Prophet Uebert Angel Recounts Surviving Near-Fatal Shooting Attempt

HARARE — Zimbabwean prophet and Spirit Embassy founder Uebert Angel has publicly described surviving a terrifying ordeal in which he says he was nearly shot dead, telling congregants that attackers “tried to kill me.”

In footage circulating widely on social media from a recent church service, Angel addressed the congregation while recounting the incident.

Graphics overlaid on the video repeatedly displayed the words “THEY TRIED TO KILL ME” alongside images of the preacher.

The clip, shared by the account Everything Zim TV on Saturday, was captioned: “UEBERT ANGEL REVEALS HOW HE CHEATED DEATH AFTER ALMOST BEING SHOT DEAD!” and alternatively “I WAS ALMOST SHOT DEAD!” Angel is shown speaking into a microphone on a stage amid security personnel and church members.

Separate reports published days earlier alleged multiple recent attacks linked to Angel.

According to Gambakwe Media, the prophet received death threats after a sermon in which he urged people to stop attacking Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

The outlet reported that a vehicle without registration plates attempted to block his motorcade and opened fire; later, around 1:30 a.m. on 6 November, three armed men tried to breach the outer perimeter of his residence but were driven off by his security team.

In a further incident around 2 a.m. in Shawasha, two men emerged from bushes; one fired a shot that missed Angel and struck a water tank. Angel and his security team escaped unharmed, the report stated.

Angel has previously spoken of past attempts on his life. In an earlier sermon, he stated: “They’ve tried with guns and their bullets fell. They tried with four. It did not work.”

No independent official confirmation of the latest alleged incidents or of Angel’s current location was immediately available.

Some online reactions to the circulating video questioned the circumstances, with commenters noting the heavy security presence around him during the service.

Angel, a British-Zimbabwean preacher and former presidential envoy, has long been a polarising figure in Zimbabwean public life.

Police and government authorities have not issued statements on the reported attempts as of Sunday.
