PAKISTAN DELIVERS U.S. PROPOSAL TO IRAN TO RESTART TALKS
Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reportedly delivered a U.S. proposal to Iranian officials during his recent visit to Tehran, according to a senior source cited by Al Arabiya English.
Under the proposal, the United States would lift its blockade and sanctions on Iran in exchange for Tehran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting attacks by Iran-linked proxy groups, the source said.
During his visit, Munir reportedly met Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and a representative of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The meeting was described by the source as “clear and decisive.”
According to the report, Munir urged Iran to end attacks carried out by groups linked to Tehran and called for the resumption of work under the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States in June.
The Pakistani military chief also reportedly told Rezaei that both Washington and Tehran share responsibility for disrupting implementation of their previous agreements.
The reported initiative comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic efforts to help de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions and proxy attacks remaining key obstacles to renewed negotiations.
