PRESIDENT HICHILEMA’S COPPERBELT TOUR HIGHLIGHTS INFRASTRUCTURE, ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT

Press Release
25th August 2025

Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) has observed that President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to the Copperbelt Province reflects the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.

GODAZA Executive Director Elias Chanda Mulenga noted that the President’s tour highlighted progress on key road infrastructure projects, including the Chibuluma concrete road in Kalulushi — the first of its kind since independence.

He emphasised that the project showcases the government’s focus on improving transport networks.

Mulenga pointed out that road construction initiatives, such as the Lusaka–Ndola Dual Carriageway, have generated over 3,000 jobs, boosting employment for local communities.

He added that by prioritising infrastructure, the government aims to stimulate economic activity in the Copperbelt Province — a region vital to national prosperity.

The GODAZA Executive Director said the President’s efforts to unlock opportunities for local suppliers and contractors have earned praise from business groups, signalling a positive impact on the local economy.

Mulenga highlighted the Kafulafuta Water Supply System Project, which will benefit over 17,000 residents in Ndola, Luanshya, Masaiti, and Mpongwe — addressing the essential need for clean and safe water.

He also mentioned plans to enhance agricultural production in the province by leveraging fertile soils and abundant water bodies to strengthen Zambia’s national food basket.

Mulenga said the visit underscored themes of unity, development, and national pride, aligning with the government’s vision for a prosperous Zambia.

He stated that the President’s presence in the Copperbelt reaffirmed the government’s dedication to economic growth, infrastructure improvement, and better living standards for citizens.
