🟪 POWER OUTAGES LINGER NEAR ST. PETERSBURG AFTER SUBSTATION DAMAGE

Residents of Yanino, just outside St. Petersburg in Russia’s Leningrad region, have been dealing with electricity outages following the October 17–18 drone attack and damage to the Vostochnaya substation.

The disruption affected an area housing more than 20,000 people. By the morning of October 19, regional energy officials said all customers had been reconnected—but local reporting continued to carry complaints from residents whose homes remained without power.

Russian Governor Alexander Drozdenko acknowledged damage to wiring inside the substation, while claiming its transformers and main electrical equipment remained operational. Backup supplies were brought in as crews worked to restore connections.

The nearby VKontakte data center also sustained damage, including to transformer equipment, according to the governor. The company said its services remained available.
