Police find missing teen on top of boyfriend
THE Lusaka teen who claimed to have been abducted in Chingola has been found by police on top of her boyfriend implementing the “Grow Zambia Agenda”.
On Tuesday, Taonga Mumba caused panic amongst her family members when texted that she and two other girls had been abducted by a strange man while they were coming from church.
According to the Zambia Police Service, Taonga, a resident of the hood known for dubious acts, Matero, left Lusaka for Chingola where her coloured 21 year old boyfriend Joseph Ferguson of Minsenga Compound resides.
When leaving Lusaka on Sunday, Taonga’s mother Phides Nyirenda was of the view that her daughter was going to visit her grandmother in Chingola and blessed her journey.
However, after noticing that the teenager was nowhere to be seen in the border town, Phides got worried and started texting the girl.
The 19 year old then put up a lie, telling the mother that she had been abducted by an unknown man whom she met in Chingola and claimed to know her grandparents.
Worried that her only daughter would be killed, Phides reported the matter to the police and even reached out to Kalemba for assistance.
Alas! After putting their investigative skills to their best, police located Taonga and found her and the boyfriend enjoying the privileges of marriage.
Police public relations officer Chipo Kaitisha said Taonga met the boyfriend on Mark Zuckerberg’s blue app in the month after Zambia voted, September.
“The two subsequently developed a romantic relationship. During their interactions, Taonga informed her boyfriend that she had a grandmother, identified as Dyness Nyirenda, who resides in Chingola. On November 1, 2026, Taonga travelled from Lusaka to Chingola, purportedly to visit her grandmother. However, investigations established that her actual intention was to meet her boyfriend, Joseph Ferguson,” said Kaitisha.
Following their meeting, Taonga allegedly sent a text message to her mother while in the hands of her man, claiming that she had been abducted by unknown male persons.
Today, police put an end to the anxiety and arrested the two for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace as investigations continue.
The Zambia Police Service have since appealed to parents and guardians to take an active role in the upbringing and guidance of their children by maintaining open communication, monitoring their whereabouts and taking a keen interest in their social interactions and relationships, including those developed through social media platforms.
“Parents and guardians are also encouraged to educate their children on the dangers of engaging with strangers online, the importance of making responsible decisions and the need to communicate honestly with family members regarding their movements and activities,” said Kaitisha.
