Poland Warns Russia Could Stage “Accidental” Drone and Missile Strikes Against NATO
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Russia could launch drone and missile strikes against NATO countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland, while portraying the attacks as accidents to weaken the alliance’s response.
Speaking to parliament on September 17, Tusk said intelligence assessments indicated a real risk of Russian attacks against countries on NATO’s eastern flank. He warned that Moscow could seek to undermine confidence in the alliance’s collective defense commitments under Article 5.
Tusk also highlighted the growing threat posed by Russian jet-powered drones, which fly faster and at higher altitudes, potentially making them more difficult for air defense systems to detect and intercept.
Poland has reported a series of attacks and security incidents near Ukraine’s western border, while Tusk warned that Russia could intensify strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure and logistics in the coming months.
The Polish prime minister is also seeking closer cooperation with Ukraine and other regional partners on air defense and additional sanctions against Russia, as NATO members face growing security concerns along the alliance’s eastern flank.
