PROF. NAISON NGOMA RETURNS TO CBU

Former Copperbelt University Vice Chancellor Prof. Naison Ngoma has returned to CBU this time as a student of law at the age of 70.

Prof. Ngoma is a Doctor of Philosophy with a Masters in Public Management from the University of the Western Cape and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Zambia.

He served as CBU Vice Chancellor for ten (10) years.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Icengelo, Prof. Ngoma said he has returned to school because learning is a lifelong process designed to assist people to continuously improve their skills.

“I would like to confirm to you that indeed I have returned to school as a student and that I have deliberately chosen to go to the Copperbelt University and study law through the evening programme offered by the CBU,” he said.

“You may wish to ask why back to school at all? Valentine (Mukuka, reporter), learning is a lifelong process designed to assist people re-skill themselves and add other skills in their toolkit in order to address their needs and the needs of their institutions,” Prof. Ngoma said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ngoma has bemoaned the fact that there are only three first year students studying law under the evening programme at CBU at the moment.

“However, I have been taken aback by the low number of students grabbing the opportunity of enhancing their education.  In my first year law class for instance, there are only three of us. Now for a city like Kitwe, the second largest city in the land, this is sad especially when one considers the enormous need for a country to have highly skilled people greatly needed to participate in the improvement of the country in various fields.”

“I would like to encourage the inhabitants of the Copperbelt Province in particular to take advantage of what their local university is providing. Surely, a number of us can spare at least two to three hours ever evening to attend classes. Come on, speak to your friends, and let us do this. It is good for individuals and it is good for the country,” said the retired Lt. Col in the Zambia Air Force.
