POLICE INVESTIGATING DEATH FOLLOWING INCIDENT AT BRIAN MUNDUBILE CAMPAIGN RALLY IN MATERO

LUSAKA – Police are investigating the death of a young boy following an incident that occurred during a campaign rally addressed by Tonse Alliance presidential candidate and National Revolutionary Party for Unity and Progress (NRPUP) President Brian Mundubile in Lusaka’s Matero Township.

A senior officer at Matero Police Station said the deceased is believed to be between the ages of nine and 12, but his identity and that of his parents or guardians have not yet been established.

According to police, the incident occurred as a light truck was entering the rally venue, when several children reportedly ran towards the vehicle.

Police said the child was struck by the truck and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The vehicle involved in the incident has since been impounded at Matero Police Station, while the driver has been detained to assist with ongoing investigations.

Police have appealed to families in Matero whose child may be missing to report to the police station to assist in identifying the deceased.

The law enforcement agency has further urged all political parties and campaign organisers to exercise caution when managing crowds and vehicle movements during political events to help prevent similar tragedies.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.

The culture of violence and thuggery that characterized the PF is now manifesting within the Tonse Alliance and NRPUP, as can be seen by the attached past and recent photographs.
