Prophet Uebert Angel Explodes from the Pulpit: “Attacks on Chiwenga Are Diabolic and Evil!”

HARARE — Prophet Uebert Angel, a presidential envoy and ambassador-at-large closely aligned with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, used a church service on Sunday to denounce public attacks on Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, calling them a “disgraceful exhibition of political impropriety.”

Speaking from the pulpit at his Spirit Embassy ministry on 1 November 2026, Angel addressed a large congregation and distinguished between legitimate criticism and what he described as contempt.

Video of the remarks later circulated widely on social media.

“The vitriolic attacks against Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga is a disgraceful exhibition of political impropriety and a display of intellectual bankruptcy. It’s disgraceful,” Angel said. “Attacking a leader because you hate him doesn’t give you power.”

He continued: “Criticism is legitimate. You should. You must. People criticise me, they criticise the president, they criticise the vice-president. It’s allowed. But contempt masquerading as criticism is diabolic and evil.”

Angel specifically challenged those who publicly label Chiwenga as dangerous.

“If you say Chiwenga is dangerous, and you come out and oppose him publicly, you are giving us a public review that he is not as dangerous as we thought,” he said. “If I say ‘Angel is dangerous’ and then I come out on TV to say he is dangerous, I’m proving he is not dangerous.”

The preacher urged Zimbabweans not to join in the criticism, including remarks by Chiwenga’s former wife, Marry Mubaiwa, who has given interviews critical of the vice president amid their ongoing legal disputes.

Angel warned against siding with a former spouse in such matters, saying it undermined authority, and advised the public not to “waste your bundles in trying to listen to nonsense.”

He argued that President Mnangagwa’s decision to retain Chiwenga as vice president should command respect.

“If the president sees him fit to still be the vice-president, it must be a sign that I, with my little mouth, or big mouth, should hush,” Angel said.

“Let the vice-president do what he is doing in leading the country, in supporting the leader, the president to lead the country.”

Angel framed his comments as a prophetic warning against chaos, stating the church was “part of the solution” rather than the disorder, and cautioned against a culture in which elders and leaders are freely attacked. He insisted he was not aligning with any political faction, saying: “I don’t do factions. I’m on one faction. The Lord Jesus Christ.”

The remarks come amid reported tensions between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga, including a public confrontation at the recent Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi, and against a backdrop of social media discussion about alleged prophecies concerning the vice president.
