Pentagon reclassifies US deaths from Iran war – AP
The Pentagon has reclassified four American service members killed during the recent fighting with Iran, removing them from its official war casualty tally and placing them under a separate category, according to an Associated Press report.
The AP said the Defense Casualty Analysis System, previously cited by military officials as the main record for casualties from the conflict, no longer includes the four dead troops or scores of wounded personnel in its primary count.
Instead, the records now appear under a newly created category labelled “Overseas Operations,” listing the four service members alongside 207 wounded personnel. It remains unclear whether all of the injuries were directly related to the Iran conflict.
Pentagon Press Secretary Joel Valdez said the changes reflected “anomalies” and “temporary data disruptions” that would be addressed “imminently.”
