PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CALLS FOR TANGIBLE, SPEEDY PROGRESS IN DEBT RESTRUCTURING

Republican President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called for tangible and quick progress in resolving Zambia’s debt restructuring process in order to quickly get the country on a more sound economic standing.
Speaking this morning at State House when he welcomed International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, Ms Kristalina Georgieva, and her team, President Hichilema said the the country’s economic development depends on the country’s debt restructuring process.
“We deliberated on the need for for tangible and speedy progress in resolving our debt restructuring process in order to quickly get the country on a more sound economic standing”.
President Hichilema thanked the IMF for supporting Zambia’s home-grown economic transformation agenda and urged them and other such institutions to do more in ensuring that the programmes have an immediate impact on the Zambian people.
The Head of State expressed happiness with the visit of the IMF Managing Director saying it gives the country renewed hope for heightened collaboration between the New Dawn Government and the IMF. President Hichilema said the visit reaffirms the IMF’s confidence in Zambia’s home-grown reform agenda.
And Ms Georgieva commended the New Dawn Government’s good use of public resources in pivoting towards areas of social growth like education. She affirmed the fund’s commitment to the Zambian people whom she hailed as the country’s best resource.
