POLICE OFFICER INVESTIGATED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING WIFE RECOVERING FROM BREAST SURGERY

By ZR Reporter

A senior police officer in Choma is under investigation following allegations that he brutally assaulted his wife, who was still recovering from surgery to remove one of her breasts after battling cancer.

Chief Inspector Chrispin Tembo, stationed under the Southern Division, is accused of assaulting his 41-year-old wife, Carol Meema, during a domestic dispute at their home in Kamunza Compound on September 6, 2026.

In a video seen by Zambia Reports, Meema appears with her head heavily bandaged and visible injuries as she recounts her ordeal.

The alleged assault reportedly followed a marital dispute after Tembo accused his wife of infidelity. Neighbours are said to have intervened after the confrontation turned violent.

Meema has alleged that the incident was not an isolated case, claiming she has endured abuse during her 17-year marriage, with the situation allegedly becoming worse in recent months.

Of particular concern is her allegation that she was assaulted while still recovering from a mastectomy. Meema claims her husband struck her in areas affected by the recent surgery, despite her fragile condition.

The incident was later reported to Choma Central Police Station by Meema’s mother, after which she was issued with a medical report and referred to Choma General Hospital for examination and treatment.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo has confirmed that investigations into the allegations have been launched.

In a statement issued on September 8, Namalongo condemned gender-based violence and said the police service would investigate the matter thoroughly and impartially.

“The Zambia Police Service strongly condemns all acts of gender-based violence and assures members of the public that this matter will be thoroughly and impartially investigated in accordance with the law,” Namalongo said.

The case has attracted public attention, particularly because of the seriousness of the allegations and Meema’s reported medical condition at the time of the incident.

Chief Inspector Tembo has not publicly responded to the allegations.

The investigation will now be closely watched, not only by the family involved, but by members of the public who will want to see how the matter is handled.
At the centre of the case is a bigger question: will this investigation demonstrate that, indeed, no one is above the law, or will it once again raise questions about whether some people are considered more equal than others when they find themselves on the wrong side of the law?
