Pakistan Rejects Military Deployment to Fight Houthis in Saudi Arabia
Pakistan has rejected reports that it is preparing to deploy military forces to Saudi Arabia to fight the Iran-backed Houthi movement following a series of attacks on Saudi territory
Islamabad said no military response has been discussed under the newly signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, despite the pact stating that an armed attack on one member is to be regarded as an attack on all three.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the country remains committed to the agreement but will take action only through the appropriate mechanisms and at the appropriate time. Islamabad has also urged Iran to use its influence to restrain the Houthis and halt attacks against Saudi Arabia.
The decision keeps Pakistan from becoming directly involved in the escalating Yemen conflict for now, despite growing pressure on the new defense pact as Houthi attacks increasingly threaten Saudi territory and critical energy infrastructure.
Pakistan’s position marks a cautious approach to the crisis, balancing its defense commitments to Saudi Arabia with its efforts to maintain diplomatic channels with Iran.
