PETRAEUS: HOW UKRAINE CAN SUSTAIN ITS RESISTANCE AGAINST RUSSIA
Former CIA Director David Petraeus says the war between Russia and Ukraine is increasingly being shaped by the ability of both sides to adapt quickly and develop new military technologies.
In an opinion piece published by The Washington Post, Petraeus argues that Moscow is relying on exhausting Ukraine’s resources and weakening Western support. Kyiv, meanwhile, is seeking to prevent major Russian advances while imposing costs that make sustained offensive operations more difficult.
Petraeus says Ukraine does not need to capture Moscow to achieve its objectives. Instead, he argues that Kyiv needs to demonstrate that Russia cannot make meaningful territorial gains at an acceptable cost, while maintaining sustained military and economic pressure and preserving Western support.
He also calls on Ukraine’s European partners to treat the country’s defense industry as an extension of their own industrial base, with the aim of strengthening Ukraine’s long-term ability to sustain the war.
