President Trump said he would become “Mr. Veto” if Democrats win control of Congress in Tuesday’s midterms

President Donald Trump says he is prepared to block Democratic legislation if Republicans lose control of the House and Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“Well, if that happens, I guess I’ll become Mr. Veto. I’m not going to let them through,” Trump said in an interview.

The president suggested that repeatedly rejecting Democratic bills could eventually force lawmakers to negotiate with him.

“They’ll be sending stuff up. You veto it, and eventually, after a month or two of getting all vetoed,” Trump said.

Decision Desk HQ’s latest forecasts cited in the reports give Democrats approximately 83%–84% probability of winning the House and 63%–64% probability of taking the Senate.

Meanwhile, Reuters reports that senior White House officials are preparing strategies to advance Trump’s agenda through executive authority and respond to potential congressional investigations.

Trump used his veto power 10 times during his first presidency and twice in December 2025. Congress can override a presidential veto only with a two-thirds majority in both chambers.
