POLICE PROBE KITWE OFFICER OVER ALLEGED K5,000 DISCREDITABLE CONDUCT
The Zambia Police Service has launched investigations into an alleged disciplinary offence of discreditable conduct involving a police officer in Kitwe, contrary to Section 30(1)(d) of the Zambia Police Act, Chapter 107 of the Laws of Zambia.
Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says the Service will not condone conduct that may undermine its image and reputation and will take appropriate action if misconduct is established.
Chilabi said investigations follow a video circulating on social media showing a police officer surrounded by members of the public along Oxford Road in Kitwe Town Centre on September 22, 2026, around 16:00 hours.
He explained that a police officer on motorised patrol found fellow officer Constable Namusokwe being confronted by several members of the public, including mobile money agents, before taking her and the mobile money agent to Kitwe Central Police Station for further inquiries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Constable Namusokwe asked the mobile money agent to deposit K5,000 into the mobile money account of a money lender to whom she owed money, expecting the recipient to lend her more money through mobile money so she could repay the agent.
The recipient did not send her any money, resulting in her failure to immediately repay the mobile money agent, although the K5,000 was later repaid in full.
Chilabi has urged members of the public to report suspected misconduct to the nearest police station or through appropriate reporting channels, saying social media should not be used as a substitute for formally reporting such matters to the police.
