POLICE OFFICER TESTIFIES AGAINST KELVIN KAUDA IN LIMA PETITION CASE
A police officer stationed at Matero Police Station and deployed to George Police Post under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lima Constituency has testified in the Lusaka High Court that he received a complaint alleging that NRPUP Lima Constituency Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda assaulted a UPND supporter during a roadshow campaign.
Joseph Chileshe told the court earlier today that he received the complaint from Anthony Mwamba, a UPND supporter, at around 21:00 hours on August 7, 2026.
Mr Chileshe testified that Mwamba had reported being assaulted by Mr Kaunda, who was then a candidate, during a roadshow campaign held in Lima Constituency on the same date.
Meanwhile, Mr Kaunda was picked up by plain-clothes police officers earlier today as he left the Supreme Court following a hearing in the Lima Constituency election petition.
Mr Kaunda was accompanied by his constituency chairman when the officers apprehended him.
He is currently detained at Lusaka Central Police Station, where he is awaiting formal charges in connection with the alleged assault.
The allegations against Mr Kaunda relate to the reported incident during the August 7 campaign roadshow.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
