this Bad And poorly brought Childish grown up edited and cut the video and only left ” The Money meant for the party conversion has gone missing at the Secretariat” with an intention to mislead and portray that the money has been stolen.

Five inspiring lessons from the life of Mansa Musa, the wealthiest man in history

0

Mansa Musa was the fourteenth-century king of the West African Mali Empire. He is known for his legendary pilgrimage to Mecca, during which he is said to have brought an enormous amount of wealth to the cities along his route.

Today, Mansa Musa is remembered not only for his wealth, but also for his wisdom and generosity. Here are five inspiring lessons that we can all learn from the life of this great king.

1. Wealth is not the only measure of success. Despite his legendary riches, Mansa Musa is remembered not for the amount of gold that he possessed, but for the wisdom and generosity that he displayed. He used his wealth to benefit the people of his empire and to improve the lives of those around him. This teaches us that true success is not determined by material possessions, but by the good that we do in the world.

2. Education is a powerful tool. Mansa Musa was a devout Muslim, and he placed a strong emphasis on education. He built schools and universities throughout the Mali Empire, and he encouraged the pursuit of knowledge in all fields. This emphasis on education allowed the empire to thrive and made it a center of learning and culture in West Africa.

3. Generosity can inspire others. During his pilgrimage to Mecca, Mansa Musa is said to have distributed so much gold that the value of the metal decreased significantly in the cities that he visited. He also funded the construction of mosques and other important buildings along his route. This generosity not only benefited the people he encountered, but it also inspired others to be more giving and compassionate.

4. Culture and diversity should be celebrated. The Mali Empire was a diverse and multicultural society, and Mansa Musa embraced this diversity. He encouraged trade and exchange between different peoples, which helped to create a rich and vibrant culture. This teaches us the importance of valuing and celebrating the unique perspectives and experiences of others.

5. Leadership is about serving others. As a king, Mansa Musa had great power and influence. But rather than using this power for his own gain, he used it to serve the people of his empire. He worked to improve the lives of his subjects and to create a better future for all. This teaches us that true leadership is about serving others and working for the greater good.
In conclusion, the life of Mansa Musa offers many valuable lessons for us today. He reminds us that wealth is not the only measure of success, that education is a powerful tool, and that generosity can inspire others. He also teaches us the importance of celebrating culture and diversity, and of using our leadership for the benefit of others. These lessons are as relevant today as they were in the fourteenth century, and they remind us of the enduring power of wisdom, compassion, and service

Lack of jobs, the main driver of violent extremism in sub-Saharan Africa: UNDP

0

The report entitled, Journey to Extremism in Africa: Pathways to Recruitment and Disengagement, underscores the importance of economic factors as drivers of recruitment.

Desperation factor
Lack of income, the lack of job opportunities and livelihoods, means that “desperation is essentially pushing people to take up opportunities, with whoever offers that”, said Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator, speaking at the report launch.

He added that around 25 per cent of all recruits cited a lack of job opportunities as the primary reason, while around 40 per cent said they were “in urgent need of livelihoods at the time of the recruitment”.

Sub-Saharan Africa has become the new global epicentre of violent extremism with almost half of global terrorism deaths recorded there in 2021.

The report draws from interviews with nearly 2,200 different people in eight countries: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Nigher, Nigeria, Somalia, and Sudan.

In their own words

More than 1,000 of those interviewees are former members of violent extremist groups, both voluntary and forced recruits.

A quarter of those who volunteered said the main factor was unemployment – a 92 percent increase from the last UNDP study of violent extremism in 2017.

Around 48 per cent of voluntary recruits told researchers that there had been “a triggering event” leading to them signing up.

Abuses driving recruitment too

Of that figure, some “71 per cent cited human rights abuses they had suffered, such as government action”, said Nirina Kiplagat, main author of the report and UNDP’s Regional Peacebuilding Advisor.

Fundamental human rights abuses such as seeing a father arrested, or a brother taken away by national military forces, were among those triggers cited.

According to the report, peer pressure from family members or friends, is cited as the second more common driver for recruitment, including women who are following their spouses into an extremist group.

Religious ideology is the third most common reason for joining up, cited by around 17 percent of interviewees. This presents a 57 percent decrease from the 2017 findings.

Development-based remedies

The new report is part of a series of three, analysing the prevention of violent extremism. It highlights the urgent need to move away from security-driven responses to development-based approaches focused on prevention, said UNDP.

It calls for greater investment in basic services including child welfare, education and calls for an investment in rehabilitation and community-based reintegration services.

Mr. Steiner said a “toxic mix” was being created of poverty, destitution, and lack of opportunity, with so many citing the “urgent need to find livelihoods”. It is tantamount to a society “no longer having a rule of law, turning to some of these violent extremists’ groups to provide security.”

Security-driven counter-terrorism responses are often costly and minimally effective, said the UNDP Administrator, and investments in preventive approaches to violent extremism are inadequate.

Terrorist groups such as ISIS, Boko Haram or Al-Qaeda emerge due to local conditions, but then begin to amass weapons and secure financing – in the case of the Sahel, allowing other cells to resource themselves independently.

No surprises

“The geopolitical dimension should not surprise anyone”, said Mr. Steiner, where States are no longer able to provide the rule of law or meaningful national security, “then the opportunity for other actors to become part of this drama grows exponentially, we have seen it in Mali, we have seen it in Libya, we have seen it at the Horn of Africa”.

Based on the interviews, the report also identified factors that drive recruits to leave armed groups, such as unmet financial expectations, or a lack of trust in the group’s leadership.
